Here we are in 2024 and at 72 years of age I shave with a 1962 Gillette Slim Adjustable using high quality super sharp "Feather" blades. Get amazing close shaves while using imported artisan shaving cream from London. Let go of those expensive cartridge razors and step back in time with an old version razor. Plus, today's double edge blades are far superior to cartridge blades and better than blades made back in the 40s, 50's, 60s and 70s. Instead of several bucks for a throw away cartridge I pay between 25 cents and 40 cents for a quality DE blade depending on the brand and if I buy in bulk or not. I get superior shaves at far less expense.
Hello Donald, I just subscribed to your channel great video. I have one of the Gillette slims myself and they are high quality razors, it looks like they are starting to copy them but I don't think they will ever be as good as the originals.

I have a Slim Adjustable, a 1965 like yours Donald. For my money it's one of the greatest safety razors ever made. The adjustable mechanism was a brilliant idea. Made to suit all men. I enjoy using mine on setting 5, and turn it down to 1-2 for delicate neck touch-ups. A very good shave for one pass there! Take care, Kiz
my gillette slim rasor ( don't know from which year it is ) is very mild and smooth, unbelievable that such old items still are working great .( it has In the base plate a K and a I, does that mean anything , also made un the USA and reg us pat off)
I'm not sure what the IDs on the base plate mean we have some Gillette pro in the crowed please jump in with the answer. I know it pretty amazing how something this old can outperform today's razor with all our advances since then.
Hi Don, thanks for your shave today. I don't have a vintage razor but did buy the fatguy a month or do ago which I'm enjoying. The occam's razor I brought on your recommendation arrived s couple of weeks ago and I'm onto my fourth shave with it. I keep nicking myself but think it's down to not being familiar with the razor. I'm enjoying it though and love the look!
@@MrDonXX I've been using the feather proguard and managed to catch my chin 2 out of four shaves. I think I just need to get use to it. Shaving tomorrow so ill see how I get on.
Hi Donald- Great shave and razor review; thank you! The Gillette Slim is definitely a nice razor and with it being re-plated, it will probably last another 65 years- amazing! I hope everything with you is good. Take good care and be safe and be well. See you next Saturday. Best regards, as always, my friend!
*_Thanks for watching Mike this one was such a pleasure to use had no idea why people sought them out but now I understand to be safe and see you next year_*
Beautiful razor. I’ve got the same kind of razor but I’m not sure if it’s a 1965 tho. But it’s gotta be old cuz it looks exactly the same as yours. Beautiful bro.
Look at the bottom and there should be a letter with a number. Mine is H1 so that means it is from 1962 during the first quarter. Just find the number and you can find the year you razor was made.
@@b.c.gamingss thanks. Just found the dates. My slim is Z-2 which is 1978 according to the chart and my fatboy is D-4 which is 1958 according to the chart. Thank u for helping me out.
Nice. I just picked up a 1961 Q4 slim. Same quarter that I was born! It's an 8 / 10 condition with just slight wear. Should last 60 more years. I use a 5 on the first pass, and dial it down to 3 going against the grain. Cheers.
How did the shave smoothness compare to the Flexi Pearl? Both being adjustable I think one could control aggression but smoothness and the level of comfort would be inherent to the razor.
*_I've used adjustables that had no effect no matter what number was selected on the dial but the Slim, what a different animal. Build in 1965 this amazing razor still can not be reproduced today to even come close to it's original performance. Remember the adjustable Flexi Peral had many issues which was brought out by so many wet shavers. They are up to the 5th revision on that razor and I think they are at a stable version now. I'm not sure what you mean by smothnes in a razor that usually come from the blade type and or the adjustable number for your beard so thats different for everyone._*
@@MrDonXX with the Rex, I experienced a lot of blade drag and it had positive blade exposure as well which led to a couple nicks. With a Rockwell, the shave just felt very smooth, no drag, but a larger head. I hear the Flexi is smoother and less aggressive from comments on forums. But not by a lot. So I was wondering if the slim is better for a shaver who needs milder shaves like yourself vs an aggressive razor off the bat like the Rex. But I was wondering if you thought the shave quality was smooth not just a mild one. Thank you!
