The thing with diesel engines is that their speed will stop increasing once the max power and drag meet. Steam however will still abide by these rules but because their power gets stronger to a certain degree thanks to the pressure of steam it can go faster.
Thank you for the input, Brougham Gamer. I wonder how fast an Alco PA/PB A-B-A set could actually go... I guess the speed would be similar to EMD E7 which was 85mph according to Wiki. Controlling a steam engine requires good teamwork between the engineer and fireman. Compared to the steam engine, diesel locomotive could be controlled by one single man. : )
@@Jones3DModelingClub true. I question in all that time why they never experimented much with a system to put coal in the firebox without a fireman. The UP did it quite well with their roster.
impressive im not that surprised the mighty Hudson beat it out in speed but sadly the Alco PA beats the Hudson in terms of cost effective maintenance/operation cost and part inter-changeability. a dark and sad time for rail enthusiasts who love steam though.
Diesel locomotives maximum speed was limited by their gearing, rather than their maximum power. Evidently, the Alco PA’s used in this simulation had 79mph maximum speed gearing. Gearing with that low a maximum speed rating would typically be used in locomotives used for freight service. Passenger service locomotives would have gearing of around 110mph. If these locomotives didnt have this artificial speed limit, they would have left that J3 Hudson for dead. An A-B-A Alco set had 6,000 horsepower, compared to about 4,000 horsepower with the Hudson. A Niagara would be a more fair comparison with the 3 unit Alco PA set.
I wish I could, but the Empire State Express is not available in this game. IMO the Empire State Express is one of the best Steam-streamliner ever built.

Who says Diesel engines are better than Steam engines.
Their designers, the politicians and us fans.
If you could find the dlc for it i would love to see the t1 vs a Japanese shinkansen
Alco: Iam inevitable!
Hudson: I’m about to end this man’s whole career!
Why does the Hudson sound like Pere Marquette 1225?
how did you get the 20th century reskin on the coaches
The J3a Dreyfuss Hudson retains the title while the Alco P-A never got the title.
Hey make a video just the empire state express please ... This train is so difficult found video about it ... Please make one that train ...

Fantastic american steam locomotive!
@Minecraft Farlands dude he didn't say about speed -_-
Well wait where is the actual alco pa. That link goes to wiki...
Cant you give the steam engine a head start although diesels are in modern age
Did you know that my RUclips picture is a streamlined J3a.
