  • Hy There,
In this video i'll make a special screw (oil cap) for tractor rotary mower.
The screw was lost and than all the oil leak out and the main shaft come out also, so there was a bit of demage because the drums of mower crash together with a knife.
I need about two hours of work on a lathe and mill to make this screw.
If you are interested tell me in a comment and i will make better video only about how to cutting thread on minilathe.
    Thanks for watching.
Hope you enjoy in video and welcome to watch my other channel:

I like your workmanship and clever way of machining steps eg you tested the threads on mower before machining the hex - in case the threads did not work well then there would be no need to cut the hex. Thumbs up!!

Mohabat khan Malak offcourse i test every thread i make before continue processing, if the thread is fail everything else is fail.

Hi. I'll explain why using drill chuck is good for drilling, bad for milling. Drills cut only on the end. When drilling all the force pushes the drill BACK up into the chuck. It is safe. Milling tools cut on the side. When milling this side cutting action tries to pull the end or slot mill down OUT of the chuck. This is a bad thing. Your work can be damaged, you can get badly hurt if the tool hits you. Proper milling chucks (for example 'posilock') prevent this by holding the end or side mill with a thread that tightens if the tool turns locking the tool in the milling chuck. Almost as good is a collet chuck (for example 'ER20 collet') or perhaps a morse taper or 'R8 collet' which will fit directly into a morse taper or a R8 taper spindle without needing a seperate chuck. Both use a much bigger clamping area to hold the tool much tighter than a drill chuck does. You need a milling chuck or collet that matches the fixing taper in your mill spindle. I hope this helps folks understand. BobUK.

Very good. I think I would have cut the hexagon first, bcoz you can hold it that end when finished the same as when it is round bar.

True, but i f**ed up the thread all the work will be thrown away, today i will make the hex firstly.

Hi, I was really quite impressed with how you managed to produce such a great part from a very average machine. I mean it has plastic gears! You should be really quite impressed with the work you are doing. There's a saying that goes "A bad tradesman blames his tools". In your case, there's probably an opposite saying along the lines of "A skilled tradesman doesn't need to blame his bad tools". I liked and subscribed to your channel. There is a quite lot some of us who do have decent lathes can learn from you and how you work around the limitations of your lathe. Keep up the good work.

    • @TinC33

Fred Bloggs hy, thanks for yoir opinion, i really love this minilathe, i pay about 300€ for it and make a few mods, you must know the limitations of this little machine and you can do lot of stuff with it. I am sure that make parts for a few thousend $ with that small lathe, like repair a few starters with it (turning the rotor-colector) hydraulic thread and so on... Great little machine, but cutting tool os really importent there, it must cut like butter so you don't force the machine too much.

Amazing work on that tiny lathe. Your English is fine and very easy to understand. I've never seen the Machinery Handbook in another language!
One suggestion only: the word "Thread" is better pronounced like T and the color RED, instead of T and the sound REE.
You do very nice work on very small machines. You must have a lot of patience.

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  6 лет назад +1

Gary La thanks for tip i got it, yes i think i got lot of patience, sometime i use hours and hours to repair some shit wich cost $5...
Also i need them with my mini machines, that machines are great if you know how to work with, the best think is that they'r cheap (lathe €300) and you can improve them on 1000 ways. The most important on that mini machines is cutting tool, it must cut well so the force is smaller, i work also in big lathe and mill on work and yes there is a big difference, somekind you must feel that little machine and know where is the limit of force it can handle, or you'll destroy everything and saying arround how shitty that machine is.
I tell everyone this is great machines for the price but you just can't compare tham with 30.000€ woth lathe.
      Thanks

Hey bro, just info: the deepness of the thread isnt 1,3 (yes but from 26.00 diameter) you have like 25.80 diameter in real so you will need to adjust that to be 100% right. But its ok like you did.

Denis Tuma that's true but i make diameter 26mm than cut the tread, and for the end i sand with sandpaper top of thread for about 0,1mm so i got tighten screw for better oil sealing, thanks for that kind of comment, i always love them, i am "self study" about all this, i make electronic school but really like making with lathe and mill out of steel but don't got enough knowledge yet, but learning... That’s how I would do it. I’d also use a 1.5pitch full form tip and keep cutting til the o/d measures .1mm under. Decent job though for hobby machinery. I’ve been a turner for 37 years and currently make military aircraft parts.

I lose the ball also, so make a few other parts so i can use small 8mm ball, those days i make general servise on this mower, so i reassemvle it to last screw, and found the ball into gousing, i got lucky so all the gears stay ok. Then i sandblast all parts, paint them and now assembeling back together, sure i order few new parts from reform and replace all the bearings, total general service cost me about 800€ not included work because it's mine, but the mover will be just like new. I do not make video about it because it's lot of hard and dirty work so i can't record and work all together, but it can be interested video i know...
