Hey y'all, THANK YOU for the review! The folks at Black Draft and in Martinsburg are proud of what we do. Cheers!!!
rex's face at the intro makes the whole week worth it
The Rexual energy in this episode is fantastic.
Really awesome seeing back-to-backs of different expressions - the comparisons are killer. Reminds me a bit of the frequent cameos/comparisons from earlier episodes. Cheers, my dudes.
I live about 20 minutes away from Old 55. Today I went there and had a delightful experience. Super friendly staff and informative. I bought the BIB and fell in love with it as their first whiskey for me to try. I have only had three other bottles of whiskey, Monkey Shoulder, Tullamore Dew and Bulleit Rye. This is tied with Tullamore Dew. Also, the alcohol burn is very minor compared to the others, being new this is going to be a frequent bottle in my house. I am breaking my one bottle rule with this one.
Both Old 55 whiskeys are wheated bourbons, and both use sweet corn instead of standard yellow corn. Old 55 is farm to glass, everything is grown on their farm, and the Fruits family that owns it is good people. I have both these bottles and did an AB over the summer, with very similar takeaways. Cheers!
No, there is no sweet corn in the mash bill for these bottles. They do make a separate 100% sweet corn bourbon. I just did a tasting and tour at the distillery a couple weeks ago.
Super excited Black Draft made it!!! I got to taste some of the rye that, I think, they are releasing soon. My first Rye but I loved it! Happy to see my local whiskey here!
I've had 4 bottles of the Old 55 single barrel. Drank 3, gifted 1. I wish I'd kept it.
I was a Maker's Mark man for over 20 years. One day last year my father in law gave me a small shot of Old 55 he got from one of his friends that owns one of the liquor stores in town. The store wasn't allowed to sell it, but the store owner did cash deals for it. He had half a case and once I tasted it, I wound up buying 4 bottles. It's the best whiskey I have ever had in my life and I want more so bad. I live in Indiana, but it's a 6 hour round trip to New Town.
I own both of those Old 55 bottles. My single barrel barrel strength was a little below 55% but still all of those same tasting notes. I am happy to see them getting love on here.
It is great that you tape a weeks worth of episodes at once so we viewers can believe that Emma has kept the Laphroaig on the wall all week long.
Indiana distillery with a bottle named "NOT MGP"
Speaking of Old Forester, I always get a strong banana note from them. The only whisky so far to give me banana
Me too, I get a little of it on some other Brown-Forman products too, but especially OF.
Jack daniels sb bp has the banana note too, more of a bananas foster for me.
The missing knife in question (baby knife) is a Kershaw Cinder. Nice blade and bottle opener. Next one...will have safety leash and attached to podium. Lol.
Doing as everyone else and having a drink will watchin.
A nice glass of congac! Cheers MBs
Well done Daniel. Well done. Rex....gotta take back you rwf intro before Daniel won’t need you anymore lol
Historic moment!
Why don’t all of us that are going to be observing Dry Week send the money they’d spend on whiskey that week to a) their local food bank b) the 501c Whiskey School that Rex and Daniel run.
I actually live about 30 minutes away from the Spirit of French Lick distillery. I've never been but might have to check it out.
Ooh, USA made Kershaw Leek spotted at 9:38. Where my knife nerds at?
Benchmade or die 😏
Good Morning Gentlemen. Little late today, had 8 inches of snow to move in the driveway. Yeah winter is here.
Would love to see a video of you guys trying different cool rums :)
I have a bottle of Old 55's 100% Sweet Corn bourbon but haven't tried the others. It's pretty good, sweet & corny as one might expect. I also have a bottle of the SoFL Lee Sinclair 4 grain. I get what Daniel & Rex are saying about it but I like it a bit more than they do. I can't day that I get much of a pine note, maybe I'm perceiving it as something else.
Good Job Emma. More Laphroaig 10 in the back!
Glad you guys liked the Black Draft! I’ve now bought 5 of the 200 bottles from that barrel/bottling haha
Also did Rex steal the tube sock
HOT DAMN... Daniel did it again!!! :)
Dry Week. So Texas.
Rex needs to relax more... 0:28
Greg Vangsness here. "Bells and Smells," if you please, Daniel Whittington! lol (Not my denominational tradition either, BUT...) Cheers!
I have a similar feeling about the Sinclair. Not my favorite but has some interesting things going. Wait until you get to the old 55 100% sweet corn
Bro, I can’t believe it’s you. All the way back to the old days at St. Monica!! I hope you’ve been doing well. I’ll be adding Old 55 to my list of whiskeys to try (just now getting into the world). Take care, man.
Ive had a few barrel picks which were barrel proof. Pretty damn tasty
We need Rex Month.
I also sent in a bottle of Black Draft many months ago.
Happy Friday from Phoenix fellas 🥃
The Black Draft might be the first store pick on here I could actually get. I would still have to drive about 3 1/2- 4 hours, but it's a lot closer than most.
Anyone else noticed the laphroaig bottle on the shelf? 😂
Every new episode i look for it 🤣
Been to old 55 and French lick distilleries. Love the old 55 bourbon
Love you guys.
Is there a brandy vault
French Lick, IN. Home of Larry Bird.
