Hey everyone! I went over the Opal app pretty quick in this video, but I plan on doing another one this week showing everything the app can do. It was just too much to get in this one video which was already going a bit long, so keep an eye out for that if you're looking for more details ✌
Hmm... The Elgato Facecam from other videos definitely seems to have better video quality with better software features than the Opal. The zoom quality on this also looks subpar for 1080p tbh. Not much better than my built-in work laptop. Hopefully they make significant improvements on their software in the near future.
In all honesty, for $300 (and $4 a month in the future) that video quality is kind of shocking. You could buy a mirrorless camera, for around same price, which can be read as a webcam, and get vastly better quality. But I personally use the Elgato Facecam, which is vastly cheaper, and it's superb. You have full control of ISO, shutter speed, white balance and more via their suit. It's video quality is almost akin to a mirrorless device, and vastly out performs this one. Just my thoughts.
Based on what I saw in your video, the quality doesn’t impress me at all. That plus it’s scarcity and possible software subscription, makes it a pass for me.
Nice Review! I really like the outside look and design but the company culture is very off putting and the $4.00 a month software charge is a deal breaker. Actually you nailed it on the head just price gouging.
Thanks for the review, I just received my invite today after months. It's really not that I need one as I do use a DSLR but wanted to have the option. It's totally not worth the wait, nor on par with the price which is why I'm passing. I would have pulled the trigger and used it as a B camera but don't want to reward what there doing. Thanks again for the review
I got one of these on an early invite (so no $4pm for software) - not cheap but it has great build quality and software working very well for me. And it worked straight out of the box with no faffing etc. So not for everyone I know, but way cheaper than a full on DLSR camera and way better quality than the webcam in my MacBook. And as my day-to-day Mac Studio has no webcam (!) then this saves booting up a laptop etc.
I bought a Lumina camera and TBH it's better than the one you're reviewing here in just about every category you mentioned. Would LOVE to see your review of it! (I'm not affiliated in any way, just a happy customer.)
Sorry but this ain't gonna do well, and it is indeed a tough sell. Nothing to write home about. It would be great if this was $150 or so, but holy crap, for $300, this is shockingly bad, especially audio quality.
Looks really poor and no shallow depth of field, seems like a total waste of money. I got a cheap second hand Fuji X-T3 with a Viltrox 23mm lens and the video looks phenomenal - this one seems worse than an iPhone…
The "only 48 hour coupon code" is just marketing. I have an invite and it's still active after a week (as of this comment).

Thank you for this in-depth review. This is RUclips at its best 👌

Hype. Lifecam Studio 1080p still beats it.
Great video! Unrelated to the product - where did you get that Mac wallpaper? and can we get a full res copy? :)
that iphone 7 looked incredible damn
I’ve wondered about this, but a subscription and the software isn’t reliable? Seems like a hard no.
soon, toilet seats will require subscription to be used in your home. it is crazy.
Can I understand why you wouldn’t just use the camera you use for your youtube videos for your zoom calls?
Does this camera work with FaceTime ?
Extremely well done review
Does the Opal C1 work on any MacBook? Or is it only on certain MacBooks?

Thanks very much, very helpful and well done!
the opal makes you look pale like you haven't seen the sun for a few years
Just got an invite.. I’ll pass
A recent iPhone as webcam using continuity camera or Camo Studio will be vastly superior to this thing.
The webcams with the macbooks looked better. Less glare

You are wrong with the microphone quality. I think it is very good for a webcam. Of course you can't compare it to a shure!
Not impressed by the webcam.
Apple just announced that you can use your iphone as webcam, which is a HUGE upgrade over any webcam.

Dim gang checking in 😅
Insta 360 Link just put this company out of business
Not as good as the Logi web cams. Overpriced hype.
I feel like the AverMedia 513, is WAY better, at $160. That or the Logitech Brio for a few buckaroos more.
Logitech Bro 4K is so Bad I’d you use it with MS Teams.
It seems lousy with a slow frame rate. I don't get it. I have the Facecam and that pic is much better.
No thanks!
Wasn’t impressed with the camera 🎥

I would never buy it.
@abettercomputer I have an XDR and will film b-roll for you anytime
