I love channels like this! Walking these trackbeds makes one realize how fast nature envelopes some features! When it comes to the plantation bit it looks as if there weren't as many trees that close to the embankment so maybe leaves may not have been such a problem on the line, but I could be wrong 😁 Thanks 👍
Thanks for your comments. I think you are right, I think they recognised the fire risk from steam engines so kept the line side clear.
