    I have a Camp Chef grill that I haven't cleaned yet and this video was exactly what I needed. You didn't cover cleaning products that could be helpful but this covers the physical cleaning necessary. Thanks bud.

      Kyle Salow Add one more. Use a damp scotch brite pad to clean up the top part of the internal temp sensor. Only takes a second and this is what gives the computer all the information.

    Great video, but I have a couple of additional items for you to mention. I have been cooking with my DLX Pro model for just over 3 years without any problems. Lately I keep getting a "flame" out and it made my smoker worthless. I followed all the instructions in the manual that came with it and it only casually mentioned cleaning the grate that exits into the chimney. Make sure to clean that grate off regularly or the smoke won't be able to escape the grill and it will smother the flame. ALSO, a quick call to Camp Chef and a young lady told me to not only clean off the chimney grate, but to clean the temperature control arm also located inside the cooking grill area. It is located on the left side and it is about 10 inches long. Mine was so cruddy I had to scrape the gunk off it. Once down to the original silver color, the grill is working like new again!

    Thank you for your info and reply... suddenly my temp has been swinging wildly... like + or - 50 to 60 degrees and won't heat higher than about 250 degrees max. I've had the Camp Chef about 1 1/2 yrs and it was Great the first year... then about the end of the year (with regular cleanings about ever 5 to 10 cookings)... Augur Quit! I replaced the augur but that didn't fix it. customer support was very good and gave me the help I needed and I upgraded the Controller to the Dual Thermometer Controller... it worked great for about 4 cookings and then started this problem with temp.
    it will heat up to about 300 degrees hold that about 10 minutes then go down in temp to about 160 degrees... then up to about 250 degrees and back down to 120 and up 200 down to 120 up to 220 and so forth... I just received a new inside thermometer but have not installed it you... I've cleaned (like you showed, each time I've tried a new) I've cleaned the inside thermometer but the customer service suggested I clean the Chimney but not sure how to go about it.... the way it is made... sorry for the lengthy comment but I'm getting desperate... Grill Not Usable and now spent almost as much and new grill... kdb

      @scottnra  4 года назад

      I would hit up Customer service again. I can't see how your chimney could be so clogged as to cause this problem. No Way! People cook a lot on solid fuel grills and cookers all the time and never clean the chimney.
      Probably need to replace the controller. If you don't get a decent answer from the person on customer support, i'd politely ask for a supervisor.

      Did you ever get your problem solved? I have almost exactly the same problem on my Camp Chef. I had a fire in my CC and the auger motor was bad. Camp Chef sent me a new auger motor which now work fine but I can’t seem to get it past 255 degrees. If you had any success I’d be interested in what you found. Thanks.

    Just want to say you are a scholar and a gentleman for this video. Had no idea what I was doing. Also never put foil on the drop tray so it's absolutely caked with grease. My husband has his 2nd broken pellet stove. If he does not empty all pellets from the box after each use, the humidity in FL makes them wet. Very frustrating. Actually, he says they crumble and can become a cement. He is switching pellets, but the newest pellets he tried were worse. He uses his grill every weekend. This is not after non-use.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  3 года назад

      marybeth browder the grilling pellets are different than the heating ones for sure. A lot of humidity over time can still hurt them but not if you are using them up pretty regularly. I've never had a problem and VA summers get humid too.

The channel which right side of drip tray rests in and tube that goes from this channel to grease bucket must be cleaned. Gary Eyten I have not seen that one. I don't understand how the drip tray could guide the grease to the bucket with slots. If they are raised I guess it would work. Try it and see. They might be for air flow in which case yes. I'd still use the foil for easier clean up though.

    Hey Scott, thanks for the videos. Couple questions for you. Do you think the new Camp Chef SG is worth the extra $$$ over a SmokePro with Sear Box? How do you like the Slide and Grill feature? Does it work? Does the new drip pan with louvered slits get dirtier? Can you cover it with foil? If you have Slide and Grill, Sear Box, and GrillGrates is all that overkill? Looking to get into pellet grilling and value your advice. Thanks!

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  5 лет назад +1

      I don't have the new one so I'm not sure how to answer those specific questions. Seems to me if you use the slide & Grill thing, you'd REALLY want to add grill grates to it. www.grillgrate.com I use them anyway and it makes "grilling" on a pellet grill at higher temps work a lot better. With the side Sear Burner I don't know if it really makes a difference but again I don't have one. I can tell you the Woodwind I have quickly became my favorite grill to cook on. I love the clean outs and have gone untold numbers of cooks in between "cleanings". I think it's well worth the investment.

      K Kay You're going to scratch it up some to remove rust. Use a scotch bright pad, and once you have it cleaned up try to make the scratches go the same way as the original and it will look a lot better than rust. I do the same to clean my kitchen sink. I hope that helps.

    • @scottnra

      Good Question. It dumps the burn pot. you don't have to vacuum the inside very often. I probably go up to 15 - 20 cooks in between. If you don't dump the burn pot it won't even light after the 2nd or 3rd cook due to ash build up there. So less cleaning!

    • @scottnra

      Russ Stoker YES! If your grates overlap the drip tray you'd get grease past it into the barrel of the grill and past the grease management system. Good Question. Pellet grills really should not be cooked on on all the way to the edges for this reason with or without Grill Grates.

      The grill Grates concentrate the heat to the surface of the grates giving better searing and grill marks. (Something pellets grills are not really good at) They also make meat grilled at higher temps more juicy. I have them on all of my grills and have for many years now.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  6 лет назад +1

      Grill Grates concentrate the heat to the raised rails giving you a better sear. When the juices drip into the valleys they sizzle off creating the flavor infusing smoke of grilled food you just don't get when it falls down into the grill! They heat up much faster than steel or Cast iron and also give a bit of an infrared cooking effect. The camp chef, like most pellet grills struggles to get the grates "HOT" for searing or even making good grill marks. (Marks are extra texture and flavor as well as just appearance) The grill Grates sure that. Also the Grill Grates on the sear station heat up way faster than the CI grates and do a much better job on those reverse sear steaks! (Check that video out too!) This is why I say Grill Grates make every grill BETTER. It's also why all of my grills have them. Hope that helps.
