I had 2 sniper brothers in VC, a younger one and an older one trying to protect him.
They both got wounded in a difficult mission and the older brother died while the younger brother gained a facial wound and a personality change...
its definitely a good strategy game, didnt know they had an anime.

Regarding the "Light Tank", I think the "in universe reason" of its popularity is also its flexibility: the 75mm gun can be swapped for a heavy flamethrower or four autocannons.

Gallia is Belgium and the Low Countries, The Atlantic Federation, is French/Britain. The Empire is basically the Germans and everything in the East.

@@raithnor6007 Gallia is not really the low countries, only partly inspired by them. the empire and and federation are already at war, and the empire invades gallia for mineral resources not to outflank the federation's defenses. and their culture is heavily influenced by germans and the nordics. Gallia also has mountains. they also hold and repluse the invasion.
they are an amalgamation, and strategically are more like Norway (neutral invaded due to resource needs) than Belgium and the low countries.

Teenagers on the frontline is actually properly have a reason to be there in VH for Gallia. It's small country that have very limited supply of solders, and the squad in the story is actually a militia, people who volonteered to go and defend the country. This type of stuff have tons of historical precedence in the real WW2, so i don't see it as a problem.

It's not really a valid criticism of VC2 anyways. The vast majority of the characters in the game and in the anime series based on it are in their 20s with some getting up to early 30s. There's like 6 or 7 total characters in the game that are under 18 or in their 40s out of a over strength platoon-sized force. Dude should have paid better attention to character bios. Would have actually helped him get through the game if he did play it since there's info in the character bios that link to game mechanics.
He also totally failed to the address the actual problem of most Gallian tanks. The crew numbers. Edelweiss especially. Two-man crew for a tank that should have 4 or 5 means the entire Edelweiss crew is severely overworked. And in case of Welkin's unit especially, you have Welkin not only trying to coordinate his own tank with insufficient crew, but he's trying to coordinate supporting infantry as well. There's no indication that the light tanks were any better crewed, at least not the one in Welkin's unit. Hopefully the standing Gallian army was a bit smarter about crew numbers.

The glowing radiator not only has lore reasons for existing but also a part of the gameplay as you can deal heavy damage or outright destroy a tank in a single shot if that part is targeted. It adds a bit of strategy in the game where you can not only try to maneuver around enemy tanks, but also make sure the enemy does not do the same to the Edelweiss.

Kaiser Willy was always a bit of an ass, but while his empire was young compared to the Russian Empire and that of the UK (which technically wasn’t even an empire until 1876) he considered himself the strongest and so naturally the leader in Europe. But there was one problem - they were in fact one big family and upon Victoria’s death the leader of the family was King Edward VII, not Wilhelm. So imagine being the German Emperor but having to open the door for your mere King of England uncle, or being able to sit only when he sits. The jealousy was intense. Not helped by the fact that his mother was en English princess and his ministers constantly whispered into his ear that she couldn’t be trusted. Willy was not a happy guy despite being one of the three or four most powerful men in the world.

The Edelweiss is a Panzer III and Tiger II Mashup. With the turret being a Tiger II Early/Late Mashup. So the front/sides of the turret look very Early Tiger II with more rounded bits, and the back being literally a late war Tiger II turret back hatch included. The Hull heavily reminds me of a Panzer III though up until later in the game when you upgrade the Edelweiss later in the game it gets a VERY Tiger II like Hull, with sloped rear/side armor, and the rounded bit takes over the entire front no more box in short.
The Nameless from VC3 basically takes the Late War Edwelweiss Retrofit and changes the gun mantle to look more like a early StuGIII Mantle. But it's basically nearly identical to the late war Edwelweiss outside of that. As a result with the gun mantle change though the front of the turret on the Nameless is even MORE like a early Tiger II turret. lol

Late but to try to give in lore reason for the lot of school age characters in VC 1 at least is because that game focuses on the Gallian Militia who are made up of civilian volunteers and trainees.
Gallia has two militaries. There is their proper national army which still has some feudalistic tradition in that it seems most of the higher ups are people of nobility and are full time soldiers and there is the Militia which are entirely made of commoners and the aforementioned civilian volunteers.
During the first European War, Gallia was then too invaded by the Empire and annexed, but they fought and won their independence again. After EW1 they then started the universal conscription plan, and all schools and universities have to give military training. Gallia is a small Principality bordered by two economic and military giants who will want to exploit them for vast natural wealth of Ragnite. One of them have tried twice openly while it seems like Federation is trying espionage.
It's really a move desperation on their part to have every person who can use a weapon be on the battlefield to defend their country and way of life

Most of the characters in the game are in their 20s. Dude didn't pay attention to character bios and just assumed most of them are basically kids with guns. You can count the under-18 AND the above 30 characters in VC2 on both hands and have fingers to spare when you're done. And that is while keeping in mind that by the end of the game, you can accumulate upwards of 40-50 characters. Both Gunther and Alicia are early-mid 20s as well. I feel that it's also often forgotten that Gunther is already a professional pre-war military officer as well. The Gallian military didn't decide to let some random civilian pick his own rank and take charge of a bunch of volunteers.

The Edelweis is mostly based on german designs.for real tanks the Tiger 2 and panzer 3 are the biggest influences. its running gear is almost identical to the panzer 3. and the internal shots are practically identical to tiger 2 model kits internals. its round Upper front plate is very french tho.
but the main inspiration for the turret seems to be the E-79, which is another fake tank (created for the game panzer front) (whose main inspirations were the tiger 2 and E-25)

Valkyria Chronicles is definitely peak moe anime military. But at least the tanks make sense in their roles as mobile defense, even if they're pretty basic in their design. Can't wait for part 2 with all the crazy Imperial multi-turreted designs and that one knockoff Sherman the Federation has.

I was able to play VC1 on the Switch when it’s on sale. It’s a lot of fun, although Gallia seems to be even wackier in its infantry standards. You can recruit a 10 year old girl to be one of the shock troopers, and she’s as deadly as the harden veterans.

Loved the video but wanted to say a few things.
From the concept art that ive dived into for their Imp cavalry design, the tank orginal was suppose to look like an extra derpy Sturmtiger. I still think the Edelwiess looks like a King Tiger based on the turret look from the sides but based on modern tanks, thats fair enough.
I do say that I hope you try and watch some videos online of Valkyria Chronicles of the other games, though. Not only do you see more armor in those games of the other nations, specifically Valkyria 4 for the Federation and some Imperials and then Valkyria 3 for the other Gallian tank you most certianly cover if i had to guess, but you also see the upgrades to those tanks. Gallian Light Tank can get either the short cannon, a flamethrower, or a 4-gun gatling similar to a Shilka. You also see a single appearance in Valkyria chronicles 1 game a APC used by the Federation dressed in Gallian colors.
All in all, i swear this isnt a comment to nitpick but i cannot stress the desire for you to try at least watching videos from anywhere you can find them on the game. Theres just a bit more detail and stuff to see that the anime, well, glosses over or doesnt show.. sadly Valkyria Chronicles 2-3 are still unavaible beyond Japan so the wiki for the Gallian tank from 3 is the best you get for it. But LP's and what not for 1 and 4 are all over.

@@prtfdc2 My understanding is that Valkyria 2 was developed pretty quickly on the heels of 1 turning out to be more successful than expected.
