I didn't expect Manaka to be such a great character. She liked to be the main singer, but the band's success and Retsuko's happiness were more important to her.

@@Mr_Maxiz There's still a bunch of unanswered questions, not to mention haida and retsuko haven't officially gotten together yet, so i wouldn't be surprised if netflix renewed it for a 4th season.

@@gordyrroy exactly, like...how is retsuko going to adjust to going back to work after her stalker tried to kill her? what's gonna happen to the OTMGirls? tadano and gori's app? will retsuko give haida a chance or will there be a big message about how she doesn't owe him a relationship? will retsuko get a new relationship either way? will the unhinged fan stay locked up for a long time, or will he get out and start terrorizing OTMGirls again? there's so many questions

If someone had told me years ago I'd be watching a show about a wage slave red panda who unwinds by singing death metal and then gets roped into managing/performing in an idol group, I'd have said "Well, I'd think any anime company could pull it off but definitely not Sanrio".
And I'd have been so wrong.

The whole OTM experience is great, and the band is so kind. I love their three super loyal fans get jobs once they're big enough to need more employees. And the three aren't treated badly.
There was one other guy who is an even bigger fan, but he's in prison right now for attempted murder.

I think Manaka is an interesting foil to Restsuko. There's also two sides two her, the hyper-cute side she put on for her fans, and the deadpan snarker side she has day-to-day. You see this in her eyes. Restsuko is her true self when she is singing, Manaka is her true self when she isn't singing. Both put on a friendly face in order to move up in the world, whether it is to make money at a cubical or become a famous pop star. I am glad they became friends because like a lot of people I was worried they wouldn't get along, but Manaka turned out to be really supportive of Retsuko, in her own Manaka-y way.

But for reals tho, all this show teaches me is to never reach for my dreams cause there'll always be crushed by some harsh shit called reality.

I think the message is more like you have to work hard to achieve your dream. It's not as simple as to school, graduate, land a job.

No matter how hard she tries, no matter how much energy and time she puts into something she always ends up dropping it or losing it. She's a wonderful woman, who tries hard, and tries her very best to be liked/loved no matter the amount of obstacles, no matter the pain, no matter the harassment. She finally found something she really enjoys (OTMGirls) then ends up leaving because of a dirty bastard who didn't like the fact she was chasing a dream she never knew existed and making people happy with her amazing talent and end up back to her old job where she's unappreciated, abused, pushed around etc etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love the show and the storyline and the fact she has that cute hyena (forgot his name) to watch her back is awesome and everything but you know, bleh.
@@dessu6644 The problem with Retsuko, though, is that she gets in her own way. Throughout these three seasons, whenever her friends offer support or solutions, instead of accepting it, she turns help away and tries to solve it on her own or convince herself the situation is/will be fine.
Like, in this lost recent season, get problems could have been solved much sooner if she had asked her 2 friends to borrow money. But instead of swallowing her flimsy pride, she convinces herself that out wouldn't work out and digs herself deeper into a hole.
Not trying to be hostile btw, I just really enjoy talking anime.

It's really unfair isn't it? While yeah you do need skill but at the end you need a MOUNTAIN amount of luck to reach your dreams. It's quite depressing to 'pursue' anything.
I think retsuko ultimately decided being an idol isn't for her and decided to settle with office life tho
Am I the only one who suddenly got SB69 vibes, it was nice to see haha -- but in hindsight, Aggretsuko is /also/ a Sanrio character, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a resemblance-of-sorts lel
