Two of my absolute favourite dudes on the planet! I was fortunate enough to do a drummers workshop with Kenny and meet him here in Perth Australia about 15 years or so ago. No offence to Bill, but he is 54 years of age and Kenny is 70 years of age! Kenny looks the same age! Amazing & inspirational. 👍😎😎😎😎🤘🥁 Great episode guys.
Wow Kenny really looks healthy and fit for 70, I'm would think he looks 30-35 years younger than 70! Keep it going Kenny! Helps that he's so chill and relaxed all the time, I've never seen him stressed out or angry, he's always smiling , always positive vibes
One of my favourite drummers and one of my favourite comedians…. Bing instant subscription. Much respect @Kenny Aronoff. Ever since I heard Jack and Diane when I was a kid growing up in Belgium in 1982 I was an instant fan. Loved your work growing up and loved how you’ve played with all these other great artists. Much respect from Fiji. God bless you guys both👍😎🇫🇯🙏🤙👊❤️…actually clicked on this because I thought it was Bill interviewing one of his drum heroes😂😂😂😂 very cool flow to the interview, music, sports, comedy…..🤘👍🤙👊
Bronson Arroyo won a World Series championship with the Red Sox in 2004 and was inducted in the Cincinnati Reds HOF in 2023. They absolutely love the guy in the Cincinnati area. Great interview! Thanks Kenny.
Thanks Rob.. I played on Bronson's solo record right after the Red Sox won the world series.. Super cool guy.. I had him pitch to me. OMG so fast and it was only 65 mph.. Every pitch would curve at the last minute in a different direction. Crazy. : )
Bruh….. LOVED THIS! Saw BB in Montreal at a club in the middle of the afternoon with several other comics. Each comic did a little routine and then they all got together and jammed! Then later that night I saw Bill’s act at a theatre. Man…. So memorable! Thanks Kenny!
Awesome hang!!!! Love seeing folks who are so talented yet don’t blow off how incredibly hard you work. I love that you speak about the insane amount of effort it takes to be at your level and maintain that. Peace and stay well Kenny and Bill !!
Fun discussion (drumming and otherwise) with Bill. Looking forward to more great episodes in the future. Thanks, too, for a great clinic you put on back in the early 2000s at an Athens, GA bar when I was an undergrad. I still remember your good advice to keep the tempo steady when the song's building to a crescendo. Amazing podcast chops this few episodes in!
Saw this guy playing for smashing pumpkins in 98'. I remember very clearly, I had never seen a person try to tear a hole through their drum kit quite like Kenny 👍👍🤟🤟🤟
lol.. Yeah I was going after it.. Such an important tour. The pUmpkins were the biggest alternative band at that time. It was an honor to be part of that tour.
This is great! I could listen to you guys talking drums all day and im not a drummer. Bill is such a humble drummer he's actually a sleeper. Kenny i didn't know i knew you but checking you out i totally know your work. This is great content. Really. Thank you.
The Gary Wright song y'all are thinking of is LOVE IS ALIVE and yes, for some reason; it's one of the sickest drum tracks in pop music history. Andy Newmark, great session drummer, played on that track. Also, for some reason, a lot of comedians are also drummers. Fred Armisen, Dana Carvey, Johnny Carson, Bill Cosby, Jon Stewart, etcetera... I've always wondered what that connection is.
i loved when kenny played with john fogerty he had freaking chains around his sticks he was a beast at that show .... and i would love to se the vince Neil and billy gibbons show ...... love from hamilton ontario canada
Ken. Great show. As I'm reacting it's 48:00 in. I would have wondered what Baldy thought about the film "Whiplash" . What say you also ? I loved it. I never realized how far ahead Jazz drummers were until I saw that . Gotta love Artimus from Skynyrd /APB . Dig his disipline and stick handling ,
Joey... I have worked with intense teachers, conductors, a few artists and sometime producers that were as demanding as that teacher was in Whiplash. Those experiences made me who I am .
This was an awesome interview! Like Bill & being a fellow New Englander myself I saw you at Great Woods with Mellencamp. Always said I never heard anyone hit a snare as hard as you do live. In fact when I saw you,you broke a snare. Was the Dance Naked tour
What an excellent podcast episode! Thank you Kenny for co-creating this one. (: Great to meet you in London recently where you played so awesome with Satch! Continued kudos and much love. xWx
The Red Lion Inn is amazing. I went to school in the Berkshires with Arlo Guthrie's kids. It's amazing what notable names are hiding in the simple life in W.Mass
John Mellencamp owes you exactly half of every dollar he ever made. His first four albums would have been nothing without your drums. Very few records owe this much of their success to drum parts. Your drumming even overtook the guitar parts as the most important orchestration of his albums, not that the guitars were too shabby…. When you go into those tom beats on Justice and Independence Day, I get shivers…It sounds like Ricky Ricardo’s drummer at the “ Club” if he liked Rock And Roll. You should get half that damn publishing! Anyway, you keep doing you, love your musicianship and this shit is cool as Hell too! Be Well!
sorry i'm new... burr is a favorite (f ticketmaster, cant see hershey show cause i dont have a phone) but when i saw your face... i said thats the drummer for fogerty... odd as you then mentioned in the intro. favorites converge. almost like a premonition... Thanks for this. just started...
Before Kenny transformed his persona, I had/have an issue of Modern Drummer where he is on the cover. Side hair and balding, no sunglasses. Nevertheless, there was a contest to win a dw 6pc drumset and a whole set of UFIP cymbals. I WON IT!! A chump from Arizona…(I also had to pay the taxes on a $10,000 prize package 😮) My favorite is with him and the BoDeans playing ‘Idaho’ live.
As noted elsewhere here, Jim Keltner did 'Dreamweaver'. Andy Newmark is also on that album. Alan White did all the drumming on Wright's excellent debut album 'Extraction', which includes Klaus Voorman, who also did the cover art; Trevor Burton of the Move (which evolved into ELO); Mick Abrahams of Jethro Tull (by then fronting his own band Blodwyn Pig) and other names of the day. White had come from the Alan Price Set (Price, the original Animals organist scored numerous hits in the UK - white was also producer here), John Lennon, and Terry Reid's band (w/David Lindley). He was also on Wright's second album, 'Footprint', which included Keltner, Jim Gordon, and Colin Allen. Here is White ripping it up with Wright: ruclips.net/video/KiQzvU5nRmU/видео.html
Gary Wright . Dream Weaver was the somg at the roller rink , they turn lights out in like 7th grade to hook w/ a girl and grab a makeout maybe 2nd base.

