I heard the original on the radio the other day and I felt nostalgic....then when David Cook's version came on on my I pod I got goosebumps and my heart started to beat a little faster!! It's that voice of his that gets to me evey time!! I wouldn't say one is better than the other they are just different...and right now I love different!!!!
That breathy tone of his gets under my skin every time! Bravo David, bravo!
At 59 years old, I have heard a LOT of rock in my life! David always brings a fresh approach, a new way of expression, and it's not just someone else singing an old song. The song becomes new, exciting and a welcome addition to any playlist generated. And then there is David himself, with an electricity and excitement all his own that makes every song spectacular!

David's voice gives this cover an edge the original didn't have which updates the vibe without trashing the goodness of the original. Excellent choice for the Idol exit song, a hopeful sentiment. Simon Fuller (Idol producer) is a genius for selecting this song and David to perform it.

I just love to listen to Cook sing this. His voice is so addictive and he is just a fantastic singer and musician. I'm sure he was chosen to sing this as the boot song for American Idol because nobody can do a remake like David Cook can. He was the last person from American Idol to have a platinum album. Not many artists get platinum anymore.

Great job, David! For those who commented that his voice sounds different, you really should go back and listen to his pre-idol, idol & post-idol music. This man's voice is an instrument that can sound anyway he wants it to for each song. Remember Music of the Night? Barbasol? Feed Your Ego? He wasn't lying during his Idol audition when he said he was versatile vocally! And to top it all off, he is amazing live!

David Cook has to be the most underrated singer in the world. Sure, he has his loyal fan base and following, but he still has not been recognized for the incredible pipes he possesses!!! I have 3 decades of experience as a vocal coach and singer. David has a brilliant voice. A tenor with a beautifully dark tone. Rare. And his writing skills are underrated (not applicable here). This is tasteful, respecting the original yet pumped w testosterone and subtle muscle. Restrained power. WIN!
