They say she's Meryl Streep of the opera world, which I totally agree. She not only sings well but also acts fabulously.

This woman is the textbook of operatic singing. Beyond being so good, she also instructs as she sings. Any up and coming opera singer should immediately look to her, study her, learn how it's to be done. Of course, all great singers have something to offer, but few of any art are the teachers, the textbook performers. It's just how it is.

Her voice is incredible but I say look at Kiri Te Kanawa, Leontyne Price, Renee Fleming and Maria Callas for the greats to learn from. Lord knows Diana learned from them.

I like Diana Damrau. My most pleasurable experiences with her have been in French opera -- Manon, Pearl Fishers, Romeo et Juliette. Less so with bel canto. Mr Plotkin has a good laugh about Sutherland's style of performing. And it's true, she just stood there. (PS, Sutherland never sang Thais). A very interesting interview.

If there are any linguists watching this, they must be like myself, quenching at his desecration of the English language with the use of uhm; English is my second language, and yet i never found the need to used it. I find that a person using this idiom looses all credibility, and i just don't want to listen to what they have to say.

Plotking doesn't know when to shut up. Josephine Veasey was the Adalgisa in the Norma at the Théâtre Antique d’Orange in 1974. He makes up things as he goes. He loves to interject anecdotes in which he is the star. He tells every guest he follows them from city to city. "I sang ....... in Mars," -I was there! Like Figaro he's everywhere. On the good side, he is a Democrat.

She is typical of the PR spun modern opera singer. An all round good singer, musician and an adequate voice BUT very little individuality (unless one counts her phrenetic acting) and not by any means a great singer: shrill high notes, bumpy coloratura, weak trill. It's one of the great mysteries why she is considered a suitable singer of the bel canto/French romantic roles. And before anyone asks, "yes" I have heard her several times in her major roles at Covent Garden. I think she is better in German roles.

Saludos cordiales. ❤❤❤❤
