I'm from Washington State, born and raised. we get hit by rain flow every year nonstop (nothing new). Don't forget that there was a semi-cyclone storm that plunged the same way since December of 2006. Which I'd never heard of the term "bomb cyclone" at the time. Kinda hard not to chuckle about it, honestly. Anyway, for those who passed away (only 1 that did) in the middle of the storm, RIP ❤ and those got injured etc...just be careful out there too. We know the Snoqualmie pass taking I-90 or any other passes going through the Cascades is very terrible because of the snow or those that cannot drive in snow (*sighs*🙄). The same thing with the closures, rock slides, and the road rearrangements as well 😑
Yes, I’m in WA, too. I think “bomb cyclone” ranks up there with “atmospheric river” - a whole lot of hype for what is basically a lot of wind and rain. It’s slightly different in the way this developed, sure, but overall, it’s just a nasty storm. The things media does for ratings and putting the fear of God out there. 🙄
Or that, for those who aren't from the PNW had no clue or not familiar what it's like to have this kind of weather? (*shrugs*). So, yeah, it's just a very bad bad bad storm.
Watching East Coasters cover huge storms on the West Coast is so annoying. If this had happened on the East Coast, they would have talked about it for the whole show. But since it’s on the West Coast it’s thirty seconds of coverage and then straight to talking about their own weather.
The only thing we should be prepared, aware, afraid, or concerned about is the sleeping volcano(es), especially Rainier erupting. We dont even know when it will happen??? I forgot to mention the earthquakes (rarely) and the wildfires, too.
As if Cyclone aint enuff when you add "Bomb" to the description of the Weather front headed toward you it is gonna give you a moment of pause and concern...I wonder what is worse, a "Bomb Cyclone" or a C4 Hurricane?

Hello from the south. Part of me wants to dunk on folks because y’all have made fun of us for every winter storm of the last decade, but part of me would never wish such a storm on anyone down here either. It's NOT a cyclone! Cyclones only occur in the Indian ocean and around Australia. If it's in the Eastern Pacific, it's called a hurricane, just like in the Atlantic. It could be called a bomb hurricane, but not a cyclone.
It dropped 66 millibars in 24 hours. Bottoming out at 942 millibars. This is the pressure equivalent of a high end Category 3, low end Category 4 hurricane. Millibars are units of barometric pressure. The lower the pressure the stronger the storm. The lower the pressure generally the stronger the wind. A bomb cyclone only needs to drop 24 millibars in 24 hours to get that title.
Wrong. The phenomena you’re referring to are called tropical cyclones. Tropical cyclones are called Hurricanes in the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific, Typhoons in the western Pacific, and cyclones in the Indian Ocean. A bomb cyclone is not a tropical cyclone, it is something called an extratropical cyclone and has different features from a tropical system like the existence of warm and cold fronts in the system, something tropical cyclones do not have. They are also not powered by warm water like tropical cyclones but rather by baroclinic processes. Tropical systems are warm-core, extratropical systems are cold-core. These kind of cyclones also go by different names sometimes based on where they are located. In the Northeastern US extratropical cyclones can be called Nor’easters. In Europe they are called European windstorms, and in the Pacific Northwest, Pacific Northwest windstorms. A bomb cyclone refers to how the cyclone is created.
"Bomb Cyclone"?! Oh my gosh! See, when you change weather to scary words, you freak out the weak minded and can manipulate them into funding your existence. 😂😂😂 It's perfect for people younger generations. Us old people ain't falling for it.
that depends on what you consider "normal" to be. what frequency? a pnw storm of this magnitude is not that common. rain and storms in general during the winter, sure.
We sat up waiting for it. We are near the bay in Florence Oregon. Just a bunch of rain which is normal.
Bro, with the amount of branches blown down in Seattle, it looks like Christmas decorations were put up early
I know just another big NOTHING BURGER!! THIS IS CLEARLY A DIVERSION FOLKS DONT BELIEVE IT
