Why do some commenters not realise that comedians on panel shows are not like that in real life, they are playing characters, or exaggerations of themselves ....?
I mean, to a degree, they are being themselves as they have their own unique ways of taking the piss out of everything. I think their comedy persona is more of just of an extension of their actual personalities.
Check out a show called 'The Green Room with Paul Provenza'. It's comedians just hanging out, discussing all kinds of things and just being themselves. You'll see that they are still quite the characters in real life. Jimmy Carr is actually in one of the episodes, as well as a few other of our favorite Brits. It's a real shame it only lasted 2 seasons!

He's been on QI.
And WILTY
....And Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Doubtlessly others as well.
Richard Ayoade is a gem, thanks for taking the time to share this with us and remind me of it. All the best to you.
WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED ABOUT THE AWESOMENESS OF BRITISH TV?!
+Abdo AlJurf probs because you dont live in england mate
Jeff The Gaming Llama
I don't live in the US either but I've had their garbage shoved down my throat since I was an infant.
true but i live in the uk and we get adverts when the shows are getting released and i guess people who live in the uk are not aware that people outside of it would have any interest at all on what is being shown in england but it turns out they like it too
Well British TV is awesome.
+Abdo AlJurf Old comment but have you gotten around to Mock The Week?
Richard is easily the wittiest comedian I've ever seen. I'd love to take a class on comedy from him even though it'd just become him talking about something completely different for an hour.
+JakeTakesTheCakes I don't think you can learn that. I think he was born with that talent.
+Emma J You can't learn his style, sure, but he must have some really interesting viewpoints about comedy. Hell, any good comedian, even the ones who are just naturally funny, have some sort of method or formula for their comedy.
You can't be born with a profession, only talents. And as we know, through competitive singing/talent/etc. reality shows, you won't come very far with a talent alone.
the wittiest is Lee Mack imo but Richard is pretty damn good too.
Oh shit that's true. Lee Mack is pretty damn great.
Someone should've thought through the rammifications of having Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell in the same room. The logical sarcasm is off the effing charts! You can see David grinning at Richard's little spiels because he knows he's found his equal.
I loved his episode of Gadget man with Richard.
This was such an underrated show. It's a shame it only ever got one season.
richard and jimmy have some real chemistry in this show.
Richard and Jimmy just sublime.
"Stop the moment" is one of the best things I have ever heard hahaha it got me
That timing and repetition joke was absolute genius
Oh my god, when David and Richard started imitating Catherine Zeta-Jones insulting Michael Douglas I thought I was going to pass out from laughing so much!
God, I love Richard, David, and Jimmy. The dry wit is just so intense. It's beautiful. Also, hardly any American schoolchildren actually know that much of the Gettysburg Address. We might know the first eight words or so, but that's probably it.
omg the Roger Federer joke killed me! XD So unexpected but brilliant
i need more Richard and Jimmy!!!
This show is pure comedy gold lmao
Slaphappy1975 Almost as good as your profile image!
Mike P I hate to be that person, but it's from an anime, it's not meant to be humorous
+Kristina Boo Wendy, Boo.
Jimmy's face during Richard's rant! XD
"They find golf insufficiently interesting without this additional rule." hahaha
Love the humour and witicism of it all. Infinitely better than anything which comes out of Hollywood.
I love this. Carr, Ayoade and Mitchell are my three favourite comedians.
I was going to say the same thing but then I read the user name
Jimmy Carr and Richard Ayoade are on fire, pure improvisational genius
i've come back for this so many times!
As an American who lived in Britain for years, Jimmy's "Eat All You Can" comment really highlights the differences between our two cultures.
Besides being an awesome comedian, Richard Ayoade is also a greeeat filmmaker. He directed a film called: "Submarine" I bloody loved it! Now I cannot wait to read his book.
Music Films & Bastille He directed that?? The one with the soundtrack by Alex Turner?
yep, that one, it's brilliant, isn't it? I loved every single scene!(:
Music Films & Bastille I still need to watch it, it seems great though!
Jimmy Carr and Richard Ayoade might just be the funniest team I have seen.
Never knew of this show existing - love David 😊 but Jimmy & Richard 🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻 SPOT ON! 😂
ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE FUNNIEST COMEDY SEGMENTS I'VE EVER WITNESSED. BRILLIANT!
24:40 I can't tell you how long I've waited to hear David Mitchell say that to me.
14:00 starting dying of laughter
I Don t like this moment 😂🤣
Can you see how far back I'm leaning?
I returned to this episode just for that
Same
i was looking for this comment before i went a did it myself haha
Found this now and am continually dabbing the tears of laughter away/this series really works!!
This episode is so good. I've watched it so many times and just cry laughing every single time
It's magical
richard and jimmy should ALWAYS sit together!!! 2 of my favorite comedians
Richard's interaction with Jimmy is so utterly brilliant, and Jimmy letting himself be the straight man. It's just so funny. I looked this up just to watch this part again.
"Do you see how far back I'm leaning" poor guy XD
"Can you see how far back I'm leaning?"
I'm about to cry for the laughters
Richard and Jimmy are getting on fine. They're just playing off each other.
my favourite thing about british quiz shows, (qi, this, big fat quiz of) is you're always going to know at least 2 of the contestants. And they all seem to have their own show. Ahhhh its brilliant. :)
I love how Richard Ayoade basically played himself on the IT Crowd
Such a funny dude!!
19:10 to be fair I'm American and I can only get about as far as Jimmy did with the Gettysburg Address💯👏🏻👏🏻🤣😂😭💀
Well, yeah. Because our school systems suck. Granted, I did actually have to memorize the Gettysburg Address back in grade school, and now I can barely remember the first 6 words, let alone the rest of it.
I'm sad this only aired for one series.
Why do some commenters not realise that comedians on panel shows are not like that in real life, they are playing characters, or exaggerations of themselves ....?
It's not an exaggeration, it's just comedy.
***** Well, exaggeration for comic effect. If you don't put some of yourself into your jokes, they don't really work as well.
We don't give a shit what they're like in person, we just enjoy the shows they are in.
13:40-14:42 is my favourite part 'do you see how far back I'm leaning this is as far back as I can lean'😂😂😂
That moment between Carr and Ayoade is one of my favourite moments in any show.
Which one of the MANY?
Ayoade, Carr, Mitchell - three things I love (and miss) most about Britain!
Why have I never watched this before!!! Awesome.
Im watching this on my birthday. As much as i want another series today, i need a life
Jimmy and Richard on the same team is what every other panel show has been missing.
