- Cobain provided back-up vocals on this Hole track, which was released on the album Live Through This.
Different versions, with different volume levels of Cobain's vocals, exist. It is hard to hear him on "Live Through This", though "Outcesticide V" features a different version in which Cobain can be heard more clearly.
Some people claim that Cobain also played guitar on this track or that he wrote the song (or others on the Hole album). In fact, Cobain's involvement on the Hole album seems to be limited to backing vocals. An alternate mix of the song, with Cobain's vocals made more prominent, was scheduled for release as a single, but the plan was dropped after Cobain's death.

Is it Kristen Pfaff on backing vocals? Either way it is interesting the juxtaposition of Courtney's voice against the vocals of Kurt and the other backing singer. Idk man. Kurt would've made some interesting music had he made it through.
Yes, it's Kristen's backing vocals you can hear. Kurt's are on the official song as well, but they're mixed down more, so you can barely hear it. Originally, this version was also going to get its own Hole single, but after Kurt died, she changed her mind.

I think it's interesting how many people claim to love Kurt but hate what he loved. Is it jealousy that Courtney had his heart and he got her, or is it merely sexism towards any woman who happens to be married to a rock star or to do good freaking music herself?

i've never listened to hole tracks and thought oh that sounds like nirvana or that sounds like smashing pumpkins or any of her other co written tracks sound like anything other than hole

It's the second record. And when write songs yourself they can be personal, if your whole life is about the people you love and your ambitions of course your husband will have influence, but it doesn't mean he did it for you. And it doesn't d put your work behind.

That is an old sexist myth that would disgust Kurt Cobain (a known feminist). I am a diehard Nirvana fan, and I understand that Courtney Love is a very polarizing figure. However, Courtney was extremely talented and creative in her own right. She didn't need Kurt's help. The lyrics on Live Through This are way more transparent than Kurt's rather obscure lyricism.
Furthermore, many of the songs (including Asking for it) were written in the studio. The producers of the album are quoted saying:

@@nickhartman6372 1 - I really think that kurt was an amazing songwriter, but he would NEVER be able to wrote any Live Through This song. this album only could be written by a feminine perspective, kurt never would be able to wrote she walks on me, i think that I would die, violet, miss world or any live through this song. you probably didn't listend to the album and that's why you still belive in that shit.
