Depression was actually already in the first movie. The moment where the control pad stops working and none of the emotions can affect it is a metaphor for depression. Its numbness, complete lack of emotion. In the movie Riley’s clothes are color coded to show her emotions, and in the bus scene after she decides to leave she is fully wearing black. It was a decision made by anger, anger at the world and at herself, and then she can only feel free from it when she allows herself to feel sad and share her feelings. That little smile of relief she gives after she cries hugging her parents? Thats catharsis.
From the looks of it, we’re gonna meet: Ennui, Anxiety, Envy, and Embarrassment.

Before today, I never thought I'd say I love Anxiety, but I do. I'm really looking forward to this one. Given how amazing the first movie turned out, and most of the people working on it, I'm sure this will be great too. And I can't wait to see all the different emotion interactions.

Of all the sequels Disney announced months ago, Inside Out 2 and Zooptopia 2) are the ones I’ve been most intrigued and excited about. My friends and I were constantly wondering how they would execute Inside Out 2 outside of Riley being older, but they did more, and I’m genuinely excited. (But I swear, if we get enough death on BingBong’s level, that won’t hurt, that will paralyze)
Makes me wonder if Bingbong will come back, but as an idea, if Riley makes her own comic of his adventures.....
I'm just finding out Zootopia is having a second movie this is awesome.

i'm kinda scared for Zootopia 2, ever since the the movie came out there has been a lot of nonsensical criticism of the racial allegory, and knowing Disney i'm afraid they might try "correct" it just as they "corrected" the old Disney movies in the remakes
As someone who has anxiety (not just as an emotion just in general as a disorder) I love this so much and they're so cute 😭♥️ I never thought I'd say "I love anxiety" but I do

Also, I feel like depression would be an effect like brain freeze rather than an emotion. As showcased at the end of the first movie.
Depression is like a really strong sadness. So no depression is not an emotion. It’s more of a mental health kind of thing
Wow, i was younger than riley when watching the first movie but now Im older😭
When Riley was 11 in the first film, I was 12, so a year older than her, and in this one she's 13, I am 20, so 7 years older than her, 8 years older than her, if you count next year, because I'll be 21
One problem about the movie: The parents had the same emotion of Riley and if it is now said there are more than five.

To be fair Riley's parents were all gendered the same ie Mom had all females Dad had all males, while Riley had both. So idk if the parent's emotions matter much cause they were different than hers already.

OK I have to say it: Anxiety is very Spinel-core lol. Also, orange is apparently the least relaxing colour so it's perfect for Anxiety!

Ennui is boredom, tiredness and didsatisfaction. Its the feeling when you have given up on everything. Its basically the depression emotion

I should have predicted that Inside Out 2 would deal with the changing emotions of a person going through puberty.
Im a little surprised at the names of the newcomers. From the poster I expected Excitement, Embarrassment , and Apathy. Envy as it’s own person seems like a strange pull unless it is intended to be a more kid friendly stand in for desire, greed or lust.
I think it more like... Since Riley is a teenager now envy makes since because envy is just jealously so she could feel jealous of maybe the popular girl or the rich things like she could want more idk- I can relate to envy in alot of ways
I agree with the kid friendly thing. It would be inappropriate to have a lust character, and it wouldn't make sense to have an emotion that is just "Crush". I think it works to have an emotion that is just "I WANT THAT/TO BE THAT!"

Envy is a weird naming choice.. figured Jealousy would be better. but they might want to encompass Admire in there aswell
Embarrassment / Shame either are fine. Shame makes for a better name, but has a slightly more negative context then Embarrassment
i had to check what Ennui was. and it's basically Disappointment
now my real question is, are they Gunna address another emotion that comes with puberty? it would depend on how far past 13 we go... as "it" tends to not surface for awhile.
my prediction for which is which. Teal is Envy, Pink is Embarrassment, Indigo is Ennui
and if Ennui does say "i'm not mad, i'm not sad... just disappointed" i'll also be disappointed

I don’t get them making anxiety and others like it an emotion because all can be traced back to the core 5. You get anxious because of fear, depressed because of sadness, etc.

