The guy gets unreal sound from such pared-down kits As for Effervescent--would love to have it on vinyl Robbie--that track is the swampiest psychedelic shit I know of!
Me too man me too. So fucking expensive.. Same with "Our Mother Electricity" hope we get some represses in the near future. They fucking deserve it no doubt. One of the greatest bands that still slips under everyones radar.
Robby is killer!! His drumming is always solid. So stripped down and pure with very little flash or flair. His artwork is fucking fantastic too! All Them Witches. UVWAYS. It's all great stuff!!!!!
Fucking love this guy, so laid back and real. Additionally, I totally relate to the less-is-more idea with regards to drum kit and recording gear. Awesome!
So crazy, saw atw back in February and this kit is COMPLETELY different from that show. Makes me feel good about my own back and forth lol. Robby is such a great drummer 🤘
I also have 28" bass drum and this is the most wild and fat sounding drum i ever played! P.S Watching this right after RS and comparing to Rival Sons drummer, this guy sounds more groovy and collected than Michael, no disrespect to him, just an observation.
I wanted to get it from the horse's mouth because I didn't know why, but his sound is unreal. I'm just drawn to it and it was driving me crazy because I don't know why.
@@drumrundown that would be really nice of you. I‘ve been wondering about it since the Blacksnake Blues video dropped. Might be a studer or something. Great interview and channel btw!
I get that I’m in the minority here, but guys…seriously? His timekeeping is suspect (watch it again and take note of how he stops playing once his meter starts falling off), has little to no experience with tuning, doesn’t know the specifics of his shells, has zero chops (not that that’s all that important here), and offers practically no useful advice for players. He even admits many of his choices with gear came down to practical reasons, like how much space he had to transport them, or just taking whatever backline was provided to him. Some gear he picked because of how cool it looked over its functionality. Calling it ‘minimalist’ is a misnomer, as it’s less about intentionally subtracting so much as it’s his inability to use anything additional. Listen, I’m not saying everyone has to have crazy chops or a buttload of gear, but for a channel called ‘drum rundown’ I’d certainly expect the drummer to..I dunno give us useful information when running down his drums? Again, I understand looking at the comments that his band, approach, and (bafflingly) his gear appeal to some, but some of us come here to see how professionals do it. Hoping to see more of that content in the future.
Hey Sekou, thanks for tuning in and watching. I was really excited to launch this episode, mostly because it was the first one we filmed, and it helped bring into focus what the ethos of a drum Rundown could be. I was even more excited after we launched our first episode with Matt of Animals As Leaders, when so many new fans started requesting a rundown with Robby, specifically. If you haven't checked out the first episode, it is an absolute master class in specificity of kit set up, wood construction, function and form, given by quite arguably the best technical drummer alive, so plenty of chops and absolutely perfect meter. And that is why I love this episode as a follow up: It sets the tone of the Rundown, and shows range while highlighting the dichotomy of approaches to drum set ups, recording methods, and the vast variety of types of drummers. Some are form, some are function, some kits are based on science, some are based on feel. Hopefully we can showcase the insane diversity of what professional drummers play at some of the biggest gigs in the world. I for one am glad that not every drummer plays some stock big name brand kit with some stock Bonham chops, I feel like this series would get very boring, very fast. Happy to have given ATW fans a look behind the kit, and answers to some burning questions they've had for some time. Hang with us, we are gonna get even weirder. Next up we have some absolute technicians, and some self taught cats, some picking kits solely based on stage look, and others with more gear and set ups on stage than most full bands have. If they have the gigs, we'll show the rigs. Robby has some of the coolest of both. Thanks again for watchin', and we'll see ya on the next one...
@@brettvandenbosch8772 Yeah, I listened. But as you've addressed literally none of the valid, easily proven criticisms I brought up regarding the above video, I'm guessing you're more of a fan than you are a critical thinker.
@@jarradjames1951 Well said, my man. As I'd said in my original comment, I'm in no way implying the only drummers worth covering are incendiary technicians with crazy gear. I'm a fan of minimalist playing from musical drummers, as much as I am of the other kind. Robbie's playing, vague knowledge and description of his gear didn't strike me as all that professional, but I'll concede that at the end of the day that's just my opinion. Not a matter of right vs wrong. You're a great interviewer and looking forward to more from this channel.
@@FortyDeuce thanks for the compliment, figuring a lot of this out as I go! Thanks for the comments, and the cool dialogue. I promise do drum fans proud and keep getting behind the coolest kits I can, and getting all the info I can! Chat soon, dude!

