Update 9-3-23: I received my X-SIGHT 5 scope back from ATN, and it came with Firmware 5.1.04.476 and it addressed several issues:
- Scope holds zero after photo, video and ranging.
- Ballistic Calculator works great.
- I can rename profiles with the ATN Connect 5 app.
- RAV Calibration works.
- RAV 240fps video record works*.
- No lockups in a 3 hour hunting session.
When using RAV, regardless of what video resolution you are in, it takes you back to 1920. Only a very small portion of the video is recorded in 240fps slo-mo, and the rest of the video is recorded in 30fps. This sucks because you have this slo-mo piece mixed in with real time footage, and it's very short, like less than a half second real time, which is around 5 seconds total.
This also means you can't use RAV to even record 1920 at 120fps so you can slow down in your video editing software. You also can't use RAV to just record 4K video standard speed.
There are some minor issues, such as if you try and press buttons too quickly after turning on, it may not function and lock up. That was resolved by not pressing any buttons for 10 seconds after boot up.
Are you using it with an fx impact? Post a video of the ballistic calculator working with it if you can. If not, no biggie; won’t ever get this scope again anyway. Just realized, you have to ship to and pay ATN yo get the battery changed. No way.
Well - glad I saw this updated post. I just ordered the X-Sight 5 LFR 5-25x for my soon to arrive Daystate Air Wolf .30 cal Blue Edition... I've been regretting the decision to purchase the X-Sight 5 until I saw this update. I'm assuming that things seem to be getting sorted out, and was prepared for SOME firmware glitches... I think I'm ok with the purchase now - should be here in a couple days. Have there been any other FW updates since 476? Any other updates? This really checked all the boxes for me - night vision, range finder, 4k recording, decent price... Odd that the RAV (Recoil-Activated Video recording) doesn't work with 4k? EDIT: maybe you could add something to the title of the video to show that it's significantly improved? I initially only saw your negative "hard pass" on this and regretted buying it. If I had seen your video before I bought it, I would have passed as well. The company seems like they're trying hard to sort it out and are making significant progress. @@LDBecker I make a lot of videos and from my understanding they cap filming in 4 k to low fps because of over heating the sensor. Lower resolutions can do more fps, but I wouldn’t expect amazing quality.

I have only one problem with the scope, that was associated with trying to load up an older custom reticle, but other than that, I've been killing a ton of pest with the ATN X-SIGHT 5 5-25x LRF!

Again, I have had most all of my issues addressed with firmware 5.1.04.476. Things are working great enough that I have my X-Sight 5 mounted as my scope that I am using for hunting that past few weeks.
Thanks a million for the comparison and review. I've been considering upgrading from my X-Sight 4K Pro, but I might hold off for a bit longer as they work on the firmware. It was pretty much the same story a few years ago when I got the 4K Pro, with some buggy issues. However, after a few months and a couple of firmware upgrades, it became very stable and worked as advertised. I'm guessing the same will hold true for the X-Sight 5.

I gave ATN every opportunity to get me a functioning firmware, and the update they gave me was worse than the original! I didn't need this scope, as I was happy with my X-SIGHT 4K Pro, but I wanted to test out how things were with the 5 series before I purchased the $6000 Thor 5 XD LRF. In any case, I'm glad I could help someone out.
Great really no one like to give correct information.
Same as before I buied kaliber criket 2 tactical, in the reviews all they proved it support slug.

Again, my scope was significantly better when it was returned back from service. I'm happy enough with it that I am using it for hunting now.

@@n2shooter well, I did end up purchasing an ATN X-Sight 5 LRF (5x-25). I would have bought one months ago, but was seeing too much indication that they released it before the firmware was ready. Now normally for a scope that wouldn't be a big deal, but for a scope like the 5th gen X-Sight with built in LRF that can make your PoA the PoI, software is critical obviously.
I recommended to them, if they ever want to push this to the next level (instead of 1,000 yard, go to 1,500 yard or so). They need to interface with a portable weather station. I have a 1 mile gun I built years ago (w/ .338 Lapua Magnum) and I have a ballistics app on my phone and it gets all the environmental info from BlueTooth to my Kestrel 4500BT. It also takes in a lot more info about my custom loads (using 300 grain Nossler Accubond-Longrange), barrel, scope/reticle, and some advanced info (like using G7 BC instead of G1).
There are so many more variables involved past 1,000 yards, that you really don't want to be typing in as they change and are better suited to be streamed as messages to the ballistics app.
Man if, they do this, they can essentially make a scope to sell to the military that would allow 1 man sniper teams where it makes sense to. To think that you could potentially have a scope that determines the perfect PoA (that equals the PoI) on a moving target, with wind, at 1,500 yards...
I suggested to them 2 new slogans...
ATN we make your PoA = PoI
and
ATN, we turn your 2 man sniper team into a 1 man sniper team,

