As a Protestant, I really love this friendly and engaging discussion - rather videos of a Protestant bashing Catholicism or vice versa (which has gotten more & more common in recent years)
Well, If you think about it, Protestantism was formulated on bashing Catholicism. Discord and disagreement are going to happen as a result. Come to a Catholic content channel sometime and pop into the comment section, you'll see very quickly who's bashing whom.
Christians should always start and end in prayer. It’s a gift when men of opposing views can respectfully share their beliefs. We are all better for it.
(376 A.D.) St. Jerome: “State of Roman the chair of Peter... the rock on which the church is built! Matthew 16:18 This is the Ark of Noah, and he who is not found in it shall perish.” (Letter 15:2) (451 A.D.) Council of Chalcedon: “Elder Rome foundation of the Catholic Church and orthodox faith.” (Session 3)
+10 points awarded to the Baptist Pastor for NOT using the word “personal” when describing who Jesus is. I myself am a Baptist who converted to Catholic after 40 years, so what the Pastor was saying was very familiar to me. In all things, it just appeared that his views came off as somewhat sufficient, but lacking, if that makes any sense. This is why we call the Catholic Church, the fullness of faith. You very well may accept Christ as a Baptist, then move forward into baptism and continue to serve the Lord throughout your years on earth as a Baptist. But look at everything you would be missing out on - the communion of the Saints, the Eucharist, and a richer, more rewarding prayer life than you can ever imagine.
I totally understand as a Baptist longing for a fuller Christian experience; sometimes I find it a bit too stripped down. I find myself drawn to the Anglican Church (continuing Anglican; not the liberal Episcopal Church). I find myself drawn to the beauty of the liturgy, the observance of the Christian calendar, etc. But, I also find beauty in a conservative Baptist church. I find myself comfortable with both.
I am like you brother! I was Baptist and affiliated with other Evangelical groups for 40+ years, and then recently became Catholic also. I was a preacher, teacher, missionary and exorcist during the whole time I was a Protestant/Evangelical. I was raised Jewish, and became Baptist when I was 17 years old.
For some reason I feel like you guys are lying, it makes 0 sense for a well grounded Christian to want to convert to catholicism where the dogmas and traditions are place as equal value as the WORD OF THE LIVING GOD.
There’s a Venezuelan Catholic Priest that is converting hundreds of people in Latin America, his name is (Padre) Luís Toro, he is converting all kinds of Protestant brothers and sisters, he’s converting Atheists, he’s bringing back Catholics who left, it’s amazing what is happening, the way he does it it’s purely with the Bible, he doesn’t even have to look at the Bible he just calls out where in the Bible it says certain thing and he gives the explanation to every argument that whoever is having a debate, conversation or simply just asking questions, he says it’s the word of God instructing the apostles to do what he wants them to do with the Church, it’s like if the Bible was also predicting the future, it’s amazing the way the Bible explains itself. It would be wonderful if he could debate one of our Protestant brothers here in the USA, the thing is he doesn’t speak a word of English, he would need a translator, preferably a Catholic Priest could translate for him. He also debates not with our Catholic Bible, but with the ( Reina Balera ) which is the Protestant Bible, so no one can say he’s having an advantage somehow. He’s converting entire towns and villages all over Latin America, again his name is Luis Toro, he has dozens and dozens of video debating Babtists, Jehová witnesses, Pentecostals, Mormons, Adventists, I haven’t seen him debate any Jewish Rabbis or Muslims yet but he would definitely refute them I’m sure

