Agreed 10000%. The answer is one of two reasons: 1.) it's yet another Michael Douglas vanity project (he's always been a producer, even before he was an actor, that's what he's best at. Or.....2.) Every other actor passed on it, the script was so bad. (or both)
Lol. Not my favorite uncle, maybe yours. If the script was good, believe me, they'd have someone else playing Benjamin Franklin. They got Michael Douglas because it obviously sucks. It's a movie made for and by imbeciles. (Just so you know).
His intellect, scientific discoveries, and cleverness give Franklin credibility with the French. A foot in the door. His importance as a credibility factor here in America and overseas are major reasons for our success. Remember, he’s part of all the early documents Albany Plan of Union, Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. Consider he’s probably the only American at the time known by Europeans. This might be the most important decision made by our founding fathers.
None of that will be in the series, other than maybe little exposition sentences uttered here and there; they'll be too busy showing him tickling french girls in bed and smoking opium and crap like that. Obviously this miniseries is a coloring book for morons, with a totally miscast actor who's in way over his head. Either a vanity project (I'll bet he produced it), or else every other actor passed on it and Douglas is all they could get.
I’m looking forward to this! Ben Franklin was definitely a complicated guy and bit of a playboy and France wasn’t too keen on going to war with England who they lost to in their last war especially for the colonies that were just at the beginnings of trying to develop into a country.
Although I totally agree with those saying that Douglas was miscast, if he brings draws in more people (especially the younger crowd) to get some American history they would not otherwise have received, I support this movie. The caveat being: IF the movie is historically accurate (at least to a large degree).
Many believe Franklin was an ENTP, like myself, according to Myers Briggs. Viewing him in that light in interesting for me. He was probably generally extremely competent and witty and had a high opinion of himself. He probably used charm to win people to his side and to make allowances for the constant ADD like jumps from one topic to another that can leave people feeling lost without it. From what I’ve read he demonstrated some of the very best and worst of my personality type. He brilliantly innovated and took an aggressive approach to involvement in the highest political aspirations of his day. He apparently also was a bit of a womanizer and took advantage of his ability to grasp various perspectives in order to captivate many women. His ego was probably enormous but so was his talent. Interesting man.
I read that Ben Franklin was so popular in France that a commode chair was found with a picture of is face in the bowl!! Now, is that flattering or what?!!!
@yellowstoneloyal8186 the cinematography is great Vanessa Kirby and Joaquin Phoenix make great performances. But the writing and skirting around a lot of important events make it disappointing if you are a history buff.
I love Michael Douglas and I think this will be a fantastic movie. My issue with a great deal of movies made by Hollywood about the Colonies vs. Britain is the accent. Colonists sounded exactly the same as those that live in Britain and they were British and considered themselves British. Sure there are regional accents/dialects in the UK and those were transferred here, but no one sounded like a modern US Citizen (not even close).
No comparison to Tom Wilkinson’s performance along with that of Paul Giamatti in John Adams. That series should be required in all American high school history ciasses.
I hope this will be treated with the same respect and care the HBO John Adams series was, but sadly, I know that series was made in a different era. This will likely be inaccurate, lame, and gay.
Ohh 100% You can see the downgrade in quality and respect for the character. It's meant to bring it down and lift the next "gender" at the expense of us. Yea I dont think so.
My Uncle Bill has for some years been researching our family history and recently learned of me that we are descendants of good ol' Ben Franklin, eight generations removed though of course. What I took from that is the idea my family aren't complete muggins after all... 🤦🤓 🤛
That may be true, however England didn’t have nuclear weapons aimed at both France and the United States with a King who openly warned them that he would use them if provoked too much. It’s amazing to me that nobody defending Ukraine’s side seems the least bit concerned about that fact.
@@WideTier that’s just bully boy tactics, Russia will never bring about mutually assured destruction. So long as NATO troops don’t get involved, there’s no problem with supplying weapons etc. If the west gives in to bullies then they’ll take a lot more than our lunch.

