My friend in 8th grade would occasionally bring in MRE's to eat at lunch. Year later (present day (freshmen)) he's now training for the Navy. Yeah, he was a military kid.

Norways are amazing, and alot of other European countries are pretty good but they dont come with a heater so you have to find a way to cook them

A very big thank you to all United States Marine, Navy, Military, Armed Forces and all the others I cannot thank you all enough for safety of our country. Seeing this was wonderful and their sacrifices cannot be thanked enough. These foods look amazing and I'm proud and fascinated by this. A real eye opener. Thank you all who participated and those who served our country as well for this video.

As someone who served, I can tell you that MREs are a fantastic survival ration. I recommend stocking up on them if you live in an area where natural disasters occur often.

I never served any time but my grandma would always buy them when we were going camping and they were so nice.
Eat the gum once in a while, I hear all that salt ain’t good so a bit of that “gum” will clear out your system.
My dad has a ton of them, I even have a case in my house rn.
The fact that you don’t need any sort of fire to heat your food is really convenient and amazing
I thought they still came with laxative gum. I had MRE’s while at was at encampment just a few years ago and the gum was in it. I made the mistake of chewing like 10 pieces at once. I regretted everything.
You poor soul I had to take laxatives for weeks at the hospital so I could poop after my surgeries and boy when that shit came out I was mad 😭 not too long after that I had to return and they wanted me to get those laxatives again I was like hell nah I still got diarrhea from the last time 😭😭
They still come with the gum. I went to basic training this last summer and we ate MREs all the time. Every one had the gum in it but we weren’t allowed to chew it.

Not to mention, the packaging said "Meant for when soldiers can't have a proper meal" a very vague way of saying deployed.
I don't think the military would be very happy to hear that causalities have increased due to multiple incidents of enemy troops spotting a bush pull out a neon yellow bag with a knife and fork.
Her reaction to the laxative gum totally cracked me up. Those were a lifesaver, that food WILL plug you up!
I lived in southeast Houston when Ike hit. My car was damaged to the point it would not run, and we were without electricity/water for over 24 days. Some of the volunteers brought us boxes of MREs and I tell you when you're hungry these things are freaking fantastic.
They gave us these and a case of water and the meals saved us. I had no way of getting food or water for a while.
Our military eats them and they don't complain.

I come from a military family and love these! I've had so many. I call them war lunchables. 🤣
I used to eat these as a child. No matter what it was I ate mine cold. As children we'd sometimes take them for lunch and trade bits and pieces with our lunch mates.

When I was in the Army, C Rats were what the Army used. Then somewhere along the line, they switched to MREs. I liked the C Rats better but the MREs weren't bad. With the MREs we had back then, there was no easy way to heat them up. I guess they figured you would use your mess kit. I worked in a radio van and used the heat from the radios to heat mine. Before MREs, I used the 10KW generators to heat the C Rats by setting the can on the exhaust manifold.

Eating MREs isn't always a war thing. We had them during training exercises too.

The MRE's are all made in a factory, it is the shelf life that makes them so valuable. Those things can sit for 10 years or so and still be good to eat. One entire meal in a plastic bag that will sustain you.

This is one of the perks of being in a military family where your grandparents and parents both went to the military, I love mre's so much that I asked for them for my birthday and for Christmas and have since I was able to like eat them and know how to work them, are we literally stuck up because I love them so much.

Some MREs have gum in red packages and others have gum in clear packages. The red packages are laxatives. Learned that the hard way when I was in the field

This cracks me up. When my dad brought out his old MREs from the 90s he was so excited to try them again and make his favorite meals. I think it was meatballs. His friends would put the tiny Tabasco sauce in their eyes to stay awake and use the plastic holding the food as shoes to keep their feet dry. My dad is a simple man and I respect that.

people are forgetting that this food isnt really meant to look presentable and taste delicious, the purpose of these meals is to cut hunger and provide all the necessary calories and vitamins/minerals for military soldiers. When the woman said "this isn't cooked with love" I was like no shit it's not restaurant food.

Especially in combat or in a survivalist situation.
Some MREs suck, but MOST I was impressed with.
There are a few I still pick up because I like them. It's like Mom's apple pie, on a really bad day.
