When ed sherman talked about singing feed the birds on walts 100th bday and the bird flew down. I teared up. Such an amazing moment. I love Walt Disney
Mary Poppins was a big part of my childhood, and was almost a religion to me, because of the depth in emotion and the way so much of the movie resonated with me, spiritually. When I saw the movie in the theater after it first came out, it was like I was being transported to another universe, and yet felt very familiar as well.
i'm really impressed with how their acting was so realistic even though most (or all) of the film was shot in a black room... how boring! i just love this
I truly believe Walt had an element of magic to his self, to create such incredible beauty and magic in movies. You cannot convince me magic was not involved
Walt was a genius. He not only was a master at fabulous creative ideas but he saw talent in others and drew that around him and then trusted them and his judgement of them. What a national treasure we have lost and the disney company will never be the same
Giggidygiggidy12 mee too I member one day my mother maquillage in my face in chat for december and one channel in movie m6 exciting before mary poppins Returns saving mr banks ilove movie
Is that supposed to mean something. Mary Poppins is a family film. It is for all ages and you probably saw it as a child anyway. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
We are all in a way the child at heart For the lost child in all of us. The many lost childhoods. Many men and women who was in films and was the same.some are Judy Garland, Dick van Dyke And there's many others.those worlds where we all can be children again.
This making-of itself is precious to anyone who also loves the original movie! Thank you so much for the six parts, I´m certainly downloading them all!
How ironic and sad that the youngest actor in Mary Poppins was the first to pass away. Rest in peace Matthew. I don't know how exactly you passed so young at only 20/21 yr of age, i am deeply saddened and sorry to hear about this, I didn't know until watching this documentary. You did a marvelous job in this movie.
Imagine all the newer movies he could of made that were never made when he was alive like if he was alive I'm pretty sure he would tons of new Disney movies I just wonder what they could have been if he was still alive
@@Ourfriendvirch I think things would be alot different but I think it was meant to be that way. I think if he stayed alive we wouldn't have The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, & Lion King. They're much different in style & structure than the movies he made when he was alive. Plus I'm pretty sure he would have retired before movies like Princess & The Frog and Up came out.
CC Workout and Covers Walt just wanted to milk the cash cow and he completely destroyed the original Mary poppins writers vision for her characters. Also most of the iconic classics came out after he’d died so.... can’t really see it
Seeing Glynis Johns here reminds me of how all of my various obsessions seem to be connected - in this case, Disney and Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. When Sondheim was being mentored by Oscar Hammerstein, he wrote a musical of Mary Poppins as one of his assignments. Years later, Sondheim wrote "Send in the Clowns" for Glynis Johns when she originated the role of Desiree in A Little Night Music.
seems to me it was Disney writers who found all the talent and brought it to Walt's attention... he was a genius, but in picking the right staff and people who designed and created his imaginings
A little bit of trivia: Glynis Johns, pictured in the beginning of this clip with Hermione Baddeley, is the daughter of Mervyn Johns who played Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol....Mrs. Cratchit was played in the same movie by Hermione Baddeley...
“Oh it’s a jolly Holliday with Mary , Mary makes your heart so light! When the day is grey and ordinary , Mary makes the sun shine bright! Oh happiness is blooming all a round her , the daffodils are smilin at the doves , when Mary holds your hand you feel so grand your heart starts beating like a big brass band, oh it’s a jolly holiday with Mary , no wonder that it’s Mary that we love cmon you two (my part as Jane Banks “Boring Just like other nannies thinking parks are good for us , it’s just statues, ducks, as grannies I don’t understand all the fus “is she doing it to spite us “we could loose her for a lark “perhaps it’s all a plot “I’ll tell you what “she seems so different but I bet she’s not “there is nothing to excite us in the park
They didn't have green screen or blue screen back then - they had black screen. (I guess it's so that the black parts could later be filmed over.) It was certainly a HUGE improvement over the effects in The Three Caballeros. (Where the actors would perform in front of a screen displaying the animated characters.)
Yes her name is Karen Dotrice.. She and her sister Michelle were famous actresses in England ,daughters of the late Roy Dotrice who was also one of our British Actors ..;-)
Sydney Peppell I don’t think he would. Disney movies today don’t have the same magical effect as they used to with everything being hand drawn. Now a days it’s all computer based.
I play in Mary poppins Jr at my school I play one of the children I got Jane Banks my best friend got Michal but they changed it to a Michelle because she’s a girl
What would he do with a dime? He couldn’t use it as he didn’t live in America. Also, Karen said he loved jumping off things, so how could he be scared of heights?
The little girl, actress Karen Dotrice, said in 2013: “If I’d had my way, I’d never have done any of those films... children should be doing their homework and outside riding horses.” Later on, she told The Telegraph: “I would never have done... “ the film in hindsight, insisting children should have time to “grow at their own pace.” It appears, that despite her cheerful presence here, she still doesn’t have a clue as to the fantasy film that Mary Poppins was. What are fantasy films for? To help us escape the hum drum of daily life. They are not a recipe for a full-time lifestyle. PS. Personally, I am also rather surprised at her “atrocious” grammar, every time she opens her mouth. PPS. Why does she appear in this The Making of MP if she disapproves of the whole film on principle?
To be fair, her parents were actors and she 'fell' into being a child actor. Perhaps she felt uncomfortable being an actor but didn't know any different. Parents can be pushy, even with the best intentions. When she was older she continued as an adult actress for a while but decided to quit acting as she wasn't enjoying it. She was happy to play a cameo part in the recent sequel. Mary Poppins was an important part of her childhood as well as ours, immortalised on film for generations.
A classic that will live on forever.
When ed sherman talked about singing feed the birds on walts 100th bday and the bird flew down. I teared up. Such an amazing moment. I love Walt Disney
This movie was so ahead of its time
It was practically perfect in every way
thanks
Mary Poppins has always been both my favorite Disney and Julie Andrews movie considering how cheerful the scenes and songs are.
I miss films like this
Mary Poppins was a big part of my childhood, and was almost a religion to me, because of the depth in emotion and the way so much of the movie resonated with me, spiritually. When I saw the movie in the theater after it first came out, it was like I was being transported to another universe, and yet felt very familiar as well.
Mary Poppins is still top 1 movie in my heart💖… I had a tendency to depression before, but Mary Poppins saved me😢… Love Mary Poppins FOREVER💫……
this is by far one of the best Making Of stories of all time
i'm really impressed with how their acting was so realistic even though most (or all) of the film was shot in a black room... how boring! i just love this
"Here is his feet flying all around, stepping on my penguins." Hahaha! What a wonderful movie Mary Poppins is!
'waiters have always reminded me of penguins' love Walt Disney!
I ❤ Mary Poppins as Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke as Bert and Jane Banks as Karen Dotrice.
I truly believe Walt had an element of magic to his self, to create such incredible beauty and magic in movies. You cannot convince me magic was not involved
"...So I was loosing more penguins."
Love the way he says that.
Mary Poppins as Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke as Bert loved it.
"Waiters have always reminded me of penguins."
Can't stop laughing! Just pure brilliance!!!
I love 2D Handdrawn animation! We need it back for Disney!
A masterpiece and one of my all time favorite movies. I still remember my Nanny Mary (Grandmother) taking me to see this at Radio City Music Hall.
RIP David Tomlinson and Matthew Garber.
Dick and Julie both did a fantastic job making this movie! I loved it.
Mary Poppins was made for Julie Andrews & vice versa! The rest is history! Timeless & epic it has become!
mlc HC They just did a remake with another actress as Mary Poppins! NO WAY!
Walt was a genius. He not only was a master at fabulous creative ideas but he saw talent in others and drew that around him and then trusted them and his judgement of them. What a national treasure we have lost and the disney company will never be the same
I’ve never seen this movie in its entirety, but I know almost every song! Now that 50 years have passed, I think I shall watch it!!!!!
2017 & still loving Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins!
I'm a grown man, and I love this film