LOL. I know, right? Can you believe these idiots are acting like this is anything other than a joke? Obviously it's an embarrassing vanity project; or else the script was so bad that every other actor passed on it. He was always a hack actor, he was ok, he was never anything incredible. These doofuses are acting like it's Orson Welles playing him. It certainly wasn't like hearing Paul Giamatti was playing John Adams, or Daniel Day Lewis playing Lincoln.
Respect and honor this American patriot and hero...and our Republic.
Republics are a form of democracy, and it's under direct attack by conservatives today.
Oh yeah. Franklin was born for this.
What a lot of people don’t realise is that Britain was also fighting Spain as well as America and France at the time that America gained its independence . The majority of Americans like to forget that and think that they managed it on their own.
Michael Douglas: I am Benjamin Franklin
Tom Wilkinson: Hold my goblet
Exactly! Bravo!
Sadly Tom Wilkinson is no longer among the land of the living
@@BIGJXXXhe would still do a better job than Douglas.
@@BIGJXXX for the purposes of his role in "John Adams" he doesn't have to be. It exists already and is MASTERFUL

Never met Ben franklin but this seems like perfect casting.
Haven't met him either, but have you ever seen Tom Wilkinson play him?

Brilliant actor. I’ll watch anything with Michael Douglas. This looks awesome 🙌
LOL 😂😂😂😂 rich
Oh hell yes! This looks insanely great! Please tell me it will be in theaters and not just on Apple TV. I'm so sick of movies only made for these streaming services.
Its a mini series on apple+. Lol. It literaly shows that in the first30 seonds
I think the death of the movie theater is imminent my friend 😒😞
@@user-rt7vo5fr8e Yeah and they're dumb for it. Many people including myself prefer to watch on a huge screen with other people. It's just more fun that way.
Who needs movie theaters when you have a good home theater set up? No rude people to deal with or phones going off. You can also pause the film whenever you need to grab a snack or hit the bathroom. 🍿
Bravo for playing it straight, no affected accents.
Let's gooooooo. Looks good.
I'm having one of those 'why' moments. Like when they cast Edward G. Robinson in The Ten Commandments... why??
Agreed 10000%. The answer is one of two reasons: 1.) it's yet another Michael Douglas vanity project (he's always been a producer, even before he was an actor, that's what he's best at. Or.....2.) Every other actor passed on it, the script was so bad. (or both)
❤this is going to be great! As a Postal Worker, he is my first boss. As Michael Douglas. Perfection!
Michael Douglas never disappoints.
“The USA: it’s all down hill from here”
Everyone onscreen is thoroughly 21st century.
How did you expect them to look? It's the 21st century
Michael Douglas feels like your favorite uncle you only see every once and a while. Dude's usually only getting supporting actor roles.
Well they helped you anyway, and payed a terrible price for it. Only for Americans to mock them as cowards in ww2... class
@@-MaxXxuS-Rubbish
Looks good
Although I totally agree with those saying that Douglas was miscast, if he brings draws in more people (especially the younger crowd) to get some American history they would not otherwise have received, I support this movie. The caveat being: IF the movie is historically accurate (at least to a large degree).
Michael Douglas has come such a very long way, and he's a fantastic actor. He will do good playing Benjamin Franklin
Franklin dreams he looked like this.
Yeah, lol. What a joke, right?
This is exciting
Michael Douglas is awesome. The only thing I've seen him in is Romancing the Stone.
I so see his father in his face. Great actors, both ❤❤
Oh this is gonna be awesome. ❤
Ben Franklin and Michael Douglas two of my favorites
Hope its better than Napoleon.
I've been meaning to watch Napoleon, is it that bad?
@yellowstoneloyal8186 the cinematography is great Vanessa Kirby and Joaquin Phoenix make great performances. But the writing and skirting around a lot of important events make it disappointing if you are a history buff.
@@worldofdoom995 👍
@@yellowstoneloyal8186 It glosses over or speeds past some of his most notable battles. It's jarring at times.
@@worldofdoom995 Do they've a 4-hour DC coming for Napoleon? I hope so.
They didn't cast a gay black woman to play Ben Franklin? I am shocked!
I'm genuinely surprised they didn't cast Idris Elba in the role.
The BBC would have done it for sure.
Let’s do a series of movies about our founding fathers in the same vein as the marvel cinematic universe. That would be friggin awesome.
yes, movie about George Washington in a spin off that takes place at the same time. With Michael Douglas making a cameo as Benjamin Franklin
My Uncle Bill has for some years been researching our family history and recently learned of me that we are descendants of good ol' Ben Franklin, eight generations removed though of course. What I took from that is the idea my family aren't complete muggins after all... 🤦🤓 🤛
Hi I'm gay actor Michael Douglas
I Hope they don’t add gay stuff or make gender and race swaps. Maybe he is Puerto Rican?
I already saw a black "French" woman in this clip, so you know it'll be woke
It’s sad we live in a time where the founders of our country are vilified. They had more courage and strength than 99 percent of the living today.
He totally fits to such a great character! So interesting to watch an historical movie like this
Never forget when saying don’t help Ukraine, if France hadn’t helped with weapons, money, and supplies USA would have been screwed.
Hahahahah what a stupid comparison
@@zeekot4064 you care to offer an argument or is that all you’ve got?