What I don’t understand at all is that why do people say that there is a difference between the word Catholic and Christian,I don’t understand that at all because in all infinite and eternal truth a Catholic is a Christian in total unity with the church and all it’s members in it throughout the whole world that’s what the word Catholic means. I just hope that God may help people to understand that,Amen 🙏
Yes. Catholics are Christians in unity with the church that Jesus founded and subject to its authority. Baptists are one type of Christian who reject the church that Jesus founded and its authority. They believe in a Bible but not the authority that made its table of contents. They believe the Bible is enough even though the Bible never makes that claim and in fact denies it. Thus they are left with nothing but private interpretation and that is why Protestants have splintered into hundreds of groups. Rebellion begets rebellion.
Once upon a time a pagan religion started & hijacked the word catholic to Roman catholic. Now itvis considered a bad word we don't want to identify with.
31¶Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied ἐκκλησία, ἐκκλεσιας, ἡ (from ἔκκλητος called out or forth, and this from ἐκκαλέω); properly, a gathering of citizens called out from their homes into some public place; an assembly How & where you pulled that out of I wonder. It was actually one that you call "church fathers" that first use that term, think Ignatius or some dude in the 2nd century.
Catholics ARE Christians. Great conversation. The correct title should be Catholics and Non-Catholics. One God, One Love! One other thought….As a convert to Catholic/Christian, I have found Non-Catholics tell others how BAD Catholics are BUT I’ve never heard Catholics talking about Non-Catholics. This showed me the Love Catholics have for humanity. Wish this was more universal!.
I’ve honestly been persecuted by Catholics for being Protestant. I’ve seen it way too often unfortunately. But I do love my Catholic brothers and sisters despite my issues with the church and its many issues. I am so thankful these two can have cordial discourse. Christ is king and God bless my friend ✌🏻✝️
This is so objective and inaccurate. As I could say many Catholics don't actually know the scriptures but that's so relative & broad. Just like you can't say how us "non catholic" (which as ^ he said above I too prefer Protestant, because that's what we are) talk negatively to Catholics, because that just isn't right. Protestants are humanitarians as well because we all believe in Jesus and all share that love (hopefully). & isn't it ironic that your own "leaders" in your beliefs don't use the word Christian's & Catholicism in the same sentence, just something to think about. I will be praying for you tonight that God allows wisdom and understanding in your heart and that He may take away the deception .
Disciples are JEWISH, followers of “The Way” (Acts 24:14), then called Christians (Acts 11:26), next, “CATHOLIC. The first use of the word is by Ignatius... The Catechism of the Catholic Church connects Ignatius’ words to Jesus’ words in Matthew 28:19, “make disciples of all nations… “The church is Catholic,” because it is “sent out to all people (868).” (U.S. Catholic, Vol. 81, No. 8, p. 49) (August 2016)
@@jimdee9801 well I don’t think they (RCC) will change their doctrines, but they are orthodox, so we can work together….not on everything, but on a lot !
Thank you for this. I started reading the Bible 4 years ago and have been frustrated with conflicting messages and interpretations and feeling like I don’t really belong in any church I’ve sat in. I enjoyed the teachings but the fellowship and guidance has been lacking to say the least. The vitriol towards Catholics has been taught to me since childhood, but I’ve come to a point in my journey that I need to leave no stone left unturned and research on my own. We must come together and figure this out, there are so many of us out here that are on an island alone asking Jesus to help us find our place.

I love this, such a good idea. Need some help from our Baptist Brothers. Doing prison ministry and I had someone not really joining in, but you could almost see tears in his eyes as we all talked. When asked to share he proceeded to tell me that he was Southern Baptist, a rough past, his mother told him that God would only forgive you so many times before you automatically went to hell. My heart ached when he shared this, it really stopped me in my tracks. Being Catholic, I shared to him that God will always forgive you if you ask, if you ask and honestly repent for your sins. You can’t ask and not mean it, God knows your heart. I would love to get some feedback from someone who is Baptist. God Bless
@@davidluciemable3778 Please tell me that is not a teaching that God will forgive someone so many times before they are destined for hell? Hoping that was something his mother said as a scare tactic. Thanks!