This whole band has some of the coolest approaches to gear that I’ve seen in a long time. Great band, great music, great gear.

I listen when Robbie talks because I've heard them drums in the flesh 🤯
Love the drum sound of all them witches Robby is great
Always love Robby's snare sound on the albums.
Great drummer from a great band!! I’d recommend the drummer from Russian Circles for a future episode.
We'll add it to the list!
Absolutely! Dave Turncrantz is such a beast🤘🏼
Couldn't agree more
Awesome video !
Robby is a huge inspiration for me so cool to see his kit up close!!!
And don't forget to check out Ben & Parks gear in our #rigrundown: ruclips.net/video/NmvI4j-DixE/видео.html

Love the idea of a bandana over the head. I'll have to remember that.

Remembering watching Live on the Internet and being blown away by how minimal his kit is, the man does so much with so little
this rocks! thank you drum rundown
thanks for watching!
Good Stuff, merci. My Favorite Rock Psychedelic Blues Band.
After watching this i'm gonna buy a bliss ride cymbal for sure !!!
First of all ATW is the goat, and second, I am incredibly hyped that drum rundown is a thing now! Thanks for this 🤘
Thanks for watching! I'm so psyched it is a thing as well, finally some rundown love for the drummers!!! ⚡️🥁⚡️
Dreams are crazy good I’ve been hip to them for years, I got mine in Columbus for the same reason!!
That was awesome guys! Robby always gets choice drum tones 🤘
Thanks, brother! ⚡️🥁⚡️

ATW is amazing and so glad to see this rundown/interview. Robby has a style and sound all his own that is just insanely good and fascinating to see.
I've been waiting for so long for a drum rundown of his kit
Happy to oblige! Thanks for following! ⚡️🦾⚡️
Always looking forward to the next new All Them Witches track, favorite modern day drummer easily!
Robby is one of the greatest drummers on Earth.

@@drumrundown Hey Evans \m/ Care to help out a poor drummer 😀
Hooray!!!
I love Robbie’s sound
One of the best in the game.
Thank You - the Rig Rundown has no percussion (booo!) and this is what I needed :)
Wish he could go back to ATW just seen them in Kentucky without him it’s not the same
That bliss ride sounds amazing!
My brother, nice stuff. #bringthealiens
Much love for Robbie. Saw ATW at Fillmore sf
Great work! Robby rules!
Thanks for watchin'!
Interesting idea to not record with the ride cymbal. So minimal. One of my favorite sounding bands

SAME. It's such a vibe.
What size are the hi-hats?
Those are 14s I believe!
Robby is the shit!!!
Okkkkkkk.... time for another
idol
Such a monster!
Did he mention what size the hi hats were? I watched a few times but either i missed it or he didn't mention it.
I wanna say 15"s if my memory serves correct!
What head is on that 24 kick drum?
I think I missed what kind of snare he had. Any idea what it is?
Pearl Free Floater Aluminum 14x8
Nice video, thank you! How many inches the hihat?
14"
@Drum Rundown Thank you so much friend
Would love to know the artist for that drum head!
It wasn’t me if that narrows it down any
Does anyone know what mixing console he‘s using? The one behind him under the computer
Hey Fabio, I can ask Robby if he knows!
@@drumrundown that would be really nice of you. I‘ve been wondering about it since the Blacksnake Blues video dropped. Might be a studer or something. Great interview and channel btw!
Is it just me or does he look like he's towering over his kick
I'd much rather a 4 piece than whatever the f--k Aquiles Preister has.....But I'd at least want a ride and two crashes.
I enjoyed this.but he is the most basic drummer you can get.
