"That's a FAKE Bible" Caller Cries While Struggling to Defend Beliefs | Matt Dillahunty & Nick Fish
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 сен 2024
- Original Episode Here:
An independent fundamental Baptist caller, Virginia, asks Matt Dillahunty and Nick Fish why they are atheists. Matt explains he left his faith after finding the arguments and evidence unconvincing. Virginia insists the Bible's depiction of history, like the flood, proves Christianity. Matt challenges her to provide objective evidence for the Bible's supernatural claims, like the zombies in Matthew's gospel. The exchange grows contentious as Virginia fails to directly provide such evidence, eventually leaving the call. Matt expresses frustration with believers confidently asserting moral superiority while lacking justification for their beliefs.

Saying, “People will scoff at me for what I believe” isn’t a prophecy, it’s an invitation. Hell, it’s practically a command.
The Heaven's Gate cult leader in the 90s said something similar in one of his videos before the mass suicide, like "Oh I know some people will say we're crazy." Imagine being impressed with that as a prediction.
It's also not a prophecy, it's just common sense. Everything is scoffed at by someone.

When you're a kid, they give you a puzzle in a box with a picture of a teddy bear. When you put the puzzle together, it's a monster, but by then you're already scared, so you can't leave and start giving people little boxes with the picture of a teddy bear on them.

Objectively true, but yet many believers will still deny they were born atheist. Tell a believer they were born an atheist and you might hear something like "I was born the child of Christ", or any host of other dumb replies.
@@vodking Also objectively true. That is the danger of religion, it poisons the mind.
Well, it depends really. A baby is born "implicitly" Atheist because it lacks a belief in a god, but the same can be said of a rock or a pencil so it doesn't really mean all that much.

When asked to present evidence they seem to be trained to slither like a snake and skip the question, avoid the topic, and then act emotional when not being allowed to do that.
Every Christian meet up with a known speaker they tell their testimony.
She says she doesn't believe all the claims in the Bible. So what's the point of believing any of it? And how does she know for sure which parts are real and which parts she doesn't have to believe? The whole book (that she keeps using as evidence) is the entire basis of her religion. Why dismiss any part of it? And if the Bible itself is the evidence she keeps claiming it proves her belief is real, how dare she dismiss any part of it? If the Bible is proof, wouldn't the whole thing be true? None of it makes sense.

People say that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, but that's not true always. Absence of evidence IS evidence of absence when evidence is highly expected to be found.
Years and years of watching this show and literally not one single caller was able to provide actual evidence that wasn't debunked 4 thousand times by 2012.
Absence of evidence is evidence against the statement that evidence is present, basically.
Like absence of cookies is evidence against the statement that there are still plenty of cookies in the jar.
I repeated your second paragraph not two days ago....lol
Absence of evidence is quite often evidence of absence. It amazes me that people claim you can't prove a negative. As soon as you start attributing something properties, it becomes falsifiable if it is found that something with the claimed properties cannot or does not exist.
@@derkyloswhen you refute biblical points. God flooded the earth, but there was no global flood, so a god that flooded the entire earth does not exist.
When your husband has to try and bail you out, you've lost the debate. It is truly unfortunate that some people cannot understand the meaning of words.
I can't believe you put your husband on, Virginia. That is so cringe.
The sad thing is that that husband is supposed to be the " head of the woman", yet he knows as much/little as Virginia.
@@MeAndTheBoys_ I don't know if that's sad so much as how reality generally works out. Men writing some books that say men are the bestest somehow did not have the effect of transforming men into the bestest.

That was the dumbest caller ever. Callers that cry that Matt was angry or mean are people that have already lost the argument. Callers like that are why so many people don't believe. These callers help make more atheists.
Matt slowly transforming into a cuddly Santa 😂
The way Matt elegantly cusses out callers who don’t listen to the asked questions should be studied.
What an idiotic comment.
I notice a theme that these callers always try to support the new testament by saying that things in it were predicted in the old testament, thousands of years previous. I have to think that would be a viable argument if prior to the writing of the new testament that no one had never read the old. When the script writers for Godfather 2 wrote the script, pretty sure that it lines up with the original Godfather script. But never heard anyone claim that Godfather 1 predicted the future.
As if no one else but JK Rowlings could write the next series of Harry Potter books if she died today. Write a new series based off the old ones and still make them flow together and even use some random event or one of the attempted prophecies one of the kids made in divination class come true in the new series.
@@danielessex2162and harry potter isnt special. there's a dozen books with 80% of the themes in each.
Watching Nick during that debacle was awesome!! 😂
Btw, I grew up AoG, Pentecostal, Southern Baptist…I’m pretty much where you’re at. Although, there’s a side of me that I’d call spiritual. But religion?? 🤮
Oh yeah, I’m gay, too. Ask me how long it took me to deprogram my brain to the point where I could accept it myself. I’m 53 now. In a 14 year relationship with an awesome guy and couldn’t be happier (well, if I could sleep, but that’s another story). My mom, 85 years old and a believer, is an AMAZING lady and would even have put that caller in her place. Although not formally educated…she’s the smartest lady I know and she’s the one who taught me to be a critical thinker and to question things. Great channel guys! It’s not about NOT believing …it’s about questioning! 🤙🏼
Ah yes, the backup dancer 🤣
It hurts my heart, sometimes, when I see people genuinely believing and when presented with a rational discourse about _why_ they believe, they come across as completely outclassed in their ability to rationalize. Virginia had to face the fact that while she felt confident of her belief system up until the moment of her call being taken, she had to quickly realize she was not armed or prepared enough to question the individuals who have spent a *LOT* of time thinking specifically about this. Sad.
I think at 10:30 Matt is mixing up Henry VIII and James VI. James was married once (to Anne of Denmark) and never divorced. Henry VIII did commission an English language bible in 1535 (called the Great Bible) to be used as the official text in his newly created Church of England. The King James bible was the third English translation commissioned in 1604 and published in 1611, however it is widely believed this translation was based on the 1560 Geneva Bible and not Henry's Great Bible. So saying the KJV was written "by a king to justify his divorces" is not factually correct. I suppose Matt's biblical knowledge is occasionally going to wrong. Or am I wrong?
Neither Virginia nor her backup dancer know the Bible even half as well as Matt, and this call is evidence of that.
"My evidence is the evidence that it exists and people wrote it and if they wrote it then it's obviously true, and I know that because it's true because it says so because it was written to say that." ~For the bible tells me so logic 101
I don't know why Matt does this to himself. I think he's better off debating great minds. This can't be good for his mental health...
He loves trashing people. And you love watching it.