@@Hangs4Fun I have no idea why 🤷♀. What kind of long range info do you want to know? Like zoomed in long range in the various resolutions? I know the new 240fps looks much better that I could have expected, especially since the resolution is reduced below 1080p.
Thanks for the review helped make my mind up to look at another option, had the 4K and that was the same buggy, lockups all the time gave up on it in the end and sold it, such a shame that ATN can not make a reliable sight.

With that said, I'm very happy with Firmware version 5.1.04.476. The only bug I found is with the Mil-Dot reticle and it locked up once in 7 days.
@n2shooter Hi ! Again my 4k has started locking up at least once every time I use it I have not bothered wit the firmware fix, have you had any experience with the 4KPRO firmware fixes?

Thanks for the honest review. It seems like sometimes the only reviews I can find on products are manufacturer-sponsored, which often skip over the not-so-great details.
I'll be picking this scope up for my suppressed 22s. I have the 4k pro on my crossbow; and it has been good to me for more than a few seasons.
I initially had issues with mine, but firmware updates knocked them all out.
I suspect as updates roll out for the 5, they will fall in line as well.
The big draw for me is one battery vs 2. Cant tell you how many times I've accidentally left the ABL on and had to replace the battery.
The latest firmware has rectified nearly all of my issues. I will try and do a follow-up review in the next few weeks.

I would just like to throw it out there that with RAV, there is a minimum recoil impulse that needs to be picked up by the gyroscope before it will activate. Having said that, i am aware that some big bore airguns have a bit of recoil to them, and they SHOULD register.
I would just suggest making sure the firmware is absolutely up to date before getting deep in the weeds with it. The updates usually rectify some of these issues.
Even with the latest firmware, the RAV is not sensitive enough, even when I try and calibrate it to my airgun. My main reason for trying out RAV, was it was the only way to get 240fps video recording, but ATN now allows you to select 240fps recording and record manually, so I am happy with that! Thanks for the review, I think I’m gonna go with the Wraith 4k max based on your review and several others that have reviewed the X5 with the same issues. The Wraith doesn’t have the WiFi, but has pretty much everything else and they say the image quality is better as well….. i was gonna get the X5, but not gonna happen now
Again, in my sticky posted comment, all of my issues were resolved after I returned my device for repair. The Wraith may be a good choice if you don't want the fabulous Ballistics Calculator feature, which I depend on heavily!

I was going to get the new ATN Thor 5 XD, but I changed my mind when I was reviewing the differences in thermal performance from the newer 12um sensors to the older 17um sensors. The older sensors have lower thermal noise levels that the new ones. After comparing my AGM Taipan 256x192 12um thermal monocle with my 17um ATN THOR 4 640 scope, I'm glad I got the older one!

I'm really devastated now. I wanted to buy it soon. If it can't hold zero, then there's no point. In addition, the price is not exactly cheap. I'm really considering whether I shouldn't get the better 4K Pro. Thank you for the detailed video and the work and time you put into it.
I know what you mean. I'm glad I have my 4K Pro which has been very reliable for me, but I would really like the high quality video footage that the X-Sight 5 produces.
When I received my scope back, it had newer firmware on it that addressed most all of my bugs! So much so, that I'm going on a pesting session with it later this week.

Same old ATN. Releasing gear that's not ready. That's why I will not have anything to do with ATN products. I've learnt the hard way.
I just received my scope back today, and it's performing much better. Not perfect, but it holds zero, ballistic calculator is working and the Connect 5 Android App let's me rename my profiles. This is with a new 467?? firmware revision.
The thing is, you buy a product to be fully functional, not partially, not almost, not just about, but FULLY. That is why they make money; they know they can put out a cheaply manufactured sub par product and people will deal with it. Demand what they advertise man!

