My theory is that the Exe in this series is basically Meguna. You have to hit him directly in the soul to be able to deal damage, something that probably only a Chaos Emerald can do, That's why Sonic didn't feel Metal Sonic's blows, because they were hitting directly on the exe's soul, but he felt Knuckles' blows, because they were hitting him, not the exe's soul
Okay, so the reason why Sonic.EXE can regenerate in general is because he's a demonic entity and not something "physical". Sonic.EXE in multiple animations and iterations can regenerate, it's just a part of his character.
As for why Sonic.EXE can regenerate here, well it's because he's a parallel to Sukuna, and minor spoilers, but Sukuna can regenerate, and even survive without a heart, as shown when Sukuna is first revived through Yuji eating his finger.
X isn't a "demonic entity" none of the official ones are, they're mainly comprised of the void, with an exception of like, 2017 X / 'Sonic' who's been stated to be unknown.
Tails is infact caught in a "domain" (its a illusion), In tails's point of view, EXE simply took the blast, instead of his head exploding. In everyone elses pov: EXE looks just like sonic, Only we see the black eyes & red pupils. Theres proof of this, theres split seconds in the animation where EXE's eyes return to "normal".
7:43 my theory ist that Sonic.EXE is just the embodiment of negative Chaos energy being, and since Sonic is the one we see the most just transforming and using the Chaos emeralds, the dark and chaotic energy just took over Sonic's body, making him able to recover the damage he withstand, also would make sense why he started laughing and just was pretty surprised when he got hit by the "positive" Chaos Emerald black flash from Metal Sonic, since it's like a counter to him in general, and maybe, you need to erase the hole body to get rid of all the negative chaos energy and just stop his regen bs also the reason why Knuckles didn't do as much damage as he would have to Sonic.EXE was because he didn't knew it wasen't the real Sonic, like, Tails and Eggman knew, so they just didn't hold back, while knuckles still had on the back of his mind that he may need to kill Sonic
That’s a legit reason why knuckles would hold back. It wouldn’t make sense for him to struggle with Sonic exe if his skills compared to Sonic is “amateur”. Cuz knuckles can fight sonic head to head.
Reminder the blaster Tails used was one he made himself, using straight up plasma, on a unrelated note Emerl if he was still alive would cook Exe's ass and steal his entire moveset in the process

now rewatching the vid you can see that it's tails dead body right there and he's probably on the same acid trip sonics on kinda of question is what happened to sonic......or it's lowkey like undertale when everybody dies the timeline resets but i guess sonic.exe left the body there on pupose now only that its just like "spirits of hell"3:01
