- Floor and sills get fitted to my mk3 Cortina. Lots of welding and spot welding to get things lined up and looking as orginal as possible. I check and fit the seat mount bolts to the new floor pan.
Fantastic attention to detail and precise measurements. Henry Ford would be proud of your work Pete. Looking forward to the next episode which can be any number you wish as there seems to be some confusion. Maybe the fumes from the welder are taking effect? Hang in there bro, the entertainment is ace.
Hi Pete fantastic job again very neat. I don't know what with all these panels you can get now, you'll soon be able to make a Cortina kit car.....
Dead cool the way you keep those millimetres under control, Pete.
Great series Pete, I'm really enjoying this, these skills (lessons) can be transferred to many applications, both for motorcycles and cars. Keep up the good work, and thanks for putting in the time to document and post it all 👍
It will be better than factory in my humble opinion! Keep up the good work Pete!
Doing a great job Pete, you are lucky that you are in the UK as you can get replacement panels for a reasonable price. I got a quarter panel (rear wing) for my TD (mk3) cortina a few years ago and the shipping from the UK to Australia was more than the price of the panel.
Hi, I'm writing from Argentina. I do not miss any episode. Excellent work.
Another tremendous episode, keep up the good work Pete!👍👍
hi pate hope doing good and you doing awesome job on welding wont be long till we see it on road again the way you going mate
Really amazing progress so far Pete 💯
Thanks Pete we feel like we are on a mission with you LOL your work is amazing ,we are so proud of you .take care love always xx
Looking fetching there Pete! Nice and toasty in that Frost number! ;)
the t shirt fits good! FROST parts tumbler coming soon
Looks ready for MOT (almost) ! :)
Hi pete another good sesion on the cortina. You sounded real chuffed with your result which is what its all about. Was just thinking you must be running out of room for all those lovely cars and i cant see you selling any of em because that would be like mental amputation lol.Cheers keith
This is devotion to Cortinas (and a rare one too), it's such a pleasure to watch. I'm going to come to the shows and see this when it's done but only if you let me sit in it and dream!
Superb videos!
Hi Pete. Really impressed with Bramble so far. Can't wait for EP15
Was looking forward to seeing door in place may be next time enjoying the build Pete cheers kev
Pete c I like what you are doing really enjoyed this program of a iconic car. Well done sir
Great video from go to wo bro. Bits are coming together well. All the best
I'd suggest when plug welding that you start at the edge of the hole and finish in the centre.
thanks for this!!! ok ill give that a tray, thanks for watching too!! Pete
hi pete watching from a little town in victoria australia called mirboo the detail on this build has been great im doing something similar on a eh holden getting some great tips thanks mate looking forward to ep15
Okay Pete, you can stop calling yourself amateur now. Official.
Say it Pete, the Chinese stuff is rubbish😁 But I Have even tried the local big box hardware store and used their $1 each belts, which didn't break but shed all of the grit in less than a minute. I only use air for safety sake, having received more than my share of jolts from burnt or worn cables. I will see if i can get the Screwfix belts posted to Australia .
Hi pete ur cars comin on well . Im impressed by ur level of quality put into ur work on this car id feel safe driving this car anywhere id not give the strenth and the quality of the workmanship a second though with regard to my saftey its a top class job . Im surprised ur not a time served welder the only difference is the paperwork .involved . To accrediate u as ur welding is great . Ur a quality metal worker ur more or less making a cortina a lot of people woulda scrapped it or stripped it for parts . The dip really shows how bad the metal is . Its shocking how much it actually shows up . Lookin forward to the next edition . Im only finding ur vids . So pls forgive me if im way behind . Lookin forward to the paint and u finally getting through mot and driving her around . Im lookin for a decent escort van the earlier the better although the last ones were brilliant that 1.8 turbo diesel was a great engine . Its all the electics and electronics that put me off modern cars and vans id rather a far simpler vehicle to run anyway hope u and family well take care chat soon . Ian innes .
hi pete car going very good and the work is get in better every time so keep going with the good work.
Progressing great as always. You might want to think about adding an extra tank to your existing compressor and finding a source of replacement bearings for the finger grinders.
Ford Factory Brown in all those hard to reach places. What's not to love?! Mac.
When I get notified you've got another new Bramble episode to view - I clear my time table in the evening so that each new episode is my evening television entertainment. I don't know what your day job is, or if you even have one - but you'd make a wonderful instructor and educator, especially for restoring nearly beyond hope and prayer salvage cars. With that now posted, I raise my wine glass to you and say; CHEERS - good job Pete! P.S. Give kitty a kiss for me.