Hey there! Thank you for the video. I purchased the ATN x sight 5. I used it for one day on my FX impact M3. After blowing through $40 worth of pellets, I concluded the scope is junk. I had the most recent firmware update, and when going through the menu, the scope would freeze which would force me to do a hard reset. The ballistic calculator doesn’t work at all. I can’t believe they don’t get sued for false advertising. The screen is not 4K or at least it does not project a 4K image. You’d get a better picture out of a potato. The whole product development team needs to be fired, and all those scopes need to be recalled. Mine is on its way back for a refund will never do business with this company again. People need reliable products not this type junk. Again, I think they should be sued. This is horrible what they are doing the people that are spending the harder money for a scope that supposed to be so advanced. JUNK!
Also, the firmware that was in my scope, wasn’t even officially released yet! I called customer service three times, and they could not believe that I had a version of firmware on my scope that wasn’t even released yet. I had one guy walk me through everything and he couldn’t figure out why the scope wasn’t working correctly. Technical Support Staff wanted me to send the scope back… and they said it would be a two week turnaround. Now who wants to sit and wait for a new scope when hunting season is fast approaching? What if I were to get another dud…then the cycle just continues. ATN stated to me that I had 10 days to use the scope and return it for a refund if I wanted one. After the 10 days I would have to keep the scope and send it in for repairs every time something were to go wrong. Well I tell you what; it only took me one day to send it back! It just makes me so angry that they charge so much for this thing and they HAVE to know that the scope is not working because bad reviews are everywhere!!! if you work for ATN and are reading this, recall the scopes NOW!!!!
One of the reasons it took me so long to finish this review, is to try and get the tone accurate, but not nasty. Again, I do product development for a living, and if I would have released a product with this many obvious bugs, I would be fired. Full Stop.
I don't like that the sensor is not in a 16:9 aspect ratio like it is on my X-Sight 4K Pro, but I can sort of live with that. It does cause problems when you try and edit videos, as you either have to deal with black bars on the sides, or cut off the important information on the top and bottom.
I will disagree with you on the video quality, as it is a substantial upgrade from what was available on the 4K Pro unit. They turned valuable customers into beta testers, and I don't think they are going to recover from such a stupid business decision. They can't buy their way through this, by getting popular RUclipsrs to claim how great it is. I spent my hard earned cash on this scope, and I gave them every opportunity to get this situation correct. I initially intended on purchasing the Thor 5 XD, but I figured, I'd test out the platform first with the X-Sight 5, and I'm so glad I did.
Unfortunately, I had some friends that traded in their 4K Pro for a discount toward the X-Sight 5, and now, they are screwed, with no scope at all! The entire business development team needs fired, for releasing an unfinished product, and completely destroying, ATN's already shaky reputation.
I agree. As far as the image, look at your iPhone for reference. That is the minimum this scope should display and it is not even close. 4K is NOT even slightly blurry. 4K is SHARP! Again, great video and I am happy you were honest! The scopes need to be recalled.
Can you rename profiles now that the connect 5 app is out? Or is it only out for iPhone

I bought a few ATN scopes through the years and I’m tired of same thing with glitches in their software and the durability of their scopes like the X-Sight 4K that’s broken and I have done nothing but baby the scope . I’m probably done with them but will see I keep thinking the next scope will perform better be more durable, but we’ll see . insanity , Keep doing the same thing expecting different results. 5 different x-sights and 2 thermal scopes is what I have bought directly from Atn .
I recently bought my second THOR 4 and I've been very pleased with it. After my ATN X-SIGHT 5 5-25x LRF came back from service with a new firmware, it's worked very well and addressed most all my issues.
Wow I'm glad I watched this. It made me realize how far superior my wraith Mini 4k picture is compared to either of these. Like I'm not even joking or being stupid, if what he just showed is actually what you see when looking through either of these atn scopes I'd send them both back. My 4k mini looks like I'm watching a movie on my Samsung 4k TV in the house.
Yeah, you lose a ton of clarity when you use the 120fps mode, as that does not record is true 4K. I will do some more real-world videos in 4K as pesting season is upon us.