After 8 years, we finally got a sequel, I absolutely love the first Inside Out movie! And this is what exactly what I expecting for it’s sequel 🤩

While I was watching this video, I got interrupted with an ad (I know…typical RUclips to do that…) but that’s not it… the ad I got interrupted with was, and again, I still can’t believe it either, was for Inside Out 2… the EXACT ONE your reacting to in this video…and the interruption came in at 2:11 … so literally right weekend you get started to even react to it…

i actually dont get why is embarrassed a new emotion, disgust was already serving that same purpose at the end of the movie when Riley's parents showed up at the game with their faces painted
I noticed that the new emotions are similar to the ones we already got. Ex: anxiety is similar to fear. But Joy doesn't seem to have any similars. If it was in the movie, Joy's similar emotion would be Love.
I assumed the purple one was gonna be teenage angst

This movie feels like breaking canon for me...
The first movie focused on the 6 core emotions (minus "Suprise") as established by Paul Eckman. I found that a really cool detail!
And from the looks we got into other peoples heads, everyone in these universe has personifactions of those 6 core emotions in their head!
So why the fuck does Riley aparantly get the extra treatment of 4 extra "core" emotions?! Not to mention that "Anxiety" and "Emberassment" could technically fall under the emotion "Fear", or maybe a combi between "Fear" and "Disgust"!
They'll better have a really good explanation for that...but I honestly don't have much hope for that
Also, wouldn't Riley not alredy have owned the emotion "Envy" if that is a "core emotion" in this univers?! She was envyous of her best friends new friend in the first movie!

I already watched the first inside out movie when I was younger in several years and I loved it. I saw the trailer for the second movie and I'm curious about it and I'm curious about Anxiety and the new emotions and what they are going to be. I think anxiety is like fear. I guessed the other new emotions will be embarrassment, jealousy and boredom which is Ennui but I never heard of that emotion before. I still think love could be a new emotion for Riley but that emotion wasn't announced so far.

I get Ennui and Envy (boredom and jealousy, makes sense), but Anxiety and Embarrassment feel like they are parts of fear, especially since in the first movie Fear was definitely giving off tons of anxiety and embarrassment responses. But at the same time being a teenager is just being a giant ball of anxiety and embarrassment at all times, so I can see why the people making the movie would want them to be their own characters to play with rather than trying to map those things onto an already existing character.

Hmm it's actually a thing when you say Fear gives off tons of anxiety and embarrassment responses. They are like, when things happened to Riley.
It can be a bit complicated to understand since there are different emotions theories.
So there are terms called "Primary Emotions" and "Secondary Emotions".
Primary emotions are direct emotional reactions to a situation, and they are called primary because they come first. It is your very first reaction to a situation or devent, and they alert you about your needs.
Secondary emotions are the emotions that are often felt after the primary emotion has been experienced. They are the reactions to our primary emotions and are often habitual or learned responses.
The purpose of secondary emotions is to cover up the sensitive primary emotions with something less sensitive. In this way, they are a way of protecting the self from being vulnerable.
Below are some other main differences between primary and secondary emotions.
Primary emotions:
+ Are instinctive and natural
+ Functional
+ Can be painful or pleasurable
+ Can be harmful when reacted to
+ Are sensitive and vulnerable
+ Are rooted in the deeper parts of the brain
+ Can help keep us connected with others
+ Can help guide our actions
Secondary emotions:
+ Are learned or habitual
+ Protective
+ Defensive and avoidant
+ Can be better controlled than primary emotions
+ Can numb emotions
+ Do not listen to what the emotions are asking
+ Comes from a place of learning, e.g., ‘I should not feel sad’ or ‘I should not feel any anger.’ This is not the same as self-control.
+ Are motivated by pain reduction
+ Linger around long after the event has happened
+ Generally, leads to distance and disconnect from our goals, values, and people
In the poster, the four emotions appear underneath the five basic ones. So according to the Secondary Emotions Theory for Inside Out 2, Anxiety, Ennui, Embarrassment and Envy can be those "secondary emotions".
Plus, Anxiety and the rest seem to just "move in", but not born from the dark like Joy. Where were they all the time?
Before puberty hits Riley, what she felt wasn't too complex for the five basic emotions to handle. But now, she is more aware of herself, and the surrounding environment, how she would react to it. She may feel more self-conscious.
Now speaking of Fear and Anxiety, Fear's job is to get the body prepare to fight or flee. While Anxiety's job is reacting to the emotions versus danger in the environment. Anxiety is a stop-reaction to the impulses that fear and other core emotions create inside the body. For instance, Fear mobilizes energy for movement and Anxiety pushes it back down.
This is a complex topic to talk about and Inside Out 2 may want to carry this out so we can have a simpler look to it.

As much as I'm excited for the new movie, i feel like adding more emotions is unnecessary. Cuz the main 5 mix their emotions already to make new ones like in the end of the first movie. But I'm still excited to see what they do.
The emotions do kinda track with a kid growing into their awkward teen years. Oooh, not fond memories.
I'm gonna say Enui or Boredom (whatever) is gonna be rather snobby or a high horse type because they choose to use some fancy name for themselves instead of being called the emotion they are: Joy, Sadness, Anger, ect.
Also the movie needs to explain why Riley has mix gendered emotions while her parents only have their own gender. TBH that is the only question I need answers to.
