Nice work, did some similar projects and wanted to know about treated wood containing harmful chemicals? Example the use of chromated copper aresenate which increases the risk of cancer? Were those pieces treated wood since we have the same use for them and where they stained or sealed in anyway when you did your project? Thanks
Great question and concerns. These were originally pressure treated but were about 15 years old and had never been retreated, stained or sealed. My thinking, while not scientifically proven, was that after 15 years everything that had been put on them was gone.
Freedom Kongvold I’m speaking on behalf of my father -in law, a contractor for more that 25 years. Pressure treated wood does not just “wash away”. It isn’t like a topcoat or stain. It is infused in the cellulose of the wood. Check the stamp. Anything with CCA is most harmful.
Just to elaborate, look at the fence. If no chemical was leftover, there would be living things all over it. Fungi, moss, plants and other insects would easily make that their hole. If it wasn’t teeming with life there is likely a reason for it. Not trying to knock ya’. I went headfirst in building a three tier planter box for growing veggies using old pressure treated lumber. My father in-law explained why it wasn’t a good idea and I had to just walk away from it. 😔 Btw even if it’s not CCA, the copper based treated wood will destroy aluminum. Be very aware as to what hardware you put that stuff up with!
Hey man. I really like all these projects. I'm getting ready to do an accent wall/headboard. Can you explain your process of prepping the wood for use? Wire brush? Any chemicals? Any sanding for splinter prevention?
Zachary Trendelman all I did was put a wire brush to it. It removed the dirt, splinters, and junk that was on it. Then you can dust them off with a rag or use your air compressor to clean them off. Good luck!
The connection strap you used on the shower shelves is called plumbers tape. Nice work.
Awesome! Got a whole bunch laying around was looking for ideas. Been staining a bunch of old pieces of furniture around the house. Thanks man

@@neurotika Great info! This would did have some slight moss and algea that I wire brushed off so that must mean it was good to go. Thanks!
Bet you catch the house on fire if you build a fire. Thats not code🤔
there is fire retardant spray that you can use for this stuff, its how old matchsticks are allowed to be used in new construction
Love it

@@freetotryit awesome. Great to know! Thanks!
Wire brush in a drill. A belt sander or what I like to do is check the board with a magnet and get to planing it flat and square.
Cool
You sound like putty from seinfeld lol
I did it with the Stodoys plans.