ATN and Sig must share the same product development team. Ill never understand why in this day and age, as quickly as information gets around, companies still think they can get away with using valued customers for beta testing.Guess ill hold off for a year till they get all the firmware bugs squared away.
I just don't get it either. Oftentimes they have promised revenue targets based on a set in stone release date. But if the product hits the market in as bad of shape as this did, you don't gain financially, you lose big time! The customers that are driven off may never return because of bad initial experiences. That is business 101! I have had decent luck with the 5.1.04.475 firmware version, when I received my scope back. But because I worry about some unforeseen bug, I just bought the THOR 4 640 2.5-25x scope and a separate ABL 1000 rangefinder instead of the THOR 5 LRF, because I don't have time to play the games with the new platform while I got permissions that are dealing with some bad raccoon and coyote problems.
My xsight 5 will be in next week for my new rifle build, hopefully i don't have the same issues out of mine.
Well, if it does have issues, I was able to return my X-Sight 5 and get is repaired in under a week from ATN.

These guys need new software engineers, unstable software is a core feature of ATN scopes. I went to Sightmark, not as many features but it always works.

How do you like those mounts? I am using the ones that came in the box but was thinking about getting those or the other more expensive one.
The mounts are okay. If you mount with the same torque, you can get 1-2 MOA repeatability most of the time. Good enough for groundhog and coyote, but not sure about anything smaller without checking zero. I use them on airguns, so I can't vouch for them on real steel.
Has the X Sight 5 improved since your video? I want to get this scope but I want the kinks ironed out and the app to work with the scope. Please let me know thanks.
Well, it has improved with the update last week, ( vs 706), but I am not sure if it's up to the competition now. Now that the Arken Zulus, and other scopes are shipping with integrated Laser Rangefinders and Ballistic Calculators, ATN has lost its marketing edge.

Obviously I won't be getting one of these if it is still as flawed as you state in your video. I get so tired of companies releasing their equipment to the public to do all the beta testing. However, I have had great success after Isent my scope back in for repair and firmware upgrade, which addressed most all of my issues. I'm currently using this scope during small game season, and I hope to pop it back on my crossbow for some deer hunting later this month.

If you go into settings and select zoom and change it to extended. Then you can zoom to 37.6x

I had to send my 5 back to ATN. We will see how it is when I get it back. I had planned to use it on an FX air rifle, but as it was when I sent it back- total paper weight. My ballistics was useless

I wanted to get the THOR 5 XD scope, but I decided to evaluate the 5 platform by getting the X-SIGHT 5, because that was a lot of money to spend. I previously owned a THOR 4 384 scope, and yesterday I just bought a THOR 4 640 2.5-25x scope. No way I'm sinking any money into the THOR 5 series right now, as it would probably be an expensive paperweight during the majority of hunting season.

Zero problems may also be related to the rangefinder and ballistic calculator. The new firmware that I currently have 5.1.04.476 is also available on ATN's website now.

Can you share your scope mount for X-sight 5? I use Aero Precision Ultralight 30mm Scope Mount, Standard but still too short.
I just use the ATN old QD mounts. $100.

I also have 2 ATN scopes, an X-Sight 4K Pro with ABL and an X-Sight 5 LRF.
2 Scope's ballistics calculator shows completely different data, with exactly the same gun/bullet parameters, at the same distances. (Lower left corner, under/over hold value)
Have you experienced such a phenomenon?
Yes, I have! This issue was present with firmware 5.1.04.461. I have not had this issue since I sent my scope back and it came updated with firmware 5.1.04.476.

It was bought with the 392, then it was upgraded to the 460, 461, and then to the 476 on the day of release.@@n2shooter
Can you share me how to calibrate RAV sensitive? I found nothing in ATN's manual. Also does RAV 240fps video record work every shot?Mine is FX Impact MKII. Thank you so much.
I have been unable to use RAV Calibration with my X-SIGHT 5 while using my FX Maverick VP .30cal. I have got it to work by banging on my scope, and when it did record 240fps video, but only for one second. 👹