Bahaha, the ol tag team! I knew I recognized Virginia!
I thought he took over because Matt was about to make her cry or something lmao.

It's filed under S for stupidity.
15:50 Love Matt. 😂😂😂
The dude at the end trying and failing to white knight the situation was hilarious.
Another case of "its true because the book says so...
But not YOUR bible, thats a fake one." 😂😂
It seems most of these people have absolutely no idea what evidence is and how to present it. I'm with you Matt.
Great show....truly I hope she takes some time to reflect.
Why do people keep calling in and saying the same things with the same responses. Do they not watch a few episodes as research or do they have so much pride they think they are better than every other caller?
No, most callers don’t listen to atheist programs very often, I don’t think.
Because Theists don't have New Arguments. Same old ones from who knows how long ago.
If people who are at teh top of their game, bonified theologians (supposedly) cant come up with new ideas that dont boil down to 'just dont think about it and bend over so Jesus can fill you with his creamy white love', why would you think that random burk dejure would?
@hegyak They been giving this half assed responses since they started the first temple.
Some of it's probably scripted. Else, you're right, it only takes one time listening to the show or AXP to realize what's going to be said. I still get a kick out of Matt pretending his ego is being challenged even if they do pay callers to troll.
What's sad is that she actually THINKS what she's claiming is true. Same as I used to. The Churches HAVE to spread these lies so that people will believe the stories. I really wish more people would stop and actually examine why they think the Bible is accurate.... People just don't know
I admire Matt’s intellect and his opinion on the BS on religion and claims. However, he’s a little too much sometimes which is why I don’t really watch him as much anymore
All the people in the comments complaining about Matt puzzle me. He doesn't get upset until way late when the caller continues to waste time (remember folks, there's an audience) on a timed show.
I agree. It might feel bad because, well, we’re conditioned to feel like angry emotions are bad.
We might feel bad because he swears, because we’re taught swearing is bad.
But the only time I’ve seen him, or other hosts, get upset, is when somebody begins obviously waisting time, being belligerent, etc.
Oh Virginia, there is no Santa Clause.
I have said it before. I will say it again. These callers are on a mission to outdo each other's stupidity.
You will say it many more times, because you're a sadist, just like everyone else who loves this show.
she has never considered seriously anything regarding her religion. she needs training in critical reasoning and also some relevant history study apart from her scriptural bible adventures and tribal mythology.
Circular reasoning is so painfull to hear.
Because you have no meaningful way to retort
I have a piece of paper that says she owes me 1m dollars, verifiable, I have 100 witnesses. Must be true.
Nick, I worked a radio morning show host, and I'd like to recommend working on eliminating "ya know." It's a crutch. You'll thank me for it later. I enjoy this show immensely!
I’m not saying this to Nick, but people need to get rid of um.
Or you could just stop trying to police how people speak.
The label 'Christian Nationalism' is an oxymoron in itself.
By definition Christianity is inclusive; by definition Nationalism is exclusive. These simple facts seem to elude those that adhere to this ludicrous dogma. But, it's never pointed out, or not that I've seen.
This is one of the best calls ever. She starts out sounding so proper and innocent and sweet. As her beliefs and arguments get broken down you can slowly see her getting annoyed then angry then cry. This is a master class
I'm not sure it makes sense to ask "why do you choose not to believe"... or "why do you choose to believe." The question assumes that belief is a matter of choice. I don't think it is, or even that it should be.
So the point is: there is a book written by people that claims to be true and predicts that some people will reject it, and that is proof that the book is true. How on earth is it possible for this circular reasoning to convince anyone?
I could write a book here and now that contains the exact same approach and it would be just as true as the Bible. That is, not at all.
Exactly like every single author who gets a book published can be sure that there will be people who reject his book.
Ooh I've never heard the "walk and chew gum" line! Very nice turn of phrase.
I'm loving Nick's expression throughout this.
I'd warrant that the overwhelming majority of people who insist that the KJV Bible is the "one true Bible" have taken _that_ assertion on faith, just as they've taken its contents.
They often cite the "God doesn't like gays" passages, with no understanding of what King James got up to in the bedroom! 😉😉
I was born atheist. I didn't believe in any god until I was TOLD to, at a too young age, by a fallible human being who believes because HE was told by another fallible human being etc. etc.

Nothing has made me rear back more than when she started going "The old testament matches with the new testament, it all lines up perfectly, there are no contradictions in it..."
I'm not even a part of this call and I verbally went "Apapapap! Hutchuchuchu! Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!"
