Trump complimenting DeepSeek & China, and charging US companies to work harder is actually in line with his personality. He went back to his "Apprentice" persona, wherein he likes to pit one group of employees against another group. He eventually will have to go back to his MAGA persona and may ban DeepSeek and do other Biden-like actions.

From the Chinese? I think we all want the same things. Peace, prosperity, and fair trade. Openness and empathy might blossom into goodwill? @@justlc7You have an inherent anti-Chinese sentiment throughout American society, that is endemic and fueled further by the politics the US is driving on a bi-partisan basis, brain-washing people (many of them uninformed, have low IQ/EQ, are deep down hegemonic-really believe the US is ”exceptional”) and generally making the environment, not so conducive for Asians (especially Chinese) to want to even consider persuing a life in America. This is all besides the broken society the US has become. China is not perfect but life is continually improving and opportunities are there for the Top talents, especially in such a sector as Ai development. So I wouldn’t jump to conclusions….stay humble and think about the world, not the typical zero-sum thinking your statement alludes to.

The world over-reacting to the Deepseek LLM is so silly!! 😆 I've been using Deepseek for over a year already and I've watched it grow more capable over that time. So when they dropped R1, it was just another nice upgrade in it's reasoning and coding. Since the inception of LLMs 4 years back, I've never paid a single dime in building my apps. If Deepseek had stemmed from some other country e.g Sweden, there wouldn't be nearly as much speculation and accusation going on.

Anti-China/Chinese actually started by Chinese from Taiwan, who went after Americans they couldn't compete such as I, a Chinese American woman engineer since the 1990s. But tech is a misogyntic and white supremacy industry. So attacks only worked on women engineers of color such as I. Later partook by Indians from South Asia and people from Indo China on attacking Chinese/China, as their population grew via H1B.
So one might wonder why such massive hiring of H1Bs from Asia? Well, we, Chinese American women engineers such as I excel in tech jobs, so Americans couldn't find Asia on a map, decided that if Chinese American women engineers are so good in tech jobs, Chinese/Asian males must be better as it is believed that women are not wired to understand STEM, as part of gaslighting to keep women and minorities down

The hype in AI, pre-DeepSeek, can sometimes feel like the emperor’s new clothes-buzzwords, overblown promises, or exaggerated capabilities can create an illusion of groundbreaking advancements, even when the actual substance may not measure up. However, just as in the story, there are often those who point out the gaps or limitations. The challenge lies in distinguishing genuine innovation from empty hype, as the true value of AI lies in its practical, impactful applications-not just the spectacle. When billions are being pumped in, the pressure to deliver, or at least appear to deliver, can lead to a cycle of overpromises. Investors chase the “next big thing,” and startups or companies might exaggerate capabilities to secure funding. This creates an ecosystem where hype sometimes overshadows real progress, and the “new clothes” are sold before they even exist. It’s not to say there isn’t meaningful work being done, but the gap between marketing and reality can grow wider when so much money is at stake.

If language models are used to automate the construction of knowledge graphs from unstructured input such as conversations, there need to be benchmarks for accuracy, coherence, and consistency of the constructed databases; and, measures of the latency and speed of output. The models should also be tested after being compiled to optimize the performance for specific hardware platforms such as smartphones.

It is really not that hard to understand why Chinese AI like DeepSeek is a lot cheaper, and more effective, at least, in the Chinese language domain. Chinese researchers and engineers focus on model and logic backed up by vast amounts of data collected by many big companies like Tencent. Alibaba, Xiaomi, etc, while the U.S. counterparts rely heavily on chips capacity and capabilities for computing. There is far more human intelligence involved in DeepSeek than ChatGPT. Human intelligence is a lot cheaper and efficient and effective than hardware. The Western media pretend not to understand this simple fact because they don’t know how to compete with China and they don’t know how to deal with the consequences in the human intelligence domain. No country has more engineers than China, and no country is better in AI applications in all walks of life than China today. The robots dancing in the Spring Festival Gala on Chinese TV this Chinese New Year are extremely revealing about China’s AI advancement and manufacturing capabilities. Cooperation with China is the only viable option for the U.S., so that the U.S. would know a lot more about what China is doing, and vice versa, for a better world.
