6:16 is some of the most unique tornado footage ever filmed. That 20ish-seconds belongs on the all time top 20 minutes of tornado footage ever filmed. It might be the best video I've ever seen of being directly under a forming tornado. Congrats Freddy. This is truly historical footage.
Thank you! Glad we were there to capture it
oh man!
@@FreddyMcKinney it almost resembles a hurricane in the sky with the eye! amazing footage dude, keep up the good work!
Amazing
For such a minor tornado, the footage was incredible.
I agree too
It's always the irrelevant ones that put on a show
As a child, I saw up into a funnel cloud that developing. I went inside and told my parents, they of course didn't believe me, until after the fact that it went a few miles north and destroyed some homes. That must have been 50 years ago or more... I looked it up, 4/20/1973, I guess my memory isn't that bad.
An unforgettable memory!
Same. My dad took a video but the year was 1999 so it was on VHS. In 2017 I got a USB TV-Tuner & VHS player to digitize all our old home videos but either the footage is unfortunately missing or I was away during that part so don't know in what video it may have been. There was roughly 40vhs tapes.
im pretty sure someone seeing a tornado would never forget no matter the age
Totally believe you as I have seen such a thing 2 maybe 3 times. First time as a child then the other time(s) as an adult. each time was more than just a visual experience. It was a chilling, creepy sensation esp when the sky casts that foul orangey-green color and things become very still except for thunder. It's bizarre and unforgettable.
how do parents not believe you? i know its the 70s but wouldn't there be a tv coverage, maybe not sirens though.
Man, the driver is such a G. Good team work guys.
For real he's the best. Thank you!
Glad to tag along. Thanks!
@@FreddyMcKinney That's scary. You could get sucked up into the funnel. 😬
I saw exactly that years ago when I lived in southeast Georgia. I was outside looking up at the cool swirl in the sky like a dumb kid while everyone was inside wondering what the dumb kid was looking at. Then the tornado warning happened and we spent the next 20 minutes crowded inside a tiny bathroom while the tornado moved on and never touched ground.
"here we go bud!"
Nothing less than amazing Freddy and John, an amazing team! thanks for putting in the effort here, masterfully done!!
What an amazing shot, something that chasers have been trying to get for decades and this guy captures it in the corner of his screen while focusing on debris!
I love the camaraderie you have with everyone you run into. Very wholesome. Keep up the good work brothers!
Will do thank you!
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite storm chasing channels on RUclips. Stay safe out there and keep up the good work!
Will do thank you!
I found your account 1 hour ago and I've been binge watching your videos. Subscribed about 20 mins ago and already a new video has been posted 😂. Great work man. I love these videos❤
That's pretty good timing haha welcome to the channel!
@@FreddyMcKinneyfound your channel yesterday. Watched you ever since
I like that both of you remained calm and focused. No screaming, panicking, or hyper-excitement. That’s so annoying in some of the other storm chasers.
The big names gotta ham it up for the cameras unfortunately.
Imagine calling someone’s excitement for loving what they do “annoying”
@@badumtiss5288
Imagine being naive enough to think that someone else's subjective opinion is wrong.
@Ba dum Tiss It's quite possible to find a person's reactions annoying. In fact, I think your comment was annoying.
@@mephInc When did I say it was wrong? Opinions aren’t facts, therefore they can be neither right nor wrong. HOWEVER, they can be stupid. And it’s my opinion that it’s stupid to criticise someone for what they love.
I'll never forget. Tampa, Florida. Standing in the parking lot after work, storm going overhead, a couple of us looked up to see a "whirl pool" in the rain clouds and seeing blue sky through it. Looked down and everyone with me was in their cars peeling out lol. It never became anything, but that was the wild.