I wonder what the rules for charring a barrel are. Could you use chunks of peat to char the barrel but still call it unpeated whiskey?
Another dry week? Geez someone tell these two you don't win friends with salad!
Side note: I love my trips to Indiana, they're no Kentucky but still doing some interesting things for the whiskey world
Hey I just started my journey into whiskey a few weeks ago. This channel and the whiskey tribe channel have been really entertaining and helpful tools as I try to find my way, but I don't see much content on lowland scotch. I was wondering if Daneil and Rex have covered this region and where those videos are? If not, would love to see a video talking about some lowland whiskeys!
You guys always describe this Canadian note, which makes me wonder: is there a readily available, "high quality" Canadian whiskey worth looking into?
Yeah Emma.
Wooo... Daniel did it...
I used to work at a liquor store in Maryland and I knew that last bottle looked familiar.
Was the bourbon stored with the Brandy I wonder?
I will always wonder if the logo on Rex's hoodie is an actual logo, or a Rorschach blob of peanut butter.
Came for the reviews stayed for the "reviews"
Indiana represent!
Damn Daniel nailid it.
Rex, while you're gasming, don't forget that Daniel's being able to cite the RWF opening does make you superfluous...
Have you guys conceded to Emma or just not notice? Been several episodes now.
I don't drink, so my dry week is going to be without pot. this is going to be easy haha
Rare Whiskey Friday: Local whiskeys that you probably can't buy, but we review them anyway. (done)
Words and stuff
Not going to be able to participate in dry week due to my birthday on the 15th......oh well
Hey fellas is bottled in bond called such because of the proof?
It's a throwback term originating from the "Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897" which was implemented to hinder tampering, adulteration, and scams in the whiskey industry at that time. The government basically acted as a guarantor of authentic whiskey and provided a tax incentive for the distillers involved. To be qualified as BIB, "whiskey must be the product of one distilling season from one distillery (no blends), aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years, and bottled at 100 proof."
@@WhiskeyVault instructions unclear. Rash appearing on perineum. Please advise
@@WhiskeyVault cheers guys. I've watched a few history doc's on bourbon whisky and I've not heard that term before. Perhaps you guys could do a show on the whole bourbon whisky history.
The Bottle Lord song just keeps getting jankier and jankier; keep up the great work you MBs
Daniel, I know you like your knowledge. Look up beaver vanilla flavoring.
Time to drink
What’s the difference between a cask strength and a bottled in bond?
Quite a lot. Are you asking about proof/abv?
@@jonclark2234 just overall, I’ve heard them talk about Bottled in Bond but I’m not quite sure what that means
@@AndrewDembouski somebody else asked in these comments and The Vault answered in detail
@@AndrewDembouski Bottled in bond applies to US whiskeys only. It means 100 proof and comes from one distillery in one distillery season. This was to ensure quality and authenticity.
Cask strength is simply a whiskey that has not been diluted during cask maturation. You can get various proofs from that but in range of 52-66 ABV. So cask strength is usually stronger than bottled in bond and not as tightly regulated.
This isn't a comment about this video, but hey. Been watching your vids for ages now - Team Rex :), because he's such an idiot (said with luv lol) - Love the info 'Dan" gives though. Very entertaining guys. Because of you magnificent bastards I've been WANTING to like whisky. Well now I think I've found it. 'JW Double Black nice flavor, but, 'Talisker 10' OMFG I love the lingering smoke. Ty for your insights. Time for more exploration woohoo
I just don't get this new note you guys keep bringing up? tannen, Tannen, Tannen? What does biff Tannen taste like? Hints of horse Dukey?!!
Tannins are complex chemical substances derived from phenolic acids (sometimes called tannic acid). They are classified as phenolic compounds, which are found in many species of plants, from all climates and all parts of the globe. They are large molecules that bind readily with proteins, cellulose, starches, and minerals. These resulting substances are insoluble and resistant to decomposition. Tannins occur in many species of coniferous trees as well as a number of flowering plant families. These tannins can leach out of the plants. The water in the soil becomes rich with tannins and seeps into the ground water or drains into lakes and streams. These waters become brown in color and look like tea.
@@AndrewDembouski sorry I guess sarcasm doesn't come through in text. They have just been saying it more than any note latley. Just trying to poke some fun. Hence the back to the future Biff Tannen reference.... thank you for the very thorough info though!
@@thomasleffers5304 I gotchu haha I thought your comment was funny
EMMA! EMMA!
Today is a special friday so I'm opening my JW 🔵
LAPHROAIG IN THE FRAME!
BRUH dry week starts on my 21st birthday
Gif it!
Love the videos but it kind of grinds my gears when Daniel and Rex say "I can see that" about smells.
I feel ya

I can see what you mean by that....but not really. Perhaps it's a southwest thing, but I say that rather often and I am from Southern California. I hear people say it all the time out here in agreeance in Arizona now too. Perhaps it's a regional thing? Or a personal thing? But no judgement is held. We all have our own pros and cons about certain actions or wording.
......... DID YOU HEAR THAT?????
He is 2 for 100 now
I think Rex is trying to mooch Daniel's look. He's got the beard, jeans, black t-shirt (hidden under hoodie but there). Now he just needs to shave his head.
Review old monk legend🥃 magnificent bastar..