After I got Slim H1(1961), I was fall in love with Gillette vintage adjustables, so now I got all 3 gillette adjustables(fatboy, slim, black beauty) and they are my favorite 3 rotation razors. I'm happy to see your slim shave. Recently I happen to know about your Wet the Face shaving soaps & samples, first, the coffee scent soap. I like coffee scent, and I have Cattie's Bubbles Irish Coffe & Reef Point Espresso. Which are first recommendable 3 or 5 shaving soaps of Wet the Face? Oh, nowadays I enjoy my new Occam's razor so much with satisfaction!
*_Thanks for watching and for the kind words. I'm now on a crusade to find like you Gillette's for myself. Starting with my birth Razor 1960 Fatboy. and speaking of Wet The Face Soaps The Perfect Cup is one that sells out so quickly and is currently out of stock. Vintage BarberShop, Cold Fusion, The Quiet Man which will be back in stock sometime today, Himitsu, etc... My advice is to look at the website. See what you like then order them up in sample size if they are not available let me know. This way you can know if the scent is right for you. Glad you like your Occam's Razor._*
Had to come back and comment again. Watching u use this slim made me wanna use mine for my next shave. Man bro you did an awesome job. They don’t make Gillette razors like that no more do they? The Cadillac of vintage Gillette razors. Can u do a shave with the fat boy next? Again. Beautiful shave man
@@MrDonXX nice man. Just for kicks , I was looking at the date codes on my slim and fatboy razors. My slim has Z-2 stamped on it. So I looked it up and it was made in 1978 according to the date code. Then I looked up my fatboy. It has D-4 stamped on it. It was made in 1958. I was like wow. I’m keeping it now. I was gonna well it to a guy looking for one. But after finding out how old it is. No I’ll keep it. Lol
Great shave! I have some great modern razors, but my vintage Fatboy and Tech have a certain vibe to them that can’t be beat, and the shaves are certainly fantastic. Have a great weekend!
It's not that modern technology can't reproduce these at the same level of quality, its because they don't make money off of something that lasts a lifetime haha. $25 bucks for 4 heads with the new razors, $15 for 100 DE blades.
Beautiful shave Don, and beautiful razor, Gillette makes more money selling cartridges, but the few modern offerings that Gillette came out with still doesn’t compare to the old adjustables.
*_I agree 100% they would rather push the faults narrative on more blades are better than go back to one blade is truly all you need. Thanks for watching_*

I've been trying to get my hands on a Gillette slim adjustable or a Gillette Fatboy without it breaking the bank. Vintage razors go for $100+ and it is not stainless steel. Good razor 🪒
Why they don't want to remake a quality razor like slim adjustable? Because it doesn't fit their disposable must rebuy razor market but they did overcharge for razor blades to make up cost of razor. Yeah new feather blade equals I turn down to 2 or 3 then later up to 5 or 6 just because they are just that sharp at first, even one if I go for the bbs.
@@MrDonXX yeah hope so because that brand new feather gouged my mole since so grabby sharp, then I really nicked the chin, after that I learned to paint lightly on that blade.Probably made a mistake buying 300 feather blades at 15 bucks a hundred.
That’s one of my favorite razors. Sure we have the technology to make a razor like that. Gillette probably sold millions of slims and the blades to go with them. I doubt anyone could recreate a demand like that. Price would be the next issue. I have a Rex Ambassador that sells for $250.00. The razor’s fit and finish are amazing. I’m sure that price is justified by all the tasks involved in bringing a product of that quality to market. I’m amazed at your shaving technique. It’s similar to the way I peel a potato. And your follow up with no soap. If I tried that my bathroom would like a crime scene. I always enjoy your videos. Keep em’ coming.