Tradition helps us to interpret the scriptures. When we disagree over baptism, over the Eucharist/Communion, it's helpful to know how the early church fathers described the practices and beliefs of the early church. And then we get to decide, what should we follow, beliefs and practices that date back to 100-200 AD, or beliefs and practices that sprang up after 1517 AD (or sometimes even as recently as the early 20th century). We Catholics would choose the older. more traditional teachings. And Protestants - often don't realize there were older, more traditional teachings. Surprise, surprise. As far as works go, it sounds like both sides believe that after we are saved we will do good works. But the Catholic Church does guide us (often requires us) to do certain things such as being baptized, attending Mass regularly, confessing our sins periodically, and taking communion often. Perhaps that's part of what Protestants object to, this formal requirement to participate in some works. Images represent historical figures and historical events. An image, whether of the Christ on the crucifix, or images of Mary and the Saints, are reminders of people and events and are great prompts for prayer. The crucifix reminds us of Christ's death on the cross and the sacrifices he made for our salvation all through his ministry. Mary and the Saints remind us of how individuals responded to and interacted with Christ and the Church, and how that should inspire us in how we respond to Christ. And of course Catholics do ask Mary and the Saints to pray for us/intercede for us, but that's actually not a prayer to the image, it's a request for prayers from someone in heaven in God's presence. The images give us a visualization of the one we're asking to intercede for us, but it's not the actual image we're praying to. Jesus tells us in John 3:5 that we cannot enter into the kingdom of God unless we're born again of water and spirit (and water and spirit is EXACTLY how Jesus was baptized by John, with water - the Jordan river - and spirit in the form of a dove). Jesus doesn't describe baptism as an option but as a necessity, and we see all throughout the Book of Acts that as soon as converts were saved the Apostles baptized them. There was no delay, no "well, we'll do that later". And because for most of history huge numbers of children didn't live until the age of two, well before the age of reason/of personal consent, the Church and Christian parents wanted their children baptized as soon as possible. What parent in their right mind would chance their child being ineligible to enter the kingdom of God? It's only because so many Protestants have convinced themselves that Jesus didn't really mean what he said that they are willing to wait for their children decide as adults that whether they'd like to go to heaven or not. As far as Lydia who the Baptist minister she and her entire household were baptized upon HER conversion, and later on in the same chapter the jailer and his entire household were also baptized together (Acts 16). Catholics would say that a household on that time would include parents, children of all ages, and perhaps any servants of the parents. The Bible never sets an age limit on baptism.
No tradition helps you to change the scriptures. Requiring sacraments and mass for salvation is a powerplay to keep people in fear and coming to the church to support it financially.
@@BDtruth2015 Tradition helps us to interpret the scriptures. Catholics have one universal belief about Communion, that it is the Real Presence of the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the bread and wine, and that it is presented at every Mass. That is a belief that can be dated from the 1st century until now, and is documented in the Didache and the early church fathers. Protestants claim to believe in sola scriptura and that the Holy Spirit guides them in the interpretation of those scriptures, yet there are a wide range of interpretations of what Jesus meant at the Last Supper when he said "this is my body, this is my blood." Lutherans believe in Consubstantiation, which is quite close to what Catholics believe, while other Protestants believe it is a symbol or a memorial service, and others believe that drinking actual wine rather than grape juice is sinful. Without tradition, apparently the Holy Spirit isn't powerful enough in your lives to grant you one uniform understanding of what Jesus words meant. That's a very obvious example, but the same thing occurs with baptism, that you disagree on the meaning, importance, and necessity of baptism, and homosexuality, adultery, and other issues. The Holy Spirit fails to guide you, while tradition has kept our most important Catholic beliefs basically unchanged for 1900+ years.
You are Dammed if you receive the Eucharist “Unworthily.” (I Corinthians 11:27-29) How can that be if its symbolic? (405 A.D.) Theodore: “[Christ] did NOT say, ‘This is the SYMBOL of but, this is my body.’ my blood,’ the EUCHARIST.” (Catechetical Homilies 5:1) (33 A.D.) “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have NO life in you.” (John 6:53) (Mt. 26:26-29) (Luke 22:19-20) (70 A.D.) The Didache: Sunday, “Offer the Eucharist… in every place & time… a pure sacrifice.” (14:1-3) (CCC 1322-1419) (430 B.C.) “Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering.” (Malachi 1:11) (189 A.D.) St. Irenaeus: “Eucharist of the blood and the body of Christ is made.” (Against Heresies, Book 5, Chapter 2, Verse 3) (110 A.D.) St. Ignatius (Letter to the Smyrnaeans 6:2, 7:1) (155 A.D.) Justin Martyr (First Apology 66): “Eucharist is the flesh and blood of that Jesus.”
I’m happy dialogue is taking place but there’s just so much the Protestant pasture states as fact that just isn’t so and in the name of dialogue it just goes unchecked.
It was nice and charitable but I also find that not only does the Baptist pastor speaks like this, but also most Protestants and sadly in return, when we say our part, they feel comfortable to call us out and tell us the “correct interpretation” as if it is fact and also not noticing they come from a tradition also. Only thing is… theirs started in the 1500 and ours nearly 200 years ago.
This video is doing exactly that. 😊 This video appeals to Catholic and Protestant viewers. There's a natural curiosity to see who "wins" or if things will get heated up. It's a fantastic way to help Catholics and Protestants understand the viewpoints and beliefs of the other. At this point- 200 people have watched. Someone out there knows the Catholic faith more clearly. We won't convert the world with force or by overwhelming them with apologetics or zeal. What is a bold strategy? Playing on curiosity, pleasantly surprising people with charitable discussion, building a bridge in the community, and repairing Protestant misconceptions of the Catholic faith that have been passed down for generations. Trust must come first if we wish to bring our brethren home.
We could talk about the idea that Mary is the co-redemptrix, which of course is really a blasphemous concept. We could talk about the idea that God is a tough guy and if anybody wants grace out of God, it’s only Jesus who could get it from Him. But you can’t expect to go to Jesus, because He’s pretty tough himself, so you need to go to Mary because nobody can resist his mother. So she’ll talk to Him, and He’ll talk to the Father, and Mary will get you what you need, or some saint. We could talk about a lot of those things, concepts of Purgatory, concepts of the sinlessness of Mary. A lot of things about Catholic theology that we could speak about, most notably their erroneous doctrine of justification which cuts people off from the kingdom of God.
