Geoguessr Explained has the same Z8 as Zi8gzag has too... Honestly I don't wanna sound dumb but I'm starting to suspect that they might be done by the same person. I know that sounds crazy but when you look at the evidence it really adds up...
Hey Oscar! The plant at 37:22 is the Persian Silk Tree or Mimosa Tree (Albizia julibrissin). It is native to Asia but very common in the southeastern US, and the botanical term for that type of leaf where it is split twice (and looks feathery) is bipinnate. Fire vid as always!
A video on how to actually practice Geoguessr would be amazingly helpful. It's one see the information and clues, but it would be very helpful to see how to commit them to memory so you can use them in the moment when playing.
Thanks for the US Plonkit Guide Love! Took me a lot of time to put it together and I have MANY more ideas for tips (mainly more vegetation and infrastructure tips to add to it.) There's also a map on the license plate area of the guide with a link to show which states have fronts or not, just so folks know we didn't forget it in the guide!
What would be great would a video or a series of videos for beginners (or not), to tell apart from two or three or more country that be easily mistaken. Example given: is it USA or Canada ? / is it Japan, Taiwan, Korea or Hong Kong ? / is it Norway, Finland, Denmark or Sweden ? / is it Russia or Ukraine ? / Is it Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia / Is it Mexico, Guatemala / Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein / etc. And would be great to illustrate that with live exemple PS: your videos are fantastic, I recommand them to my OSINT students
Another clue to distinguish Canada from the US is spelling: 🇨🇦 Centre 🇺🇸 Center 🇨🇦 Neighbourhood 🇺🇸 Neighborhood 🇨🇦 Harbour 🇺🇸 Harbor However, this isn't 100% dependable. You can sometimes find Canadian spelling in the US (such as "Centre Street" in Boston) and often find US spelling in Canada (especially on private signs)
10:11 the yellow and blue shields are county roads which display the name of the county on them. You have to zoom super far in to scan for the numbers tho so it’s really only helpful if you know counties
24:00 big dead rocky mountains like this are pretty unique to Nevada/western Utah i'd say, in Wyoming they would probably be snowcapped and/or forested. Plus the road texture
Also for the seattle one those PNW cities my vibe is that the sides of roads and undergrowths are usually very pine needley/mulchy/brownish red and combined with the vegetation its recognizable
Regarding the US State Highway Shields (which are quite useful on moving or custom NM challenges), the Plonkit Guide is incomplete. Quite a few states also have a secondary state highway network that use different shapes and that show up just as often in rural areas as the primary shields. In some states, they are very learnable; in others, they have the generic round or square shape.
US is definitely my favorite country to play too. I may be American and biased but it just feels like the perfect combo of infrastructure stuff with plants and vibes, and no silly car or coverage stuff. Thanks for the video!!
I've got a theory that for the US/Canada you get most of the benefit by only learning the original area codes (without any of the splits or overlays), which is only the ones with 1 or 0 as the middle digit. These are the ones that would be most long established for businesses
Great video. Btw, I wouldn't put too much trust in the front plate meta. Here in Ohio, we just changed the law a few years back (2020) so most people -- if they're still driving the same vehicle -- just left their plates on so you still see a lot of front plates here. And I'm sure it's the same in other states as the trend seems to be moving toward getting rid of front plates now. EDIT: Also, I just remembered that a lot of people in the US will buy decorative front plates that might just display the name of their favorite sports team, so that can definitely throw you off as well.
These videos are great! I've been practicing Africa recently and I can't seem to region guess rural South Africa. I've gotten decent at distinctive places in Africa like western Bots and south western ZA but I'm having a rough time with other areas.
Hey zi8zag can you talk about potential 50/50s in each country as part of this series? Like which regions of USA are potentially 50/50 with Canada or Mexico and tips to determine which is which in those scenarios. I sometimes still struggle with the South Africa / Australia 50/50 in certain rural areas 😅
Also I haven’t seen many videos from anyone talking about differences between skills that are good for move/no move/nmpz and how to get better at each one
I use a mnemonic for the states that have state highway markers that use a white disk on a black background - MISSissippi, DELaware, Iowa (IA), KenTUCKy, and New Jersey. “Miss Delia tucked in her brand New Jersey.” 😄
LOL. The danger of the no front plate meta- Ohio no longer requires front plates, but that is a very recent change. Ohioans have not bothered to take theirs off or are using them for sports team support plates, and you can always find an Ohioan driving somewhere in the US, especially in states that touch Ohio.
I live in a state that does not require front plates, but I have one. custom front plates are popular. Could be a favorite sports team, the car dealership, an organization or charity you may support or hobby of the owner. Just a thought to keep that in mind.
31:20 LIC? Let me tell you about our lord and saviour the major system. In this system, 573 can be encoded into "legume" or "ligma" or "holy kami", for example (you can get creative), which is easier to memorise and associate with a state as a single word or phrase (mental image) than 3 letters. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic_major_system
I was working on a "Canada vs US traffic signs" video but now if I post it it will seem like I'm regurgitating this video. Something I would add is that on regulatory signs other than stop signs (e.g. Do Not Enter, Yield, Rail Road Crossing, One Way) if there is any text on the symbol you are 100% guaranteed to be in the US, unless the sign is on private property. For warning signs (e.g. 🚸), text makes it more likely to be in the US but you could still find fully-text signs in Canada or fully symbolic signs in the US.
I'd say the raised pavement markers are not an exact science. I've seen them in Maryland and North Carolina before. A few other random tips I've come up with: spring with red car is pretty reliably central Maine. Lines of apple trees along the road is commonly northern Michigan, especially around Grand Rapids. Also, if the road is really rough-looking and the landscape fits, try Missouri.
Zi8gzag and Geoguessr explained have never been pictured in the same room
Geoguessr Explained has the same Z8 as Zi8gzag has too... Honestly I don't wanna sound dumb but I'm starting to suspect that they might be done by the same person. I know that sounds crazy but when you look at the evidence it really adds up...
This is getting old.
They literally have. They film in the same room 😜

Bipinnate that's the one. Thanks goat

The amount of work behind these Plonk It guides is just insane

I would love to see you cover Türkiye

the reflectors on the ground that are raised are in places that do not get snow plowed, hence the west coast and the southern line.

We have US, so maybe next country Canada? 🤔
Hello. What website are you using at 19:36? I was looking for it and I cant find such a nice map anywhere.

I’ve noticed that reflectors in Washington are sometimes blue, the two times I got blue reflectors it was Washington.
These videos are great! I've been practicing Africa recently and I can't seem to region guess rural South Africa. I've gotten decent at distinctive places in Africa like western Bots and south western ZA but I'm having a rough time with other areas.
The 3 reflectors on power poles in California also appear, occasionally in southern Oregon.
Excited to learn this
37:31 are those ferns? or a typical type of ferns, not quite sure though
"Nothing sadder then Nevada" rhymes to an Australian if you pronounce both correctly

You nailed the American pronunciation of "Oregon"

“Pennsylvania and West Virginia both don’t use front plates… cause they touch Ohio” 😂😂😂

I need to learn my Liechtenstein
Can you please add timestamps, I want to be able to return to this amazing video and go to the things I want to check!
I live in a state that does not require front plates, but I have one. custom front plates are popular. Could be a favorite sports team, the car dealership, an organization or charity you may support or hobby of the owner. Just a thought to keep that in mind.