I'm really debating on the 4k pro and the 5 on my fx m3 impact build, i hear alot of problems with the 5 and the ballistics calculator that's really to bad, iff it worked grate i would go for the X-sight 5.
I also heavily rely on the Ballistics Calculator, and I can assure you that it is working great on the X-Sight 5 with firmware version 5.1.04.476. 😃

I have had much better success with the latest 709 firmware. Holds zero, ballistic calculator works great. I have not tried RAV as of yet though, as I really would like to get some 240fps video. Unfortunately, the worst recording quality is when using 120fps mode, especially when you zoom in.
How did you get your scope to do extended zoom?
In the settings, you just change zoom from standard to extended.
I had a problem with renaming the different Profiles with the iOS with my X sight II HD. I found that If I used an android tablet with the Obsidian app on it I could rename those profiles
The profile name issue has been addressed when they released the new Connect 5 App.

I really have same you r ,I mean I had both but may spend bucks less than u because I did not buy ABL for my 4K yet. for my experience on both scope : what I do like X5 . #1 range finder came with scope . what I did not like : # 1software, the program Always did not respond , have no zoom wheel , have no Bluetooth only WIFI I just did buy Remote, the manual said when pairing need to turn on Bluetooth . both scope for my Impact 3 , 25cal , 700mm barrel . If u have anything want to comment on what said please .thanks
I had similar issues with the X-SIGHT 5, but it was mostly fixed with the latest firmware. I also use the remote on my X-SIGHT 4K Pro. I believe you must press two buttons at the same time on the remote in order to get it to pair after you go into the scope and say pair with the X-Trac. The old X-Trac won't work with the new X-SIGHT 5, you need the newer model. I have to order the new remote for my X-SIGHT 5 when I get some money.
Has a new firmware been released since you made this video?
Not to my knowledge. But they did release the Connect 5 phone app. Currently my scope is back at ATN, so let's see what firmware it comes back with.
I tried the connect 5 app and it wouldn’t stay connected. When it did, the live scope view didn’t work at all. Settings would work for a few clicks and then a white screen. It is far from ready to be released
Was feally interested in the xsight 5 advertised great features and sounds like an all singing and dancing sight the only scope you would ever need but hearing your experience think i will pass and get a pard
I have been very happy after I received my scope back from ATN with newer firmware.

Bitterly disappointed, I bought into the marketing hype on the x sight 5 now I’m on my 3rd unit with a hard factory erase and 470 firmware installed from ATN.
If it doesn’t hold zero now it’s going back and I won’t be buying ATN ever again.
Your so right - it shouldn’t have been released, someone should be sacked for this and ATN hold your head in shame.
As you can tell, I love ATN scopes, but I gotta call a spade a spade. A Hunters second most important investment after their weapon is the device that ensures the weapon hits its mark! In many cases, this optic's price rivals the weapon it's mounted on! We chose to make this investment so we can capture memories that will last a lifetime. ATN needs to get it together. It means nothing if just my scope is working correctly; everyone's needs to work just as advertised, I don't care if it's on an airgun, crossbow, or real steel. Keep us posted with how your latest scope performs, as I'm certain this information is helpful to a lot of people.
Are there same issues with the 3-15 Scope?
I would assume the issues are the same. Is the same electronics and same firmware with different optics.

Didn’t look focused when it was zoomed in.
This is a digital scope. The highest fidelity is when it's zoomed out all the way. Additionally, you will have more fidelity when you are in the 4K 30 fps resolution vs the 1080p 120 fps mode.
I believe this scope uses a bilinear filtering algorithm vs the nearest neighbor technique used in the X-SIGHT 4K Pro scope. They could have excellent quality if they allowed 1080p images at 30p, because then they could just linearly down scale. But what they do to increase the frame rate, is use a line skipping algorithm before they use bilinear filtering, which gives a double hit to the sharpness.

Oh ye just caught the end of your video, forgot about the absolutely terrible customer service, it’s non existent 😂😂 when mine started to go wrong nothing went back to the store and due to the hassle they now no longer will deal with ATN, 😂👎👎👎👎👎
That is always an unfortunate experience. When I sent my scope back, I got it returned in a week with a new firmware version that has addressed most all of my issues.

I hear you because I detest virtually all music in videos. Yet we're not in control of what we like or don't like.. Interestingly, this was the first time I actually liked music in a video. It's not up to us what we like.