Fantastic Video Pete. I love your attention to detail & the commentary.
Great choice on the Zirconia discs..... 100 times better than the standard finger discs, as you know. I bought the Evolution croc sander, very happy with it. Bramble is coming along great! 👍👍😉
Now I'm pretty sure Pete and please do correct me here if I'm wrong that in the numerical sequence of things and in the grand scheme of it all 13 comes just after 12 and immediately prior to 14 or is it that going around and around in that dryer has scrambled the old grey matter a tad .. I once put my younger brother in one of those and switched it on .. he was never the same again ... to be fair though he wasn't strictly 'all there 'before' he went in, lol
No matter I can go with 14 I'm good with 14 in fact I've been chompin at the bit that long for the next update 14's just peachy and when episode 13 'does turn up normality will again be resumed .. one step forward and another one back .. but in 'my garage that's usually two ;)
cant type much as on limited connection. there is no episode 13 but 14 picks up from 12. ep13 is always reserved, you will notice same on ruby and swampy series lol pete ep13 is usually the bloopers published at end of entire series
@@PeteCswampy Ah ok that explains it then, I actually mulled over earlier that you may be a little superstitious and as such may not include an episode 13 in any of your videos ... but the blooper thing is good with me that makes sense .. I'll watch out for that later on then lol, keep up the outstanding work Pete may the force be with you ;)
I was confused as to the whereabouts of episode 13. This has settled my mind! 💪
Unlucky 13......
@@PeteCswampy sort of a 13th floor in the lift situation then yeah?
loving it cortina cats and tumble dryer ,how about the tumble dryer door as a sun roof!
I do enjoy your video's keep them coming Pete mate
Well done Pete....
Bramble looks more like she did when she came out of the factory
Pete, c'mon buddy, we all wanted to know: *Does the door fit..??*
Another great vid Pete... really looking forward to episode 13... or are you superstitious? 🤦♀️
Hi Pete progressing nicely, good job on floor pan, Love the intro to this episode but obviously doing the washing is not for you, so better get the missus involved!!
Absolutely brilliant metalworking Pete, it's a pleasure to watch. Hope you're keeping well mate.
Hey Pete i didn't know you were superstitious lol, bad luck always comes in three’s with me ... My Cortina City & Project Bramble
T Shirt arrived Yesterday, very nice too ! I’ve been wearing them with pride - to the pub Lol. I can’t wait for my Project bramble Mug , soon be able to join you for a cuppa . Your right about the cill Lips, in fact none of the edges would look right if they were perfect. Ford tolerances always allowed for a great deal of inconstancy in there pressings. I've seen allot of factory joins that are overlapping massively . Im really pleased to see you primed over the Zinc182 its dead porous that stuff absorbs water and rust comes through in no time if its not sealed in with paint . Great Job!
Hey Pete ,your spot welder explains the flickering lights now and again in the Bold hotel on Lord Street Southport!
Lol
Hi Pete 1am this morning i watched ep14 followed by the abonadend car woke 9am to find I had been dreaming of cortina,s, worse dreams to be had Pete lad 😁 lol. 1 question I have is that you all ready done mark 3 cortinas there must be other Ford's you dream about to? Would you not like to do a mk1 escort for example one of my all time favorite cars my brother owned a mk1 Mexico in white with a black stripe back in 1987 he payed £400 for it I bet it be worth 20+grand today lol .I've not missed a video of yours yet keep up the good work . Ps do an escort one day much love over and out
skf explorer 626 -zz/c3gjn will fix bearing on mac Allister power file . mine did the same and used a soft roofing bolt to replace rivet, works a treat cost about £7 from bearings uk, its a high temp and high speed sealed bearing
why didn't they save those machines, looked like they were just ripping them out and damaging them. Pointless waste
Ahh Newcastle. I remember back in the day going to Tuxedo Princess and Rockshots which was an eye-opener for this innocent youngster. Feels like a lifetime ago now.
Hi Pete, Nice job of fitting the inner & outer sills, and on the repair on the bottom of the "A" post, looks nice painted in the primer, I see your using the zinc rich U Pol weld through I told you about, I have had no rust issues on my Mk3. build using that,, I found it to be a very good product.. enjoyed the episode as always,
Thanks for the opinion on the mac belt needle file. Been thinking about getting one and the price drop was a clincher. click and collect. I agree with the welding ability, i can fix metal together but proper welding is another thing. Knew a welder nicknamed Sticky who worked on the rigs, word was he could stick weld kitchen foil.. Making great strides with Bramble.