Niki just read the Bible and you will leave the Catholic Church. I belonged to St Dominic's until into my late 40's. Never learned anything about the Catholic Church while being a member, I served as an alter boy until 15 years old, and attended catechism as a child. I never learned the Gospel or any Biblical truths, until I read the Bible at age 47. After reading the Bible I realized, that the Catholic Church had led me away from Biblical truths. After reading the Bible I began to research a learn all I could about the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church has such a horrible history, and are more interested in their traditions than the salvation of their Church. If you read the Bible you will leave the Catholic Church. Here is an example of what the Church teaches and believes, This comes from the Council of Trent Decree Concerning Justification Canon 9. If anyone says that the sinner is justified by faith alone, meaning that nothing else is required to cooperate in order to obtain the grace of justification, and that it is not in any way necessary that he be prepared and disposed by the action of his own will, let him be anathema. He is what the Word of God says. Ephesians 2:89 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. So do you follow The Word of God, or the writings of the Catholic Church?
Love this friendly dialogue. The pastor’s explanation of Justification is identical to Catholic - namely we are INFUSED with righteousness which transforms us and leads to good works. The traditional Protestant view is NOT this, but that a sinner is NOT transformed but instead IMPUTED (covered) with the righteousness of Christ, which minimizes true transformation and lets a sinner keep sinning as long as he continues to have faith (but perhaps not working through love). Catholics take Paul seriously with what he said In Galatians 5:6 that saving faith is “faith working through love”, that we have put on Christ, and been transformed by His Grace. It’s much more personal than an alien imputed righteousness.
Which Protestant leader articulated that view? If one is infused with righteousness, can he still sin? If so, what is the difference between infused and imputed, since both can still sin?
@@ajhall8214 Colossians 2:11-12, 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ; 12 and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.
Catholics call their priests “father,” and the Pope is the “holy father.” Abbots take their title from the Aramaic word abba, which means “father.” This is clearly unbiblical. The priest as “father” is problematic. In the case of “holy father,” there is no doubt this title is unbiblical. No man can take on the title of “holy” anything, because only God is holy and man is a sinner. This title gives the Pope a status that is never intended for any man on earth, nor is it sanctioned in the Bible. Even the apostle Paul made no claim to holiness, referring to himself as the chief of sinners. Referring to a priest as "father" is denying God as our true Father, we can only have one true Father, not two one in Heaven and one on earth. Catholic's are the only ones who uses the word "father" God may see this as blasphemous.
@@HallowithAlex The word 'holy' has 2 levels of meaning. At one level, it refers to God's utter holiness. At another level "holy" means to be set apart. For example, Moses was asked to remove his sandals because he was standing on 'holy' ground. Clearly the ground is not divine like God. It just means that particular ground was no ordinary ground for God set it apart, choosing that spot over other possible spots to appear to Moses. In the same way, the pope is holy because he is no ordinary person; God set him apart from other men. To lead His Church.
@@eric.loves.to.fish1 That's not what I was referring to. I was referring to the you calling dude 'enlightened'. Listen...per my comment below...CONTEND for the faith. FIGHT the GOOD FIGHT. When it comes to my faith and The Word, which are inseparable, I'm not going to sit down with someone who I, or the bible, can't even agree with on what salvation is and try to compromise. Until you are born again you can't enter, or much less even see, The Kingdom of God. Lord bless and I pray you continue to seek after Truth. Acts 2:38.
Doug, so you trust that it is by WORKS and NOT BY FAITH ALONE that we are JUSTIFIED as Holy Scripture teaches, for even if one has ALL FAITH, but does not LOVE, IT IS USELESS! Peace always in Jesus Christ our Great and Kind God and Savior, He whose Flesh is true food and Blood true drink!
No, you cannot. Jesus said He would lose none of all the Father gives Him. So either you're saying God cannot choose wisely in whom He gives the Son or Jesus is lying when you say salvation can be lost
If you can lose your salvation then it's obvious you never had it. Simple as that. Peter and Paul speak about how those who holave abandoned the faith is because they were never of the faith. So no Once Saved Always Saved is true.
James says we are not saved by faith alone. Talk about direct. It flat out contradicts Luther’s false interpretation of his one verse taken out of context in Romans. The Catholic Church is not a denomination. It’s the church. Only Protestants have denominations because they are fractures after fractures after fractures because they can’t agree on anything.
What about the thief on the cross that Jesus said would be in Paradis with him. No works but he made it to heaven? If you do a study of James you will see that he was saying that if you have faith in Christ your works should reflect that but if you say you have faith but the way you live your life hasn't changed prior to being saved, then your faith is dead.
@@kirtbeach2635 it’s ironic that Martin Luther understood James well. Which is why he wanted to remove it from the New Testament. Later Protestants spin their heads in intellectual gymnastics to come up with ways to have it not say what it says. Ironically, Paul tells us that his entire purpose and the purpose of the apostles and the prophets is to bring about the obedience of faith. He does that in Roman’s. He says that’s his purpose. Then he explains it throughout the book and then at the ends he reminds us that that is the purpose. Luther took one verse out of context. Abraham’s faith, in context, was his trusting obedience. Can you imagine if he’d gone back to Sara and said, “God spoke to me again. Oh. What did he say? He said to sacrifice Isaac. He did? Are you sure it was him? Definitely. God said it. So are you going to do it? No way. That’s just crazy.” Abraham exemplified the obedience of faith that Paul said was his own purpose. James tells us that faith without works is dead. Even the devils have faith. But they refuse to obey. We get both, the ability to have faith and the ability to obey and thus perform works, by grace alone. We must cooperate with that grace though. The thief on the cross repented. He also defended Jesus to the other thief. It really isn’t that complicated. It’s not some great gotcha contradiction. Btw. How about the goats and the sheep? What did Jesus say saved the sheep?
God judges each according to his circumstances. Somebody who converts on his death bed or just before being put to death or being murdered, their conversion is their work. For those of us who live longer, it takes more. James 2 says that faith that doesn't produce works is dead. If that's true, please provide a scenario where someone has faith, doesn't do any works, and goes to heaven. (Exclude the handicapped, and immediate deaths as explained above.) If you say that their is any sort of works that someone needs to do, then they aren't being saved by faith alone, and you've talked your way inro Catholic salvation. @@kirtbeach2635

