  • Wow, pulling the starter cable through the Porsche 911 is very tough. You don't want to replace this cable unless its an absolute must!
    The shift rod linkage was a breeze now that the engine and transmission are out! I love easy!

    Tom. Get some 1/2" or 9/16" carriage bolts to drop in the holes where you secure the lift. Makes an easy cover It will keep dirt and junk from getting in the holes.

      Good idea, I have some grub screws but I keep forgetting to put them in.

    I had to read the title several times. My brain kept going to a lawn mower type pull starter.

      I see what you mean now that I read it again. A pull start Porsche would be unique!
      I have a 912 industrial engine that does have a hand crank start feature in addition to the normal starter!

    We use to use this stuff called monkey snot...lol believe its made by 3m. Stuff I used to pull long runs was color yellow. Also an old timers used a special knot on the fish line and then taping the knot on the wires so doesn't catch on turns. But any slip knot can work... have to be getting excited that this is almost a drivable chassis!!

      Yes getting excited to drive this thing. Thanks for the monkey snot tip. I'm sure it would have helped

    Amazing video Tom ! You show that you sometimes just need patience and ingenuity when things don't exactly go as planned.

      For sure, I underestimated the difficulty of that cable install. Then I went to read more about it and it sounds like everyone says it's a difficult job.

    Awesome work Tom. That shifter looks great. I might have to find one of those myself. Thanks

    Tom, nice work on this one! The "That was easy" comment had me cracking up. You really seemed happy and surprised...ha ha ha! I thought of the Staples Button 😁

    The shifter is a big milestone. Who cant remember sitting in the family car as a kid pretending to drive.

    Hi Tom; greetings from Australia! Great videos thank you! Have you seen Home Built By Jeff? He’s an Australian guy who has just finished his similar build on RUclips; he had a similar issue with the Speedo cable coming out.... regards George

    Did you consider fitting a short shifter? I'm undecided... I went with brass bushes for the coupler too. Hoping this will improve the shift quality somewhat.

    • @GarageTimeAutoResto
      @GarageTimeAutoResto  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I'm open to alternate shifter systems whether factory or not. I think I'll drive ve it stock first and then decide.
