Nice-looking dog indeed! Thanks for presenting him to us, Garret, and for sharing his progress as his program advances. And great to hear you grew up with German Shepherds, awesome breed. Haha, says someone from that country, so I'm biased, but if we had a national dog breed, it would be that. In Germany, they're a common occurrence, but here in Portugal, everyone's afraid of them. You wouldn't believe the number of people who got barked and growled at by my big, massive, bear-like Estrela Mountain Dog in passing by near the house. While our sleek, light-weight German Shepherd was minding her own business. But no one ever worried about the big dog. Instead, they keep asking "Uh-oh, a German Shepherd... Does he bite? / Is he dangerous? / Whoa, I'm afraid of THOSE ones..." INCREDIBLE! Will from Fenrir said once that they have this wolf-like appearance that gives people the chills on some subconscious level at least; some genetic stuff maybe from back when humans were cavemen, and wolves were a threat to them. Would make sense, I guess: There wasn't any big floofy Mountain Dogs around then, so people don't realize them as threats.
That's very interesting. Never thought of that. I can agree with it makes a lot of sense the natural instinct to be afraid of wolf like dogs. My old police dog looked like a dire wolf from Game of Thrones. Very intimidating.
@@AmericanStandardK9 Good on your old boy; such a nice natural intimidation factor must have come in handy on the job: Triggering the genes of those potential evil-doers to tell them: "Uh-oh, big bad wolf right there - avoid contact at all cost! - And better be friendly to the nice Officer on the other end of that leash..."

Still hoping to see more of your work with the Staffy. My Staffy is the first small dog that I am working with, very different, and he’s also very meek compared to what i have trained before , working bird dogs, GSP and setter. Finding it challenging, but looking back at your older videos for tips. Looking forward to see the change in the Shepard.