Video just started and thought I'd leave after this comment. CONTEND for the faith.
I appreciate this discussion in love. To my Catholic brothers and sisters who can't understand why they are not commonly referred to Christians, I'll give you a different view. Every time I have ever heard a Catholic person talking about faith, the Catholic Church is the focus of their life. Every Catholic parishioner I have ever heard speak declared the Catholic Church the only true Church or way to God. That is not Biblical or of God. I attend and often preach at a Baptist Church. Much to the shock of people, I also support the Catholic brethren. It does not matter what the name on the congregation you attend is. The only thing that matters is the name on your heart, and the One you surrender your life to.

Good video. I was impressed with the respect on each side. Liked Dr. Taylor a lot. I'd like to see more of him. While differences were brought out, they were surface level and not obviously meant to be a full blown debate. However a lot was left out. Sure catholics will say they are saved by grace or faith but looking at the catechism also shows that you merit your own eternal life; ccc 2010. Thats just one quick illustration.
Thanks for leaving a comment. “As the Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5-8), but I’m also being saved (1 Cor. 1:18, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9-10, 1 Cor. 3:12-15). Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11-13).”
@@SaintDominicMedia Yes and all of those have a context. Paul was sure of his salvation as we can be. Eternal life is a free gift. Once we are saved as Dr. Taylor said, eph 2:10 tells us we have work to do but not for our salvation but for fruit. Thanks for responding.

Coming from the Baptist tradition, they went too far. After all, we worship the Lord God Almighty, He deserves our very best. I like a more formal form of worship. I would argue that anything less is not our best.
No, the early Church did it this way. It is not “unclean, cluttered, and unnecessary,” but rather acceptable to God who has through holy council directed the Church to worship in this way
As someone who has struggled with lust and is still surrounded by temptation I can say when we truly strive for closeness with Christ and continually pray, consistently.. I mean really consistently and continually throughout our day .. He takes that away and we start to see one another as true brothers sisters in the image of Christ. It’s almost like a fuzzy image of the flesh but a bright image of God. Hard to explain until you get it but it’s real. We can’t compromise on Gods words and teachings it only leads to a slow erosion of the truth and eventually what we’re seeing in society today.
Catholic here, i understand that it was not a debate, but father could support his claimings with Scripture showing everything we believe has his roots in it

I'd love to see all Christians stand together. Sure there are differences but those differences aren't the important things. What's important is being a child of God, accepting Jesus as our savior. Currently, the fastest growing religion is the Muslim faith. Not surprising when Christians aren't unified. If we stand together, even vote together, we can change the world, if we believe that through our prayers God will change the world Himself, without us taking control, then we'll see change. At least that's my belief. May God's will be done!
On child baptism; the Baptist pastor cited the story of Lydia getting baptised but missed out that it was not just her but her entire household. We do not have any proof there were no children. Same case applies to the Jailer of Paul and Silas. These two underscore the faith of the family in which the one person with conviction had; believing for their whole household’s conversion. ❤Shalom Love that Mural of Our Lady of Guadalupe📿
Jesus saved by faith alone. The 10 commandments don't save and Paul says anyone who tries to justify themselves by keeping them severs themselves from Christ because it shows you don't rely on Christ 100% but on your own obedience which will fail you.

There is no salvation outside the one true church that Jesus founded. Jesus did not find thousands of religions. He found one and with one there is only one shepherd, which is He. “You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church.”

You have come up with various solutions to ignore the bible as God's Word mainly trying to convince yourselves your church created it denying all God's sovereign power by fully writing it & putting it in correct canonization. As a revert back to my Catholic Faith from Protestantism, Catholics, especially clergy and leaders of the Church should really know and defend our Faith more clearly with Scripture. There are many scriptures that could have helped spell out the reason for the Catholics Church's teaching from the beginning through Apstolic Succession that were not used here by the Priest.