June of 1983, I was out bike riding one afternoon. The sky was very dark with storm clouds. I looked up and froze. There was a funnel cloud with an open bottom like an upturned cup and i could see partway inside it. It was so well formed it looked solid. I realized what it was, got kind of scared and went home and called my mom at work. She freaked out and said hide in the tub. Then a big hail storm started. An hour later, the funnel dropped into empty field east of us.
Thank you for taking us along Freddy. This is fascinating & mesmerizing. It would be an excellent video for a class to dissect for meteorology. Your narration skills are eloquent. Your driver and you were so in sync with each other as well. Very professional video. Stay safe…
Thanks for the kind words Jennifer! Will do
That’s the best kind of tornado, photogenic and not damaging.
If only they were all like that
Well done. Being from New Zealand where tornadoes are comparatively rare things to see, never mind chase it was quite cool to see the birth of one from right underneath it.
Oh my god I never thought I’d see my parents house in one of these videos haha. That first gravel road and first home to the right. Insane!
I’ve seen straight up into a funnel and was amazing, I cannot even describe it. It was deep, we could see up pretty high in to it.
Did it look like this video?
@@garrettgarcia2592 pretty much yes, but the sky was clearer that day and it seemed a bit bigger. Of course it was in person and right over head so hard to compare, but it was like looking up into a swirling column of clouds. It was like a religious experience! I was at the mall in Dallas and the radio said the police were following a funnel cloud down NW hwy from University Park towards NorthPark mall, so I parked my car in the parking garage and ran out to watch. I joined half a dozen people all looking up and it passed right over head. It was no longer a funnel at that time. I’ve never seen a tornado but years later we had one that followed a similar path, weather comes from the West here in Dallas. I did get to see a funnel in Galveston one time. I’m not a storm chaser.
That was the vortex of the tornado, very impressive, but the storm cell itself was equally impressive IMO.
When I was a kid (southern AZ) I used to spend a lot of time in the spring chasing dust devils around the neighborhood on my bike. I had my goggles and I'd put myself right in the middle of the vortex. Some of those could get pretty strong. I never lost the fascination with them. Chasing big ones like always held some appeal but now I'm content to just watch the footage online.
What a beauty! Not too often you get to see clouds doing that above head
That is amazing. Had a gustnado form just feet from me and hit, hunkered down and held my nose to keep my breath… dust devil about six feet wide hit my car back half at 90 degrees and lifted the rear off the road. That tops those-looking straight up the swirly straw. Oak leaf cluster moment. Awesome and thank you for sharing
I saw this in Wichita KS on the campus of Wichita State many years ago. There was a tornado warning with the sirens blaring, and everybody was being hustled into the basement of the student union building. I went down, but curiosity got the best of me, and I slipped back outside. I looked up and saw a funnel from beneath very much like this. It started dipping down but fortunately dissipated before it came down and ruined my day. I hustled back to the basement. I've told people since it was like being an ant on the bottom of the bathtub watching the swirl of water starting to form up above.
Amazing! I feel like a fool because on Saturday, April 22, 2023, In Mooresville, NC I watched a confirmed F-0 go over my house. I could see the rotation very similar to this where there was no condensation funnel. Then the lower part to the ground rolled past the house. My first tornado EVER, with my phone sitting 3 ft away with me gawking out the patio door. Go fig.
I don't know whether to be fascinated or terrified
Anyone notice that Freddy kinda looks like the Sherminator from that movie American Pie?😂
I was thinking the same thing! Haha
Belíssimo Compartilhamento São Imagens Impressionantes Que Maravilha é a Natureza
it looks like Galactus! I was once stuck in traffic during a bad thunderstorm and I saw the clouds swirling above me in almost that manner, and I was really hoping no tornado was going to form over me while I was a sitting duck in my car.
This. This is the kind of chase we all want. Amazing capture, guys. Job well done.
I've heard stories of people who looked up inside a tornados vortex to see and continuous web of lightning, rotating around a single point of ball lightning. Tornadoes are amazing and terrifying at the same time.😲😱
That was so much fun. I love weather. Thank you for the video.
