- This is my Max Payne Speedrun completed in 78 segments on Dead on Arrival difficulty (hardest) in 42:41 according to SDA timing. This is the current record and was completed by me 'ridd3r' on 6th September 2011.
I redid p1c5-p1c9 due to some big skips in p1c6 and p1c7 that I found, resulting in over 1:30 saved!

I included the Secret Finale as a fun extra. I did it with 1 Jackhammer only, no rolling and no damage.

The truth was a blazing green chasm in my head. Running past my enemies, rolling to my destinations, using glitches to reach impossible speeds and heights.
I was in a speedrun. Funny as hell, It was the most horrible thing I could think of.

If you shoot the securityguard yourself just in time, the crooks cant do it
You cant save him, even if you kill the guy who usually kills him, security guy just dies no matter nobody shots him, even blood falls on floor i think. This happens because it is a scripted death, he doesn't actually die from shotgun, i remember there were situations where guy with shotgun missed him, bullet hit the wall on right side, and he still died
31:38 I love that scene where the two blonde spooks kill that technician and go "I think he's dead already". They shoot forward for about fifteen seconds and never change their aim to account for the victim being dead and not standing up anymore. They're even aiming above their eye level. They've got these angry looks on their faces while they unload full mags in to thin air. Looks ridiculous.
This speedrun just turned my entire childhood upside down. Insanely impressive.

Of all the speedruns I have seen, I feel like this is the one that requires the most knowledge of the game to be accomplished. Awesome run dude, it's unfortunate you didn't do one for Max Payne 2, that would have been awesome to see.

cut ridd3r some slack. people griping about bugs and glitches should really look up summoningsalt’s videos...he documents the history of certain games’ speedruns and the subsequent speedrunners who defined the history of those games online. people don’t understand I think how difficult it is to perfect glitches and bugs within a game to perform them as perfectly as ridd3r or many other speedrunners do. glitches and warps are accepted for most games and given their own category in speedruns, so it’s not cheating by any speedrunning standard either. what ridd3r did is pretty fucking cool and I’m sure took hours of gameplay...Thanks for sharing this with us. I couldn’t sleep and wanted to rewatch gameplay of one of my favorite childhood games and I got to see this amazing spectacle because of it. Kudos to you and all the work you put into it

Because of the skip at 39:18 the guards are still alive. Normally you would kill them but for whatever reason they somehow end up walking into the laser area which kills them. Fun fact: I actually discovered this trick by accident around 12 years ago after holding W down after closing the comic strip. I eventually stumbled upon a speedrun of this game and noticed Ridd3r didn't use it in his previous run so I told him about it to save him time! :)

Full Focus That's the jumping bug. When you on a 2-Hand Weapon, Switch to 1-Hand Weapon and press jump. If you on 1-Hand Weapon, just switch to 2-Hand Weapon and jump.

he's cheating. He's using an invincibility bug and calling this a ''legit run''. Just like every single speedrunner ever. I would respect his cheating if at least he put it in the title.

in train cutscene he fell - because tre train pushed him, smth like that. So, that was enough damage for max to die. But you can't die in a cutscene, so we have the walking dead, and enemies think that you are already dead

Which Max Payne game is better? Max Payne 1 or Max Payne 2, I prefer Max Payne 1. Great job on the run man, I'm proud of ya. I will never do such a great run like you. But It's nuthin'.
Max Payne 1 is the best. None of the sequels compare to the original.
Everything is great. I really love the whole story. Surely, the first is the best, but the third turned out to be very very close. Genious storylines.
Max Payne 1 = Better Story and Atmosphere > Max Payne 2 = More satisfying Gameplay
Played this so much back when I was coming out of high school/starting college. Don't know how I could get so much done and still play hundreds of hours. Good times.
@zackyee1 No it's not a TAS, this run specifically took me about 130-150 hours. Obviously I've done other runs etc. and spent more time than that on this game.

Why arent the enemies attacking him
They've not been triggered due to the sequence breaking.
Rolling is significantly quicker for pro2 & pro3, I've tested it several times.
You can skip several cutscenes in pro1, but super jumping skips all but one and saves a couple of seconds on the stairs. Unless you're saying you can skip that cutscene?

Can someone explain to me why every speedrunner looks down at the ground majority of the games? Is your aimbot to powerful that it wont show unless you aim it at the ground, until the right moment? What is the benefit? Aimbot is the only thing I can think of. so your mouse doesnt race all over the place and you wont get caught. Or is there some secret to it that makes you run faster? The fuck is that?
Just re-watched it again and I love it as much as I did the first time I saw it.. Anyways do you have any other MP Speedrun project in mind?
Thanks. I don't have any Speedrun projects at the moment to be honest. I did float the idea of a team segmented run (as this run can now be beaten with the start of level save glitch) ages ago when I completed the RTA, but there wasn't any interest.

When you spam bullet time, the bullets that are already currently in the air won't hit you if I recall correctly.
Don't think that's true. If I don't get attacked it's because I skipped their trigger zones. It's all explained in tlinks in the description.
Ah I think it was probably max payne 2, I heard the speedrunner Saintmillion talk about it during SGDQ earlier. I guess maybe the same mechanic doesn't apply in the first game.