In relation to question 5 pastor Taylor did not answer the question but brought up the standard belief of Protestants of no priests other than High Priest of Christ and of all believers. According to Heb. 10:1 the Law (of Moses) is a shadow of the good things to come instead of their true forms. The Law has general priesthood of all Israelites (Exod. 19:6), Levitical priesthood (male descendants of Aaron) and High Priests (chosen among Levitical priests, one at a time). The New Covenant that came through Christ has general priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:5, Rev. 1:6). Christ is the only High Priest of the New Covenant of order of Melchizedek (Heb. 5:5, 8:1). How about Levitical priesthood? Following the Reformers Protestants consider it was abolished with the coming of Christ. When God established Levitical priesthood, He declared it to be perpetual (Exodus 40:15). Numbers 18:19 applies “covenant of salt” to this priesthood, which means it will last forever as salt is used to preserve food. Covenant of salt appears twice in OT and the second one is applied to kingship of David and his descendants through Solomon in 2 Chronicles 13:5, which is based on God’s promise to David (2 Samuel 7:12-13) - God will establish his throne through Solomon forever. The perpetuity of both Davidic kingship and Levitical priesthood were later reaffirmed by prophet Jeremiah in dual prophecy in Jer. 33:17-18. The first was fulfilled in Christ (Luke 1:32-33) and the second one is fulfilled in Levitical priests of the New Covenant who are the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox priests. Another prophecy in Isaiah 66:21 says that God will take as priests and levites from all the nations, or they no longer have to be Jewish. Levitical priests of Judaism cannot fulfill Jer. 33:18 - without their Jerusalem Temple they are no longer able to offer any sacrifice and/or all types of offerings as prescribed in OT (Lev. 1 to 7). Christ Himself put an end to OT sacrifice and offerings according to Heb. 10:9-10 by His own Sacrifice on the cross, once for all.
@@tlk4826 Why you did not respond to the points I raised, i.e. about priesthood? When a person works as a missionary then he brings grace of salvation to others through his missionary works. While grace comes from God through Christ we (NOT only Mary or Catholic Saints) can become a channel or mediator for grace. Scripture refers us as co-worker or fellow workers (1 Cor. 3:9, Greek sunergoi).
@@tlk4826 This my response on your charge that we believe in erroneous doctrine of justification. Scripture says God saves us or we are saved by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8) and through sanctification (2 Thes. 2:13). Salvation is a process, not just one time event or once saved always saved. If salvation is a process, then so is justification or how we are right with God. The Reformers' teaching that faith alone justifies us (sola fide) has no scriptural basis. The phrase "justified by faith" appears four times in NT (Rom. 3:28, 5:1, Gal. 2:16, 3:24). NT was written in Greek and the one in Rom. 3:28 is in Greek passive present tense while the rest are in Greek passive aorist tense. Both present and aorist tenses do NOT indicate a completed justification by faith. If Scripture teaches faith-alone justification, then the Holy Spirit would inspire Paul to write the phrase "justified by faith" in Greek passive perfect tense. The Reformers taught that through faith alone justification we get Christ' righteousness imputed on or counted on us, while all our sins (past, present AND FUTURE) are imputed on or counted on Christ who bore them on the cross. We are not made righteous but are only declared righteous based on alien righteousness of Christ - we remain sinner at the same time. That is why followers of the Reformers say that we are saved solely by what Christ did on the cross (Latin solus Christus). Imputation makes purgatory obsolete as it adds what Christ already did on the cross. However Scripture denies double imputation when it says in Ezek. 18:20: "the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself." Scripture denies that we can be both righteous and sinner at the same time in Ezek. 33:12: "the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins". Catholics, on the other hand, believe that through justification we are made righteous through Christ (Rom. 5:19). We lose righteousness through sinning as stated in Ezek. 33:12 cited above. Scripture says there are deadly and non-deadly sins (1 John 5:16-17) and full grown sins bring death (James 1:15). Under imputation concept of the Reformers what those verses say become meaningless as all our sins are counted on Christ. Moved and enabled by grace we repent and have our sins washed away or forgiven to regain our righteous state back. Faith is counted as righteousness (Rom. 4:3) and to do what is right makes us righteous (1 John 3:7). Faith is counted for righteousness to Abraham (Gen. 15:6) but what is counted (the same Hebrew verb as in Gen. 15:6) to Phinehas for righteousness in Psalms 106:31 is not faith but what he did. Our ability both to have faith, to do what is right and to repent comes from and is only possible by grace through Christ as apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). Why being made righteous is essential? Scripture says it is righteousness that delivers from death (Prov. 10:2) and Jesus said in Mat. 25:46 that the righteous shall go to eternal life. Catholics believe that we are saved by what Christ did on the cross and by what He and/or God do in us, that is we are transformed by grace (NOT by our own effort) from our unrighteous state to righteous one. Who is preaching the true Gospel?
@@justfromcatholic There is only one Mediator and it's Christ. We do use Brothers in Church, Saints and Mary to intercede for us in prayer. Just like Protestants use there fellow church participants for prayer . Which later say we only go straight to God
The pastor explained the Catholic definition of salvation by works. We believe we are saved by grace alone. Works is the outward expression of faith. Sadly 95% of Protestants believe “faith alone”. The only time the Bible says faith alone is when it says “you are not saved by faith alone.”
And no scripture says you are saved by Grace alone. Not one. Grace through faith. Meaning you receive grace when you place your faith in Him. Faith is a form of works. But not a means of earning but proof or evidence of the said faith. Calvinists don't follow the Bible either. In fact no denomination does. Denominations twist amd bend scripture to support their agendas or ideologies.

QUESTIONS!! I ask in love and full humility! 1. when you say "son of God", what do you mean? all throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, Israel is referred to as Gds son, why was it never mentioned that that was another son? 2. Where in the Hebrew Scriptures are we told to put our faith and trust in Jesus in order to avoid eternal punishment in hell? with such an important decision on the eternal destination of our soul, I would think Gd should have explicitly told us in plain text about this! 3. why is there a concept of "being saved" when, no where in the Hebrew bible does this concept exist? hell is never a threatened punishment for disbelief or ever for disobedience in following the laws, but why is it so prevalent in the christian message? that's all for now, thank you and again I look forward to being educated on this!
We’re never going to agree on all sacrament and doctrines. Just like the Roman and orthodox don’t agree. But as members of the Christs universal church we need to unite on the more important because sadly we won’t agree on all the issues. United in Christs divinity, the trinity and his death and resurrection for our redemption to God. And our commission to share the good news to this fallen world. If there’s no unity something is wrong and we can’t continue this way while the world devolves in its path.
If anyone accept Christ as their Savior and live accordingly they are His own. Stop debating among us and raise your voices against the evil. I know this was recorded earlier but Did you watched the Paris Olympics openings? Don't waste your time, God bless you all.

