Literally nothing to sue. They have more to lose trying to get a case. There are no monetary damages so they risk creating unknown precedent for nothing.
Chris Miller recently said that ai would never be used in the Spiderverse movies because "One of the main goals of the films is to create new visual styles that have never been seen in a studio CG film, not steal the generic plagiarized average of other artists' work." That's the biggest problem with ai currently. It has the ability to be a great tool for artists, but it was built to steal the works of both big and small artists so that ANYONE can use their work without permission and for any purpose. In order for AI to ever be part of the art industry, whether that be in animation or any other field, is if protections are put in place for artists first. Once ai scrappers are unable to steal so recklessly from any available creations on the internet, then it can be repurposed into an art tool rather than a generator working off of stolen assets.
Chris Miller, the guy implicated in an expose of poor working conditions resulting in inhumane treatment of the actual animators doing the Spider-Verse movies, resulting in the Beyond movie being delayed indefinitely? They already used AI to help animate ITSV and ATSV, they just called it "machine learning" to deceive people.
@@ultimamage3 Well that's incredibly disheartening to hear, but I'd rather the movie be delayed than the animators be forced to work to the extent that it impacts their health. I googled about the ai use in the previous Spiderverse films, and while an ai was used, it was in the use of a program that allowed the animators to adjust line density and other elements rather than generating the entire animation for them. It was a tool that they could control, rather than creating the visuals for them using art from other artists.
I think that's wishful thinking, don't be too naive. While I'm pro-AI tools, I do see there is an issue with data privacy and these models taking it without the creators permissions. You're concept would work out in a perfect world, but even if some people with good intentions implemented a system like that for training AI models the models wouldn't work. They need vast amounts of data to get to a particular level of competency, or otherwise the models would be practically useless. Unfortunately, the only way these models get there is by learning on everything and anything it can to get to that place. It's only when these models can generate synthetic data of its own that can create its own unique art creations is when it can truely go without training on unauthorized works, but like I said this wouldn't be possible with out an initial data set to work with. I know there is contention in the artistic communities about how this tech is being used to "steal" and "plagiarize". The fact is this is a reductive and reactionary take on what actually happens behind the scenes of an AI model. Eventually, when these models do start achieving the protections and applications you seek to work for and assists artists, we'll be long pass those criticisms, and everyone would have forgotten all about "The problems with AI art" anyway.
@@14supersonic You think that everyone will forget that the art generator that companies are hoping to replace their workers with was built by having it copy and manipulate the works of all artists on a worldwide scale against their will and without their consent? So what's the story about?
Looks as good as half the animation on fox and adult swim
I think it wasnt that bad. AI is pretty new to the public, so it's not going to look like Avengers: End Game. The fact AI did this is surprising to me.
The only thing that comes to mind with this AI stuff:THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!
I know right
Took yer dur!
They need to make their next special on AI
The big wigs don’t understand that AI should be a tool to help the animation process, not something to replace them
hhhhhhhmmmmm . . . The main issue appears to be the storyline more than the animation. I think the major issue is people trying to do 100% AI. Take this and tweak it. I suspect What will happen is doing AI scene by Scene. Still need people to make the cuts and design the system. Once you can get repeatable characters it will work out.
