Test drove one a few weeks ago. I was shocked at how good it is. The quietness and ride comfort. CVT is actually bearable as it imitates an auto. Good engine. Would I buy one, maybe. Would I keep it if I won one, for sure.
If you wanna get this car with all the cool stuff, I say wait 2 years in, by then they are updated and few recalls solved. Not a good idea buying a new generation early.

Almost Everyone hated the peugeot design themes.. A few years later almost all morden cars have the gapping mouth design.. Watch this space.. What ever Peugeot is doing now.. Wil come up in other brands later
I think that Apple car play and Android Auto should come as standard facets of the car if they need to sell. The starting price is a bit high for the Polo and golf loving market. I dont know, I dont have a car just yet, but I would definitely buy this car
No Andizi- as a youth of South Africa I am not buying a Toyota corolla because it doesn't have a sunroof, sunroof ingenisile, you want a way into the youth's heart's enter through the sunroof baba, siyivula nditsho izulu lisina imvula ka80%. also do something about that boot, imagine having to hire a trailer just so you can bring a cooler box along. For the upgraded versions please enlarge the boot, park distance control,android Auto and Apple car play is a must. What a car this is. This is a hot take, but I think that if you're in the market for a premium hatchback and engine power doesn't concern you too much, This and the Mazda 3 will make great alternatives without having to pay German money.

Honestly, my first impression of this car is that its meant for old people. No phone connectivity, no sat nav... in 2019... I'd rather buy the new mazda 3 skyactiv. Better performance , better styling and fuel economy from NA engines. Plus it has better standard features and not shit meant for the elderly.

Also German is another word for expensive as fuck if it breaks down. And while you guys in SA get a bare bones version, I recently ordered one with the new 2.0l hybrid and adjustable suspension. It also has BT connectivity, Nav and internet connectivity. It will also get Android Auto and CarPlay by the end of the year with free upgrade for those that don't have it now.
I recently ordered mine. But since I'm in Europe, mine is a 2.0l Hybrid with 180hp and adjustable suspension. It also has nav and full phone connectivity and Mirrorlink though still no CarPlay or AndroidAuto. Does have Qi charging as well and full park assist/automatic parking. It also as a speedometer with 3D effects instead of the normal digital display. Just to name a few things you apparently don't have 😁.
I just scanned the latest issue of the British magazine CAR and out of 5 cars....the Corolla hatch was LAST. One of the key factors in its poor showing was the lack of equipment that other manufacturers included so that the price was a bit out of line with its competitors. Other cars tested included the Ford Focus, VW Golf, Mazda3, and Skoda Scala.
Tbh I was planning on getting an 86 but god damn this car is growing on me and makes me want to get this instead of the 86. Too bad it’s fwd and around 130-160hp.
Probably the only stylish Toyota ever produced, but holy crap 85 kW range topper and no Bluetooth phone connection, at least stylish grandparents have a Toyota option now.
the only thing my lady is worried about is adaptive cruise control technology and parking assist or self parking. is it true that in South Africa they've limited those features because of affordability issues?
what a cooler box doesn't fit!? it fit just fine in my Kia Picanto and there was hardly a boot in that car with a screen like that you would think it has at least android auto if there is no satnav..and a plastic hatch really no man I will admit it looks cool but there are better hatch backs. A Cvt with a launch gear, the direct gear is meant mostly for low vehicle speed when accelerating from a stop before the CVT takes over. Launch gear for low speed efficiency.
And again toyota does this we don't get the range topper like the rest of the world Neither do we get the new 2.0 engine or the new CVT with an actual first gear
Having test driven this, I was actually surprised by the interior quality and solidity. Very different to the plastic nonsense they usually spew out. The reverse camera however is shockingly low quality with a grainy image it is basically unusable. The road noise is a bit high and I did not like the gearbox at all. It drones and makes the power delivery weird making it appear sluggish. A well engineered and well sorted normal torque converter automatic like those from Mazda would have been so much better. Toyota just took the easy way out here using a rubbish CVT. Having also driven a Peugeot with a 1.2 turbo and normal automatic with similar power and torque to the Toyota 1.2 turbo with CVT, the Peugeot feels and performs light years better. Other than that it is an okay car. Interior quality is much improved but for Toyota that is not saying much.

That's a massive lie.... My second car is a auris 2014, nowhere near the perfection on driving with the Corolla! The Corolla you are driving it at 230 km/h. And absolutely no shaking, and no noise, Auris you gonna have your ears bleeding, and the movement of the car nowhere near as solid as the corolla, the way the corolla turns in corners not only its allot faster than the auris, it is way more planted but not only that you can experience lift off oversteer, it's absolutely neutral balanced, if you make it understeer with the esp it interferes with the best way! Apply rear brakes and it makes it feel like a rwd 150 hp bmw 1 series 2016, Don't comment stuff badly just because you can't aford it

You poor buggers in SA get ripped off . The Corolla starts from R250 000 in Australia with the same specs but we get satnav and we also get the new toyota 2.0L 125 kw 200Nm engine as standard , not that wheezy 1.2l turbo unit . Plus emergency city braking as standard too .
It's quite surprising Android Auto/Apple CarPlay won't be retrofitted in South Africa. Australian car journalists are saying customers can retrofit this feature once Toyota makes it available for them. This is quite disappointing from Toyota SA.

Hi guys... So I've been in the market for year now. Looking for a decent car for about R350k. Recently married so need the space of family car. I'm currently driving an 07 Fiesta which I've put 190k kms on. Trouble is that with all the cars market nothing really seems value for money anymore. Perhaps because I haven't kept up to date with car prices for a few years. My options recently were as follows. Honda HRV- nice looking crossover with Honda reliability but terribly loud CVT. Tuscon and Tiguan I like but both over my budget. Also base models are terrible for R420. Was banking on this Carolla as am alternative to a crossover but not interested anymore. The 2019 focus has gotten great reviews in UK and looks handsome in St line trim. Problem is that Ford is the biggest losers at the moment regarding reliability. Last option for this year could be the t cross. Might be too small though. Will have to see in the metal. Otherwise will have to wait for the golf 8 next year. Any opinions would be welcome our Anyone in the same predicament feel free to contact me via WhatsApp 0784433633 to share ideas.

Imagine the current, now 7 year old, Golf has better technology and the Toyota is all new. It will be completely annihilated once the Golf 8 arrives. Toyota has never really managed to stay competitive in any segment. They start designing their new models where the competitors are currently at rather than designing it for when it comes out after development meaning they are always behind right from launch.
The rear looks like the 4th generation Mazda 3 hatch..... the price for the entry level is stupidly high... the new Mazda 3 will shut this down with its range.
In case you are not aware sat nav is an option item in many “expensive” brands. Those should also be marketed at old age home as per your line of thinking