What I have a hard time understanding is how Mary is compared to the Ark of the Covenant when explaining how holy she is. However, was it the Ark itself that held the power and was holy above all else, or was it the presence of God that dwelt with it?
The OT ark was a box made holy by the holy things it contained. Mary is a human creature who held God himself in her womb for 9 months. The NT fulfillment is always greater than the OT foreshadow. God sanctifies what he touches. You died if you improperly touched the OT ark.
The biggest disagreement for baptists and Catholics is perception of things. The things Catholics do to venerate are things Christians only do towards God. Christians typically view prayer as something only to God, and it doesn't help that worhip and veneration are synonyms.

Roman Catholics are misunderstanding Matthew 16:18. The confession that "Jesus is the Christ the Son of God" is the only foundational truth that Christ builds His church on. Peter’s confession is the rock. And therefore each member of the congregation must begin their own personal transformation journey (born again) with their own personal confession of faith that Jesus the Son of God is the Christ.
@@MagnificatForever15 You are missing the context of Matthew 16:18, which is the confession of faith in Christ that Peter declared. The confession (affirmation of fact) that "Jesus is the Christ the Son of God" is the only foundational truth that Christ builds His church on.

The early Church was Catholic. As Newman said to know history then you cease to be protestant. The Catholic priest was very lightweight on the baptist pastor
Bottom line. Jesus never taught what the RCC teaches. The RCC teaches a WORKS salvation NOT a grace slavation. You MUST do the sacraments to be saved. Then you still go to Purgatory--which is never mentioned by Jesus. ODD.

That’s nice.

@@albertonuno1790 they aren’t lying. I think you are just misunderstanding Catholicism. Catholics do not hold them as equal value. Maybe start there?

Using the Bible
What I don’t understand at all is that why do people say that there is a difference between the word Catholic and Christian,I don’t understand that at all because in all infinite and eternal truth a Catholic is a Christian in total unity with the church and all it’s members in it throughout the whole world that’s what the word Catholic means. I just hope that God may help people to understand that,Amen 🙏
Catholic is Greek for universal. It appears in Acts 9:31, it's actually in original Greek text that you find it spelled as "Catholic".
Catholics are Christians. Not all Christians are Catholics. 😊
Once upon a time a pagan religion started & hijacked the word catholic to Roman catholic. Now itvis considered a bad word we don't want to identify with.
31¶Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied
ἐκκλησία, ἐκκλεσιας, ἡ (from ἔκκλητος called out or forth, and this from ἐκκαλέω); properly, a gathering of citizens called out from their homes into some public place; an assembly
How & where you pulled that out of I wonder.
It was actually one that you call "church fathers" that first use that term, think Ignatius or some dude in the 2nd century.
This was great! The church needs more of this!❤
Catholics ARE Christians.
Nope, Christ alone.
I prefer Catholic and Protestant
Disciples are JEWISH, followers of “The Way” (Acts 24:14), then called Christians (Acts 11:26), next,

God Bless

(405 A.D.) Theodore: “[Christ] did NOT say, ‘This is the SYMBOL of but, this is my body.’ my blood,’ the EUCHARIST.” (Catechetical Homilies 5:1)
(33 A.D.) “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have NO life in you.” (John 6:53) (Mt. 26:26-29) (Luke 22:19-20)
(70 A.D.) The Didache: Sunday, “Offer the Eucharist… in every place & time… a pure sacrifice.” (14:1-3) (CCC 1322-1419) (430 B.C.) “Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering.” (Malachi 1:11)
(189 A.D.) St.
@georgefuentes4112 2000 years ago, of course, for it is a matter of interpretation (40 thousand plus) and that is without authority.
Like what?
Aren’t we as Catholics, supposed to do our best to bring our brethren in Christ to the one true catholic and apostolic Church?
The one true church sure likes abusing kids

This is really less of a face off but just a sharing of what each church believes.
It's interesting that pastor Dr Steve, addressed the priest as "Father". This is one enlightened pastor. Amen
@@HallowithAlex
The word 'holy' has 2 levels of meaning.

A entertaining question could have been “can we loose our salvation”? 😂
TRUTH 100%
Can you imagine if he’d gone back to Sara and said,
“God spoke to me again.
Oh. What did he say?
He said to sacrifice Isaac.
He did? Are you sure it was him?
Definitely. God said it.
So are you going to do it?
No way. That’s just crazy.”
Abraham exemplified the obedience of faith that Paul said was his own purpose.
If you interpret James this way, you must interpret Romans 9 the same way.

3:12-15). It is never about us; it is always about Jesus and His Church and that includes ceremony and traditions.
Remember when Jesus said: “ how would YOU like me to come worship me?” What makes you FEEL good ?”

