    This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I wanted to try making something in the style of Ashley Wood's work on MGS: Peace Walker, so this will come in handy as a reference. Thanks for making this helpful resource!

    It's simplier to keep the character separated from background elements

    • @DamianWampler
      @DamianWampler  7 лет назад +3

      Yes but you would have to put in your contract with your artist that they draw the elements separately. And that will cost more money.

    • @bloyomind1on1
      @bloyomind1on1 5 лет назад

      @@DamianWampler so it costs more money just for them to put it in another layer?

    • @DamianWampler
      @DamianWampler  5 лет назад +3

      Geryalvi Batista It really depends on what contract you signed with your artist because if your artist says “sure no problem I’ll draw foregrounds and backgrounds and separate layers for free” then it’s great and it’s wonderful for you, but it does take more time and your artist might charge you more.

      @@DamianWampler oh, I see. Yeah that makes sense. So how could I find comic panels like that for me to practice? Any places or ways you'd recommend?

    • @DamianWampler
      @DamianWampler  5 лет назад +1

      @@bloyomind1on1 Good question! There are very few that will have the background cut out. But I would go to Facebook and join some of the comic creator groups - there are lots. CONNECTING COMIC BOOK WRITERS AND ARTISTS has 29,000 members. ICC is good too. Ask an artist if you can borrow a panel in exchange for posting your animation on RUclips. That's better than taking comic pages from the internet which you can do in a pinch but never never publish that animation without permission. If you don't have any luck I can send you a panel!

    Wait, I’m just wondering
    How do u animate something if it has an object behind the character
    For example, the character is infront of the table and the table has differing shadings
    What do u do and how do u animate fog and mist?

    • @DamianWampler
      @DamianWampler  5 лет назад +1

      Lombaxlover 123 That’s a really good question. In Photoshop everything is in layers so you can put the characters in front of the table and animate everything separately. animating smoke and fog would be very difficult so I would recommend that you use real fog or smoke stock video that’s on a black background. You can then change the blend mode and make the black background disappear. You can animate shadows or adjustment layers if you want to change the shading.

    • @lombaxlover1234
      @lombaxlover1234 5 лет назад +1

      Damian Wampler I don’t really use photoshop for animating, I use sony Vegas
      What id like to do is cut the characters from the background and objects that I’d like to move and then fill the spaces in
      I cant really do that but I was wondering maybe you could make a tutorial or maybe you could help me out cutting them out? I’m making a comic dub series and I want it to be a motion comic
      Would you be interested in helping me?

    • @DamianWampler
      @DamianWampler  5 лет назад

      @@lombaxlover1234 So your're saying that you have panels and you need to cut out the characters and fill in the background. This can only be done with Photoshop as far as I know. There are some apps for iPhone and android that also cut out people from photos and fill in the background, but I'm not sure that you'll get what you need from that. I can certainly do a tutorial about filling in the background in Photoshop. This is the difficult part for everyone. You can also pay people to do it!

    • @DamianWampler
      @DamianWampler  5 лет назад

      @@lombaxlover1234 Are you the artist? Making basic animations in After Effects and even apps like Werble is easy. If you can get the characters onto transparent layers then it's possible. Don't give up! The app called Adobe Mix and many others can remove backgrounds. Then, try using solid color backgrounds instead of trying to fill the holes in an existing background.

    • @DamianWampler
      @DamianWampler  5 лет назад

      If you want to make something similar on a phone, try making clips in Werble and then putting them together in a video editor. Werble can handle transparent layers, so you can do some complex stuff.

      Ethan Daigle hey, let me know exactly where the issue is. Are you in Photoshop? Most often, cut doesn’t work because you are in the wrong layer. Maybe you are on a transparent part of a letter. Or you need command x.

    Why not draw the character in a different layer to begin with?

    • @DamianWampler
      @DamianWampler  5 лет назад +2

      Your artist would need to be willing to do that from the early stages of project development. It means more work and more money. So if you put it in the contract then yes you can have them put the character on a different layer.