I don't think I've sat so close to a screen since I was a kid. I realized around 53 mins in that I've been at my desk leaning in to this laptop like I'm trying to smell their breath! Compelling. Oh, and I so love Bill. Sorry, Kenny, I'm not familiar with you (possibly your work, naturally, but the name didn't register. But then again, I am a big music fan, play guitar and a little keys, violin when younger, and I often don't know the names of my favorite bands members!) 😂
Bill is multi-talented with acting and stand-up, as well as a good dude who has a hilarious outlook on life. Brady has set records that are out of reach, and deflate gate is moronic. He could have thrown a couch cushion, but that doesn't change the tackles nor the game plan to win.

That's because he's totally bald and has no facial hair so you can't see how old he is.
Doofus.
Just finished listening to the audiobook version of Kenny's autobiography so this was a real treat to watch. Highly recommend the book.
Fantastic that you liked my audio book.. I busted my ass to make it right.. So I appreciate your appreciation..
Loved hearing Kenny talk prepping charts writing every beat out on original/cover/live songs knowing where and when everything happens. True pro!

Bill Burr frustrating moments? How bout that legendarily hilarious raging Philly meltdown! Dude lost it, but mistakenly thought he screwed up! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Gary Wrights drummer on dream weaver was one of those studio drummers.........called Jim Keltner!

exactly... I remembered after we did the podcast.. Jim is going to be a guest later this year.. He has some stories and great i insight.
yup.. I remembered after the interview. : )
1:00:40 Maybe Yussef Dayes? If so his playing reminds me of Amir Bresler. Both drummers play unbelievable stuff very quietly.
That sounds amazing. I will check them out