Coming from the Baptist tradition, they went too far. After all, we worship the Lord God Almighty, He deserves our very best. I like a more formal form of worship. I would argue that anything less is not our best.
From east to west, a perfect offering shall be made. This means there must be a pattern followed by all concerned.
No, the early Church did it this way. It is not “unclean, cluttered, and unnecessary,” but rather acceptable to God who has through holy council directed the Church to worship in this way

@tlk4826 a big essay to illuminate you have no idea what you're talking about! 😂 L
That text where it says by faith and not by works..is talking about works of the LAW!!!!!!!

I understand that we have to have dialogue with other religious leaders, but it seems that the pastors is telling the priest what they are doing wrong, it seems like if the priest are consulting him about what we believe as Catholics.
Respect for the introduction recognizing that Christian pastors are different than Catholic priests. Because Christian pastors are Christian. However this video and format seem to promote competition and quarreling. Paul warned Christians not to waste their time with empty words and debates, as well as advised Christians not to be quarrelsome.
Why isnt Jesus enough for Catholics? Even the priest is constantly saying yes....and...
The indignant Prots here in the comments are so typical but still wild😂
I went to catholic school and sister are the most dangerous teacher 😂😂😂
great. I love my catholic church but if you are a protestant go to this pastors church instead of those mega churches or the ones on tv please. God bless
13:37 I like how he described the Catholic Churches view but thinks it’s different
Who else clicked because the priest on the right looks like magnus carlson
The Bible came from the sacred tradition of the Catholic Church.
Don't be a dope! Just as GOD inspired HIS Word to be written by using men HE did the exact very same when canonizing it HIS way.
False, putting tradition ahead of our Lord and Saviors sacrifice is at the very least very wrong. God bless you and your family.
@@goattygoat9489 Our Lord used the Catholic Church through it's sacred Tradition to gift the world the Bible so that we have a common cannon of scripture to be read from during the liturgy of the word in the holy sacrifice of the mass throughout the entire world.
@@Coastie4 I see, it's Pride, "Hey look what we gave you". Your traditions & church come before Almighty GOD. You're just maintaining Romanism as the Roman religion, it is clear & obvious.
Scripture came from tradition of the catholic church?
I 've been catholic all my life. (71). I don't understand how a catholic priest can be married. Can you explain?
@gloriaperreault309 Absolutely, Fr. Doug Martin was ordained in the Episcopal Church, converted to Catholicism, then years later was ordained a Catholic priest. Hope that helps!
Works vs. Grace.
Are you ever gonna get around to it?
DID YOU SAY CATHOLIC VS CHISTIAN?????!!!! REALLY??! CATHOLICS R'NT CHRISTANS??!!
How does a celibate priest party? Asking for a friend. 😊
Telling you like to party and drink whiskey does not prompt me to trust your interpretation of the Word. 13:40
Boring
🥱
That's not the way the Apostles and church fathers understood and taught for 1500+ years
@@MagnificatForever15 You are missing the context of Matthew 16:18, which is the confession of faith in Christ that Peter declared.
The confession (affirmation of fact) that "Jesus is the Christ the Son of God" is the only foundational truth that Christ builds His church on.
always looking for a way to deny authority. Your interpretation looks like man made. Jesus changes Simon to Peter meaning rock. Since when The Rock turned to confession?
As a born catholic (wich I did not have option), now christian for God's grace.
Easier for a catholic to find the truth (Christ) becoming christian, than a christian to find the truth going to catholicism (with their saints, dogmas, tradition, magisterium. All these man-made).
Not all christians are christians. All catholics are not christians.
May God bless you all.
Dr. Taylor (Baptist) should debate Dr. Taylor Marshal (Catholic).
Taylor Marshall is a desenter against pipe Francis and is not a good catholic
Both are baptist by nature
Pastor confused me at 13:05 "A person that does not have a life that's reflective in how they do life and work, like their pattern of that Jesus inside, that's a problem" ..... . What's the problem? Loss of salvation? So, if a person's life works is not consistent with a believer in Christ, there's a problem ? This sounds very Catholic to me..... I thought Baptists were all about Faith alone and works don't matter....
Problem as in "him claiming he gave his life to Jesus"
A true believer whom the holy spirit resides will bear fruits.which would mean he wasn't saved at all.
Virgin de Guadalupe in the background
The early Church was Catholic. As Newman said to know history then you cease to be protestant. The Catholic priest was very lightweight on the baptist pastor
He seriously made a distinction between Catholic and Christian….
This is pitiful.
Yeah. Baptists and Catholics are both Christians. If you believe in the nicene creed; you’re Christian in doctrine.
@@davidluciemable3778no if you’re baptized properly you’re a Christian
there is no difference , they are one in the same
Yes, he needs knowledge.
@@miamaria333 What’s more pitiful is that he wasn’t CHECKED on that.
Where is the backbone of the saints?
Bottom line. Jesus never taught what the RCC teaches. The RCC teaches a WORKS salvation NOT a grace slavation. You MUST do the sacraments to be saved. Then you still go to Purgatory--which is never mentioned by Jesus. ODD.
Let him talk to Steve Ray and Ken Hensley....
My problem with the catholic church is they never want to give up power and the church is not literal the church is all of us as christ followers period
