I'm a vegetarian in the Army and they only have like three vegetarian options for the MREs. Everyone was always fighting for the Chili Mac while I just wanted the Ratatouille . The struggle was so real.
We always fought over vegetarian MREs because they always had the best snacks & desserts lol. Also, Jalapeño Cheddar dip over peanut butter. That is all😂

When i lived with my dad we were going through some tough times money wise and a family friend gave us 3 huge boxes of MREs so i lived off of them for a while. I ended up trying every desperate random combination you could make lol. The Chili Mac was def in the top 3.
We def have eaten MREs that my husband brought home from the field that he didn’t eat. Our neighbor actually gave us a bunch because I find them so interesting. The MRE cheese spread I used to be obsessed with and would be my comfort stress eating food when I was taking accounting classes and not able to sleep.

It's so funny how other cultures and even Americans react to MRE's. I've spent sooooo much time in the fields to include the desert, backwoods, and swamps that I can't stand to even look at them anymore. But I had a mega surplus of them when I retired and all the hunters thought they were in heaven when I gave them to them. Didn't even sell them, just gave them all away for free. This is hilarious!

Yes. My son keeps his skittles and trades them when he gets a crappy MRE. He hates the gum. He says it works like a laxative and hits you when you least expect it. 🤗
I know a youtuber who tastes army MREs and he also said the gum will make you laxative and not sure but I think he also said 4 or 6 of those gums you get laxative and sorry not sure how to put it into words.

My dad said when he went to join up he asked around at the v.f.w what branch had the best food. he was told the navy and so he joined up. the irony is he ended up becoming a bubblehead (sub mariner) and they were talking about food on the carriers. 😂 Still he became a nuclear engineer so I think it worked out haha

And among the many Navy assignments, submarines serve the best food. Small crew so it's a lot easier to maintain the quality of the food than it is on a carrier with say 4000 to 5,000 people.
I was on a carrier. Imagine preparing food for 5000 men four times a day. Rush rush rush.

@@watsenju1103 he got discharged almost a year before that video was shot thus why he has earrings, wrong shirt, and they are most likely in Korea so he might have just had to put something on related to the military only for this video which maybe explains why he is in the wrong uniform? just my guess

Beef Stew was my favorite MRE. People im BCT would sell their skittles in their MRE for hundreds (never knew why... it was literally 2.5 months... after that was the tech training and we got to get whatever from our little shop, go off base for the weekend if we passed our inspections and physical tests). The gum does not actually make you poop btw, idk why he said that (literally just a rumor... hall eggs do have the stuff from the week zero shot that take away sexual desire however). With the gum, older MRE's may have had that effect, but I joined in August of 2015 and from that point forward I can tell you about MRE's (I went to Fort Jackson South Carolina for BCT and Fort Lee Virginia for Tech Training in the Army as a 91B Mechanic, it's technically wheel vehicle mechanic but they call it all vehicle mechanic). My bct and base may not be the same as others, so don't just take my word on it. I can't claim how others operated, only where I have been during my time period specifically.

beef stew and the chinese soup one is my favorite. Chilli mac is good but I think the hype is largely cultural in the military. It's like in the civilian world everyone loves pizza, even though its just average, but still tasty nontheless.
sometimes when I eat and since I eat slowly the food gets boring like for me having pizza will get me bored even though I not had it either long time or few weeks and maybe few months and there is other foods that I will get bored of eatting because I keep on chewing it.

I was in USMC when they switched from C-rations to MREs. It looks like they've improved. I remember getting dehydrated strawberries, too. We didn't have a drink or heat pack option back then, but they still made you constipated.😂
Doing field training exercises in basic we only had like 10 minutes to eat an MRE making it impossible to heat it up so then you just eat it cold and it ends up not being too bad. I was a 92G (culinary specialist) and the day we got the pizza added to the menu was pretty sweet to just have some new stuff.

Was never in combat but I don’t think they make them that way on purpose; they’re just loaded with preservatives and stuff. But who knows I could be wrong lol
@@kovots actually, suprisingly. US MREs don't have that much preservatives. The standard stuff sure, but actually not a lot nor anything wild or unique. Basically safe preservaties that help with color retention. Other than that, its your general salt/sugar stuff.
Modern US MREs are done with Modern canning practices, by pretty high standards to. A lot of stuff gets cooked like 3-5 times before actually becoming an MRE. The dish is cooked when made, sometimes before packing and during packaging. Then again after packing for sterilization reasons. Several more times to, as the product is chilled and even frozen, thawed and recooked to check for errors and leakage.
Guys he said “when he was in the army” read the subtitles jesus lol. He’s a vet not active duty. Hence the earrings and the patch less marine uniform. Also some people don’t like MRES who cares. People have different tastes.
I never had american mre's,but the Canadian ones i had weren't bad,beef stew and sausage and hashbrowns were my two favorites

I was never in the army or had anyone who I knew served but I remember my school would bring some when they would talk about how life was in the army and I remember I did like a few of them and others were not it lol. My dad was given some too for free and I remember I enjoyed the brownies a lot. I think I enjoyed the Mac and cheese and spaghetti. I wish I could remember what else I’ve tried before.

He’s literally a civilian in the video (video was filmed 9 months after he stopped serving) and they probably filmed this in Korea so they just gave him whatever to wear. As for the American army thing, he probably said that since he’s communicating to ppl who don’t speak English fluently. If he was around Americans he’s say us military. I’m wondering why the American guy is not in uniform regulations? The color and pattern of Army OCPs aren’t tan and the t shirts are tan not dark. And I think earrings for males are also not allowed. Let alone the fact that they are hoops. Also where are his name tapes, patches and ranks?

@@jessicawong8505 Sorry, but I’m also ex military. We earned the right to wear this uniform and we were taught to wear it right. If he’s ex military that’s great, but then he should know better what that uniform means to this country and the people. My friends have died in this uniform and I’ve worked hard for it. If you can’t understand the value behind this uniform you have no say in what’s right or wrong about it. The uniform means just as much as the flag that goes up at the break of dawn and goes back down at night. We fight for this country and the people, we voluntarily signed up to be brave and have integrity. Yet here you comment it’s not a big deal.

As for uniform colors he’s not earring the exact uniform because I’m pretty sure ur not suppose to wear it for programs like these. They wearing a fake or sth similar to not get flagged. So let’s not play the pity card and bring up death (r.i.p) when that was not in our topic at all. Also name tapes patches and ranks r probably not shown to protect his privacy from people like u. So like I said let’s just enjoy the video and not complain about every little thing. So yes it’s not a big deal cuz half of it is guidelines yt has to follow and the other half is u being sensitive to a man not being allowed to wear an earring.