Does it ever go through your mind that this car was beyond the point of rescue by normal restorers? The amount of work, skill and bravery you are demonstrating is just remarkable! Nobody else would be able to do it! 😳😎
You are doing an absolutely fantastic job on this project, and at record speed. No small undertaking for sure the amount of body work. That sill looked factory when it was painted up.
Great progress, I knew there was a lot of work ahead from the start but it's only as you progress and start cutting out the rot that it really becomes apparent just how much work is involved just to get the shell ready. I admire your dedication and effort but maybe most of all your planning, to end up 1mm out on one point of reference says it all.
I remember the long hot summer of ‘76 and the smell of my Dad’s new Cortina mk4 estate, PSL488R.
Really great job on the A pillar and the B pillar pete very creative use of the materials at hand plato said "necessity is the mother of invention" and my hats off to you m8 for not only taking on a project so envolved but for doing it with such passion and consideration for the vehicles future conservation because i agree with you they all deserve saving they are british icons after all
Surely you should be singing songs from the 70’s to go with the Mk3, not Duran Duran, maybe the bee gees 🕺🏽
well i guess some bits don't get made so yeah using an old washer or dryer or machine that'll be okay, might be a bit green here and there but another dip in the acid will fix that, besides old machine good for putting bits on a cortina that or bramble has gotten to much so pete's setting up bramble the washing machine, get it washed inside a mk3 cortina, not even the usa bramy ppl have done that!
Yeah mate you have to try get those plug welds complete otherwise they won't be strong. Need to go around the hole once you start in the middle.. keep going keep learning I'm still learning myself
Looking good pete, your really moving forward with this project, love the videos keeps me entertained on a night time, a thumbs up from me
I learn so much from you Pete. It's like night school; only better and I can drink tea.. with honey :)
do you sleep thinking about new metal and old cortina? Hubnut suggested your channel. loving it. :D
Top notch work Pete as always that finished sill looked a treat you need not worry about your welding skills mate id be happy with that all week long.
Quality work as always Pete nice one mate 👍
you pete c are a genius at Metalworking love what you do :) keep up the good work
Alright Pete, loving the vid, what's your timescale to get bramble finished?
Hi Pete C just watched 14 With pint looking good so far great work look forward to next one
Doen't it half sting when you get a welding splat burn through your Converse though :)
Just the o/s rear quarter and wheel tub and the o/s is almost done.
Nice job again pete mate. Hope you have some of your merchandise at the NEC
Hi is this what you do as your main job, do these cars up and sell them
He wont sell any, has tina g, a green gxl that was used by the grand tour, swampy, his first youtube restoration, ruby, the last restoration and then bramble, he was part way through restoring ruby when he got this, bramble was not for sale when he started ruby so as soon as she came available he dragged her home then finished ruby before starting bramble. Oh an he also has TC, an old co-op cortina mk3 estate.
You do the best intro`s ever Pete, I love Allegro`s....random but true !!
First MILITARY GRADE Cortina ever made !
This car reminds me of triggers broom lol. But another good vid some really good work going on it's really coming together at a pace give yourself a pat on the back.
Another top video Pete, enjoying watching you work.
One way to wash your hands lol
Really enjoying this build Pete, I think you're a local lad too so double thumbs up! You do some great welding and fabrication work, but if you need any tips check out URCHFAB channel. He has done a lot of tutorial videos on welding and fabricating. Keep up the good work pal, awesome job so far!
Second that tip Matt at urchfabs welding is a master class Keith
Ah yes, you ended with a wish for beer,....just so happens I have "partaken" in a few beers,..hehe,...just in the last hour, poured in a premade foam 24 ounce cup with a chilada mix in a package,....."Don Chelada" brand,...and wow, I have to work tomorrow, but I will have one more and that is it. Anyway, great video, this is so great. Anbd I aspire to get myself a 240 volt harbor freight spot welder all the time these days so I can have some fun, darned, even if I just make some modern art for display, seems so much fun, I always wanted one.
