    I love the reporter at the end…”Remember folks, always obey the FAA’s regulations, because if you have something that is capable of outmaneuvering all of our aircraft, there’s nothing we can do about it. That would really hurt the FAA’s feelings though.”

    Gas and hybrid drones have existed for years. They're more expensive than battery-powered drones, but hobbyists and students have built them in their garages. Some have recorded flight times of several days, and others have recorded speeds well over 100MPH because they can use higher power motors. The fastest racing league drones have now passed 160MPH. I'd guess this was someones very expensive toy.

      I would agree with that . Now if they are near a military site I would hope it would get shot down as it is restricted air space,

      It also could of easily and more likely probably was a fixed wing drone or air craft which is a lot less money to build has a lot of the same capabilities that are being described in the incident and are also very easily obtainable. Im thinking it maybe more likely that it was someones fixed wing drone that was doing a long range flight they knew was illegal and figured ditching the drone was better then landing and risking arrest and huge fines because they if they know enough to build something like that they would likely also know what the risks are for getting caught doing this stuff. Also what crossed my mind is that this could be a hoax and something maybe the faa drummed up to push for further support of theyre newly planned remote identification system requirements for all legal drone operators but what people fail to understand is that wouldnt of made a difference here as this was obviously a rogue operator and they likely wouldnt comply with remote id requirements anyways when they do finally come out with them.

    Any one can make a drone or UAV that has Model Radio Control experience. The parts i bought 17 years ago: After market Controller link was specked for 60 miles with rubber ducky antenna, hit at least an hour of air time @50mph with a live video link good for 20 miles and that is what 2000 Canadian bucks got you. today someone spending, hmm lets say 15k could easily hit 300kts with a satellite link for beyond human site flight ops. 2003 the Governments of the world started writing laws to remove Model radio Controlled aircraft from our skys and it will only take one really good operation that will end up taking the model aircraft/ drone industry out of the civilian's life experience for ever.

      Agree. Over 10 years ago, guys were easily flying 25 miles out, and returning, with "high tech" fpv equipment, that is caveman tech today. So factoring it all in, it's not THAT expensive to ( 10 to 20 K) to get a self built one of a kind, non military drone going. And probably right, due to idiots with no regard to airspace, and safety, SOMEONE ( public/gov't) is going to fuck us over, for complete RC model shutdown. Or extremely regulated/expensive permissions to fly, it wont be worth it to have RC any more. ( except dumbed down amazon/walmart "toys" ...if legal at all.)

      It will be a Military Black ops program that is starting the shaping exercise in the public's eye, soon you will see a drone/ Model aircraft that is packed with plasteek that will be used in a hit that will wipe out the Civilian Model aviation and Drone industry in North America in an instant. It will be news for not even a week and will decimate the Model Aviation industry all over the world. But then again that is a lot of money to spend and skill to fly a 300knot toy into a human target hit when every ones that it is way cheaper to hit your target with some really good drugs and watch them Over dose and die, and you might be that lucky one that ends up with a snuff film.

    Hybrid drone system isn’t very expensive now. Small 4 stroke gas engine running a generator with a electric power management setup powering electric drone motors. These are not dod level stuff. Many are being marketed to surveyor companies and the like. 6-12 hour flight times with enough payload to carry various types of survey equipment. These machines make helicopters look like ancient technology and can run circles around them. Heck search RUclips on hybrid powered drones. You’ll get pages of videos.

    It's also possible the border patrol got p'ed off by a drone near them; contacted PD; PD misread how fast the drone was moving because of descent rate; and that the drone pilot never did anything illegal. There are also statements in the report that say the PD never actually witnessed the drone. Just saying, sometimes the easiest answers are the right ones.

    2013 Gem show, I was staying at a friend’s house while visiting. One night around 8pm, I went outside to have a smoke and noticed TPD Police Helicopter (red and blue markers) coming low and fast maybe 1-200ft over the row of houses toward me, with a bright beam of light in front of it. However, when it flew over me, it was hauling ass and loud as hell. What I thought was its searchlight was a ball of light maybe 50-100 feet in front of it!!! I shit you not!! I went to the gem show the next day and asked a Policeman at the gem show if he heard of a chopper - UFO chase. He didn’t hear anything but acted very curious.

If this was someone in their garage I want to learn from him. Seen one hack cell towers to keep in RC range, but this? If it was military, someone was taking a piss, and if they're lucky, got VERY lucky when they had the talk.

    The funny part is, it's not all that expensive like they're making out to be. It's only going to be probably $5,500 total "the thing is the dont specify its the same type of drone in the video or if it like a mock military drone", using a specific drone kit and batteries that are going to cost more then the entire drone itself to build. Probably 2000 on the right drone kit and 3500 on the proper battery cells. If it a standard type of drone, as stated in the start like I said 5500 max and standard knowledge. If it's a military mock like uav depending on the situation, it could have cost 20k-100's... but if thay were the case people would have had clear videos of the situation. Any standard drone with a camera and be reset to fly by pc, if you have a random phone Sim or even two make it easier you can link the pc and drone together to fly like you were flying a military uav.

They don't want anyone to have "drones" rc hobbyist in the air even though rc flying is one of the most safest areas in aviation and been around longer than the crappie FAA that has caused general aviation prices to sky rocket on aircraft and parts. Now they are trying to price amd make expensive requirements for the hobbyist.

    look for alternate energy signatures. Also consider magnetic resonance to spot it. Use lasers to eliminate them using a hybridized image following and laser system. if a resonance imager is on the chopper they could spot it . Most matter that is above absolute zero will have an energy signature of some type. He must not fly drones because any drone pilot know thats impossible, and to tell the public it was a drone that a hobbyist was in control of. Military hardware dont go that fast, maybe an attack, but most glide because its efficient. 5hp honda pressure washer motor, no landing gear, designed to idle at 18k feet, out of sight and sound, 50mi transmission, electric remote start, and able to glide home if high al honda fails, digital-optical thermal zoom, distance can read license plate on day lens (classified), oh yea run time. People need to follow the law, or they are going to start putting, even more restrictions & regulations, than they already have done, on us drone pilots. When I started messing around with drones, there wasn't any regulations at all, on ware & when you could fly, unless it was very close to a airport, now they are starting to regulate the hell out of our hobby. It sucks.

    As an amateur radio operator, I can safely say that this drone must have been controlled by a satellite link. You figure out the rest.

      Wouldn't that be dangerous as the high latency could delay control and reaction time? And do drones linked to a cellular carrier network have better or worse latency than satellites one?

    • @kf3en
      @kf3en 3 года назад

      @@codeorbs Low earth orbit satellites have low latency. That is what Starlink is all about. Cell service could also work in a similar way. Did not consider that, but it would be more easily traceable.

      Latency at ground level would be much worse than at altitude, most interference and other things like latency are much less ,especially those 8000 to 14000 feet altitudes, those long range systems also just fly autonomously to overcome latency and even total signal loss. That drone could have been flying a preset course for part of the time.