Loved this film and my kids loved it to never grow tired of watching it
Mixing real people with fantasy was so fantastic! I think it was the first time in my life when I saw it in Mary Poppins
Dick and Julie must be protected at all costs too pure for this world ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for uploading this!
Only one man could take waiters and make them penguins. Walt you genius you~

He contracted hepatitis while in India and it spread to his pancreas. So it was too late to save him.
😭😭😭
I love the film of sleeping beauty and it reminded me of when I was younger child. Carol Wilson
4:54 Walt was doing FX design!
Ed Wynn-The "Queen" of his time.
Many penguins were lost on the dance sequence. 😂
I feel like Disney movies would be a lot better now if Walt was still alive

Really? "Oh, Dopey. Aladdin is so pure . . . like Uptown selling liquor. A safe place to drop off the kids.

Amaaziing production

6:49 those noises always crack my up! I'll just call it The Penguin Song.
This movie is just excellent and magnificent!! Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke are tops. It is definitely a classic.
I'm a grown man and I too love this film. I had the vhs as well but now m unaware of it's whereabouts.
I also have the vhs! I watched parts of it two days ago. It still looks amazing!
Poor Matthew Garber...only 21 years old
Mary poppins ( 1964) was the nr.1 succes movie of 1965!
seems to me it was Disney writers who found all the talent and brought it to Walt's attention... he was a genius, but in picking the right staff and people who designed and created his imaginings
My favourite film of all time r. I. P Mathew garber
Loved Ed Winn!
I love the songs
💘 Love this 🎥 movie

Opposite Alistair Sim, whose Scrooge is so definitive that to all others I can only say: Bah, humbug!
"Im losing penguins every day" i dont know why but i liked that line
“Oh it’s a jolly Holliday with Mary , Mary makes your heart so light! When the day is grey and ordinary , Mary makes the sun shine bright! Dick van dykes face at 7:55 cracked me up!
Penguins! Genius!

When father of the bride was remade in the 1990s they changed Stanley Banks to George Banks because of this movie
2:43
I bet Julie Andrews had a hard time keeping a straight face during this scene.
the blonde woman, which i am assuming is grown up jane (because i haven't watched the other videos) sounds so much like julie!!!
10GGundam I play in Mary Poppins Jr and I got the part of Jane Banks
I think that the blonde woman is actually Glynis Johns.
Yes her name is Karen Dotrice..
She and her sister Michelle were famous actresses in England ,daughters of the late Roy Dotrice who was also one of our British Actors ..;-)
I totally agree. Honestly thought it was Julie speaking.
Brilliant, thanks for sharing 🙂
i love this
I'm sad Sister Suffragette wasn't in the musical. Oh well. David Tomlinson was such a great actor, R.I.P.
And how did they do the jumping to the picture?
Walt Disney! Magic! Would he like the movies of today? Hmmmmmm. Food for thought.
I am going to be dressing up as Mary poppins
Me...I want to be one of the penguins. That would be a real hoot!!!
legendary
great documentry but i dont think david tomlinson gets anouth credit for his part,
David and Glynis were perfect. It made me want to move to London.
8:10 it's pinkie pie! :D
Just a shpoonful of shugar makes da medashin go down.
Hermione Baddely.... Mrs Naugatuck!!!!
Certainly not to be confused with Hermione Gingold or hermione granger
6:49
I watched "Saving Mr. Banks" a few years ago and enjoyed it more than watching the original "Mary Poppins".
Too bad the "Mary Poppins" author didn't like it but... she cashed her checks anyway.
@Videot01 which one is david tomilinson again?
