My mother died on an early spring morning I left her and when I stepped out of my car a blackbird was singing his heart out It was such a beautiful thing to hear.it was like he was singing for her. She loved nature and taught me to love it too - so it was such a natural , simple and lovely way to honour her . I hope she heard him too .
Bless, Something black birds do what others birds don't part from the Robin, when they sing it gives us that warm feeling & we have a part of the world just like them...
My Uncle chose to have some woodland birdsong playing while people were taking their places before his funeral. Just amazing, and better than any human nade music in those circumstances.
I befriended a male blackbird, and he visited me multiple times daily for food for the last few years(apart from their winter migration). He would bring his mate and chicks, hop up to the window, and get my attention by singing his song. This year he disappeared so early(late June) without reason, and his mate is still around. I fear he has died. The days sound so empty without hearing his song. Miss it a lot. It’s sad hearing other blackbirds in the distance and not one of them is singing my guy’s distinctive song. Thanks for the video, it was nice to hear a blackbird singing loudly once again :)
@@romainbocquet no, sadly, he never returned 😭 his mate(who I named Raisin) still came to visit me every day. Then earlier this year, Raisin was killed in front of me by a neighbour’s cat. They are extremely musical! Been fascinated for all my life. I once listened for about 30 minutes+ to just one blackbird, it already surprised me how different the tune sounded to what i hear normally, guess it was a playful blackbird, it was so articulate, emotive, melodic and rhythmic and never repeated a single phrase exactly like the one before, it was like an amazing sonata. I think their songs depend much on the time of day and possibly time of year too, also region and of course the bird itself im now studying it to learn and emulate on instruments
Nothing much touches the Black Bird singing in the morning, one of our true treasures of hearing this wonderful bird that graces our green and pleasant land.
Thanks so much for posting this. I never imagined being able to see a Blackbird singing so close; amazing to hear the complexity of the song and the quieter parts of the song too, never noticed those little chirps before. Very beautiful, and very humbling too.
For a long time there was a blackbird and Robin used to come into my garden together every day to the bird bath. It was maybe 30 years ago..best friends.
Love, love, love it!! I often used to sit at my bedroom window and just absorb a glorious blackbird's call, so relaxing, so heavenly. Nature is truly beautiful 🌷
I love when the song of a blackbird wakes me up, during summertime, at 4 am. I know is stupid o'clock, but still nice. Everything else is silent except its voice and is so relaxing.
Oh thank you for that call of nature. I do so miss the gardens of England and feeding birds in the garden. This recording makes me feel that I am back in UK in my old garden and not here retired in Cyprus.
J Taylor, sorry for your loss. My mum and dad, retired after working hard all their life, sat in the garden listening to the blackbirds. Mum especially loved hearing these beautiful birds. Mum and Dad gone now so it's down to me. I get the same pleasure
This is wonderful footage and I could listen to him (or her) singing all day long :) I think many, many people have forgotten about the beauty of mother nature...
A beautiful blackbird lives nearby my house. There are many here, but this one is special. We watched this happen two times: he lands on a specific street lamp, and sings for minutes straight. It's a beautiful show.
I NEVER get bored of hearing them. Everyone of them has its own repertoire. But above it all, behind the perfect control of notes (time and pitch), listen how easily they master the psychological climates they create with that : as noodles said they can sound comical, or reproachful thanks to other tone choices, or even sometimes dreamful, or polyphonically real eery (listen at 2:19 !!) or admirative, just like if they were whistling at a girl in the street... very human without the shadow of a doubt indeed.
I miss the song of the Blackbird , I live in West Australia but each visit home to Ireland brings me joy to listen to the evening song of the Blackbird.
This blackbird deserves an oscar, when i hear them sing i think we are coming out of winter and leaving the early dark evening behind and soon will be enjoying the sun on my face with an early evening walk ,after being stuck at work all day
The blackbird evening chorus reminds me of summer evenings as a child. I love the blackbird song and always stop to listen when I hear them. Such a distinctive and beautiful song.

Every phrase different. Beautiful. My favourite time of day, late afternoon in spring, sitting on my patio with a glass of wine and listening to this wonder of nature.
Did you notice that blackies always choose the highest place of the neighbourhood to perform their musical act : the maestro proudly stands on TV antennas, or on the top corner of a roof... and they start their musical frenzy. They make no mistake about it : the Blackbird is a star and it knows that perfectly ! (because those birdies are soooo smart !) -
Awesome - just what I need for training the young female blackbird we've been caring for since we rescued her from a busy road. :) Thank you for posting this!
When i was in Elementary school my mom and I where at the park when we came across one of these babies, it had fallen off its nest and we had no idea where it was. We decided to take it home since it wouldn't survive on the ground for long. We gave it a little bath and removed its fleas which it was full of. Then we got a regular canary cage and put it in there. We named him Dino and we had him for about 3-4 years before he escaped. He was an awesome bird, we'd let him fly inside the house freely, even though he shat all over the place. One day I got back from my vacation and his cage was outside. I opened the gate to try and grab and pet him and he slipped out and flew away instantly. Although I can't be sure if it was him, we'd see a blackbird stop by at our balcony from time to time the following years.

Fantastic close-up of a beautiful bird. Like an earlier comment suggested, you can literally see the blackbird in the video making up his mind what to sing next.
Wow what an angle. Any closer I may be in its gullet! You really get a sense of this birds awareness from its eye movements captured so incredibly by this film. Great work. Never get bored from hearing the Blackbird. A reliable alarm clock and much kinder on the ears than the mechanical type, a little early admittedly, but forgiven as its so beautiful. Thanks for filming.

For years my grandma has tended to this family of blackbirds who live mainly in a set of trees 80m or so across a field in a park- as many as 6-8 can turn up at once (however I believe there could be up to at least 16-20, not to mention the sparrows, starlings, blue tits, robins etc) They will form a line on the garden fence looking into the back bay window in the extension. Every morning she would leave a bowl of seed and a mix of sultanas for them to snack but as always this would be gone after a couple hours- thanks to pigeons mainly. On warm days when the back door is open to, certain ones will come into or onto the bottom frame part of the door looking for a snack. From this door you could stand and watch them feed with them barely 10ft away- all fighting and singing away. Whenever one sang nearby me, I used to imitate its song. I remember once, one was annoyed, it would come down, close to me, and sing over me as if to say "Knock it off. You can't beat the real thing!"
During the summer in my back yard, we have so many Magpies living in the trees, and they fight alot lol, but Robins and Sparrows live in the bushes and Blackbirds sing to each other together on top

thanks so much - this a just wonderful. watching the bird as he sings and watches around him. i didn't realize that blackbirds had such a lovely song and all the little chirps :}
Take it, over the years, you've all noticed how their next line always seems to come in on time, and how sometimes, they'll repeat something note perfect, almost human, even. Sometimes, they'll stick in a note at the end of their line, so at odds with the phrase, it can sound comical.
Conor Walker I'm wondering if they are territorial, I don't know. All I can say is that Blackbird season is sadly ending here in the west of Scotland. March to June, though I have heard them late July, 2001. I wonder why they quieten off? Or maybe they go back to Scandinavia.
it reminds me of a poem written by Theophile Gautier.and it says: c'est un merle, chanteur credule, qui reve soleil et module l'hymne d'avril en fevrier. it says that it starts signing in February, when it dreams of sunshine, and pretends that it is April. Love it when it comes back every year.
I'd love to know what stories or information is being shared in their songs, wouldn't you?! Even if it's bad, wouldn't that be a wake-up call to us to stop poisoning the planet's air and oceans with plastics and oil?!