Excellent footage! Great work!
1:28 -- That rolling streamwise vorticity current in that shot is one of my favorite parts of this. Looks like it lost its steam right as the rotation was starting to ramp up and it all just sort of fell apart there.
That's when I thought it was going to drop a more substantial tornado but like you said it fell apart
Great video! What a shot you guys got there! All I thought of is, it looks like a big bung hole in the sky.
THAT... was freaking awesome! Thanks, guys!
Thanks for watching!
I live in west-central Missouri, an hour north of Springfield and in 2019 I witnessed my first actual "tornado" forming. Right over my house. My weeping willow tree still has twist damage done to it from the winds as the rotation intensified. I saw exactly what you showed in this video. The tornado eventually formed, touched down and did minor damage along a highway north of town. Was rated as EF1. Unfortunately this same storm cell eventually moved south to Springfield and was part of the reason for the Duck Boat disaster on Table Rock Lake.
I was in Springfield that day and watched the storm passing overhead. I was convinced it had tornadic potential--didn't know it'd already dropped one. Probably one of my favorite storm-watching experiences, up until I found out about the duck boat...
6:19 Incredible footage. Up close and personal!!!
Looks like the best father-son chasing team ever. Great footage.
In 1955, my family was living in Salina KS. My Mom was an at-home mom. One day we heard lots of thunder and ran out in the backyard. We looked up and saw seven of these things right over our heads. We could look right up into those tornadoes. We scampered to the basement, grabbing the dog and cat along the way. If any of those funnels ever reached the ground, I couldn't tell you.
What a great video - glad I found your channel!
Epic whirlpool! Good job you looked up.
Wow what a view of that tornado Freddy, Great video!
Never seen footage like this!
Wow!
That was incredible!
Eye to eye with the funnel cloud...👌👍
real life twister, this sounded crazy
Clouds look like the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Really makes me think of tornados like eddy's in a river when you see it from this perspective.
Interesting perspective!
Nice story to tell I don’t really want to do the math to see how old you are but I’m happy that you still have your memory. I’m still a kid so of course I have my memory but anyways.
I had been wondering if tornadoes actually had a hole inside them because I'd never seen it before. Then i saw a hole in one ON RADAR recently which made me think that yes, they do. And this video proved that for me. Awesome
All hurricanes/tornadoes have ‘holes’ in them actually, they are called the eye. When you are inside of the tornado/hurricane (aka in the eye) everything is perfectly fine inside, you wouldn’t even know that there was a hurricane/tornado. But that is still dangerous so do not go out of your safe place.
I saw the cell as I was trying to intercept a cell approaching red oak. I keep beating myself up for not deciding to follow it but I got a GORGEOUS picture of the supercell when it was still developing ~6pm
Sort of like a cute little hurricane just rotating up above ya there. Awesome footage of that sucker :)
Had similar thing happen in my own home town out in the country had a tornado literally beeline it towards the town and the moment it reached the old fair grounds it vaporized, did a super Russia doped Olympic jumped over the entire town was epic watching it swirl as it went over head went really slow too as though it was puttin on a show. When it made it all the way across to the other side of town it touched down again and went on it's merry way. Couple months prior to that had one racing towards town then out of nowhere it pulled almost two 30 degree turns and went right down the highway in front of our town, after it got in front of town it started to book it too probably was going 30-40 /km/h was like it deliberately was pushed away from the town and did not want to be here.
A kid in charge of others lives while chasing in the passenger seat. Truely incredible.
Great footage 👀
At 6:36 I saw a storm cloud like that I took lots of photos of the swirl cloud and it was incredible but I can’t find the photos on my grandma iPad 😭
AWESOME!! Thanks for it!
I saw a vortex when i was a kid on my way to Kings Island. I was more interested in it than scared of what could happen if it reached the ground.
