You caught the O.C. in gorgeous light. And I can see the Staybridge hotel right next to the former MCAS at 10:04, where I staid this year. Great location. Great hotel. (I don't get paid by them 🙂.)
I'm a cfi at this airport and used to work at 1 of the fbos, the hard landings come from the runway only being about 5,700 feet long. The pilots can't give it that extra back pressure to make it a really smooth landing, they just have to get the plane down. Also fun fact, for a lot of the airlines, only their captains are allowed to do the takeoffs and landings at John Wayne!

nice - A220 looks like a nice plane. Firm landing probably because the runway is shorter at SNA
Great landing! But why was the landing so rough?
Good question!