Cool, michael Douglas playing michael Douglas and don’t forget to add a gay romance and an African to make it less historically accurate its like they need to fill checkbox’s

Exactly why movies now days are trash.
Yes because they’ve always been SOOOO accurate in the past right??
This seems good! Hopefully, they would release its blu-ray soon; I am not an heir to any railroad fortune to be able to afford every streaming service on the planet!
And I am happy that they did not cast a black, asian or arab man for Benjamin Franklin as they did an Indian for Dickens, a few years ago. I am happy that people are returning to factual sanity, slowly and steadily!
I'm going to go to bed early so I can catch the first showing in the morning.
I like Douglas but this is terrible casting.....
Came here to say this. Having strong aversions to everything about it.
I disagree
I think John Lithgow may have been a better choice.
Wow, Michael Douglas looks painfully bad in this role. He seems to have none of the charisma and humour of Franklin.
I love Kirk Douglas as a professional in his field but nobody can top Howard da Silva's (1776, 1972) portrayal of Benjamin Franklin.
Douglas playing Franklin! Never saw that coming. I thought his father was spartucus 🤭
Gay actor Michael Douglas.
Looks great, I think Michael Douglas was born to play this role. 🌟
The great thing about Benjamin Franklin, he did things his own way. He never let people force him to conform to society and fashion status. he hardly ever wore a powdered wig, and good on him. Also George Washington never wore a powdered wig too. He powdered his hair. Those powdered wigs of the style of the time around the world were stupid 😅😅. Benjamin Franklin a great American hero. I am British, and i have a lot of respect for our American cousins. 😌. I will be watching this TV series
So hyped about this... Michael Douglas best interpretation ever, if it wasn't a series but an actual movie I would feel like it's worth an Oscar. Besides... Benjamin Franklin's story is a heck of a story that really needed to get to the cinema theatres. Many Americans should watch this and remember how Europe has been important in the USA making before the US armies did what they did to end WWII. Our bond is too much important to let it down.
While both humorous serious, I found Howard da Silva's portrayal of Benjamin Franklin in 1776 to be endearing and memorable.
My mind is blown I love Mr Franklin he is one of my heros. Douglas as Franklin is such a crazy and amazing choice. I wish Tom Wilkerson could of been of alive to make a cameo possible as Mr Franklins Father
So happy to see Sandy Kominsky making it as an actor!
Looks good! And Michael Douglas is a fantastic actor.
MIchael Dougllas does a masterful job as Benjamin Franklin, if he had lived another 230 years