Speaking of laundromats, and machines, my paternal grandmother, who during WW2 was a welder, and a fitter(of assemblies for liberty ships), she was tained and experienced with ship building for the war effort in Portland Oregon, the Kaiser ship yards, they built cargo ships to carry food and vehicles, machines etc, to for instance England(UK) during WW2, and after the war she built up a laundromat business by purchasing machines that needed rebuilt, and she built some extra dry cleaning machinery with her skills she learned during the war effort, a true story, ....it helped her immensely, especially with the funds provided as gift from her ex husband my grandfather. She was a tough old bird, lived almost to ninety years old, and was sort of embarrassed years later to admit she knew machinery and welding at one time, I mean she was a master seamstress too for the laundry and during ww2 that she had also done sewing for making of uniforms and such like that, which also helped understanding and knowing things post ww3 in the laundry business.....Veterans always got fifteen percent off on laundry services, and post ww2, there were alot of veterans, working in the timberlands cutting trees or working in sawmills in the Oregon southern Oregon coast region, ....basically Gold Beach Oregon where I was born in the late sixties. Wow, those dryers look exactly like he laundry we had downtown we used to use in the 1970's, I swear, in fact, even a few years ago the laundry still had machines exactly like that I noticed.
All seems to be progressing well. Good to know I am not the only root beer drinker.
fing love your channel pete. my day it looks factory. great job
Mate, brambles really coming on. looking sweet.
Yes Pete Tha Toon (Newcastle) is a good night out !!!!
One hell of a video Pete 😎
A true master at work 🙂🍻👍
Great video Pete it came together really well a pleasure to watch👍
usual comment (great vid Pete)
I like the way you turn a sive full of holes back to a cortina
Is it just me, or are you going a lot faster than you used to go?
hi pete i am a coded in house welder and from what i can tell your welds are very good and judging by the heat discolour and the weld pool the penetration is spot on for that thickness of metal as for clean up there is always some sort of clean up with mig / mag welding even with pulse mig welders Keep up the good work mate its a pleasure to sit back and chill out with a beer and watch.
thanks for this!!!!!!! im real glad you like the welding and also very happ you enjoy watching!!!!! from Pete
Has anybody ever promoted a rust poem competition
Great job Pete, I love your attention to detail.
A lot of tools sold generally arn't meant for trade use.
The presentation is always on the thumbs.
Cant seem to get episode 13 can you help pete
Cannot fault you mate great progress 👍
duck oil is a good lubricating for air tools
Look forward to the vids every week
ABSO Brill once again Pete!!!!!!!!!! The CROCK is the BEST!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
Episode 13 is MISSING😱😱😱😱😱
Ep13 is the blooper reel at the end as it was on swampy and ruby
I gave you a thumbs up just for the tumble dryer LOL
Been waiting all week for this, nice one Pete, this rate itll be finished by july ;)
Have you considered using lead filler where filling is needed?
i did gaz but modern fillers are good
Great video Pete, i like the rapid fire videos lol. Great job on the inner and outer sill looks great.
Cheers, Jeff.
WILD BOYS!😆👍
Pete. Try using a thin copper tube as a sleeve to fit around your spot weld drillbits but leaves 15 mm of drillbit sticking from end of copper tube.
This prevents the drill screeching through the hole and the Chuck smashing in to the metal. Makes the whole process far easier as you can confidently push without to worry and your neighbours will appreciate the silence.
i have koupled 2 small kompressors together(2,5 hp)..used a dubbel male konnektor(on a short line)..it give a fleksibel run..use one kompressor in light Work..and power both up in heavy Work..a bigger tank..dont realy help..if the pump unit is sleightly to small..koupled together the one unit(even it are not powered vill be a ekstra tank unit(and cost less that a ekstra tank unit
Another fascinating episode Pete, the A-pillar plus inner and outer sill fitted a treat, I do have one request (if I may be so bold), would be great to see more welding, we see all the prep which is great then you cut to the finished article so if poss could you include more mig work? (love welding) I know time is an issue so no problem if you cant, re your crock sander is it possible to replace the broken bearing? they do look like a standard one so you may get more life out of them, I have a Black and Decker like your old one which has served me well.
John (Norfolk)
Lovely job, Pete, coming along a treat! Blah to the naysayers, your measurements prove that! :-) Using seam sealer from a tube certainly looks to be much better than from a tin, much better coverage and ingress of the seam joint, also looks more factory because you get the excess pushed out to the side. Good progress mate, keep up the fantastic work.
P.S Love the cat!
Excellent work, Pete, It's really taking shape.