You guy's are effing NUTS! Great shot, btw.👍😱😂🇺🇸
Amazing video! Keep this good work up! But stay safe!
Toilets are white poop is brown I liked my own comment cuz nobody else wanted to!
Literally one of those videos "We'll be doing it so you dont have to"
Amazing video. Thanks for share.
It's comin right for us! - Jimbo & Ned
who thought they got a scratch on there laptop
Once in a lifetime sight. Amazing you got it on tape
At 4:35 it's weird to see those little tufts of cloud to the left of the funnel. Like someone pulled a cotton ball apart.
By the way, what kind of music did you add to the video? It sure adds to the spookiness!
Thank you for not being a "reed timmer" while capturing this footage
Ok you set the bar high, you got the money shot. Awesome
6:17 Wow thats crazy, it looks like a black hole complete with event horizon :)
Great view!
This is the same storm that took the roof off of my barn near Belvidere, IL and completely ripped my airplane that way tied down from the ropes it was tied down with
We have "weak" tornados all the time here in the San Luis Valley...we call them Dust Devils😉. Just not enough moisture up here for a twister I guess.
INSANEEEEEE!!!!
bro really upskirted a tornado
I remember when I was 16 I heard thunder and started looking out the door with the glass door shut it was calm all around then across the street I see trees start swaying back and forth violently. The trees further away started to sway first then almost like in lines they start swaying closer and closer. I slammed the door shut then started hearing high speed winds blowing against the house and just as fast as it started it stopped so I went out the opposite door and when I looked up I saw clouds spinning in a circle moving away from the house. To this day nobody in my family believes this happened.
😂😂😂... Like "They" say...."If a 'Nader" is NOT moving Left or Right, then that means it's coming for YOU..!!!...😂😂!!!
Never saw a video of a tornado from *directly *below. Thanks for amazing "set the scene" prior and after.
What was your thinking at that moment if it changed course and touched down: anchor down low in a ditch close by, or getaway by car?
OMG that was a huge and dangerous tornado. It had to have been at least an EF6 ;)
Seriously though, you are lucky it didn't suddenly drop a strong tornado on you guys. You were almost next to both tornadoes.
70s the green sky ..watched turn above us ..touched down about 10 miles away.. crow fly
Wicked vid. Incredible POV!
It looks just like a hurricane's smaller, much more evil sibling.
Fortunately the very few that I saw from the bottom either didn't touch down or were weak. Still, time to go stand in the bathtub until the sirens are over.
I've seen that view, and thank goodness this time the tornado didn't touch down or it would have killed my dad who was sheltering in a tent from the golf-ball sized hail.
Best up into tornado I’ve seen 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Imagine ur a tornado that is landing down and some guy from Iowa is staring u down
6:19 You just looked God straight in the eye.
incredible footage
This is so badass
Cool video and Go Big Red!
0:40 They ran out of shades of purple to indicate how severe the weather was.
last seconds of a hero
Has Iowa always had this amount of tornado activity? It's like all I hear about anymore
Iowa has had active periods in the past, but these past three years have been above average.
@@FreddyMcKinney what do you think about the more common occurrence of derechos? One blew through Iowa in 2020 and did a load of damage
Thank you for allowing us to view such amazing footage in safety!!!🤯
Not a Tornado until it is touching the Ground, That is a Funnel Cloud:)
Facts
Exactly what I saw under an Ef0/Ef1 here in the UK. My first tornado. It was actually counterclockwise too. Destroyed the outdoor seating area of the pub I was in and damaged a caravan park. This was at Dawlish Warren for any brits reading.
Even if I knew everything about being a storm chaser, my seat would still be brown. You guys are great!
Nice vixeo. What area of london was this taken
Who knew the underside of a developing tornado looks just like the back of my cat!
Are you guys the same tornado chasers we met, who lived in Iowa City in 2013?
Nope I was 11 in 2013 haha
I live down the road. I didn't know there was a tornado?!?
