Mike, only you could make the Art of War about the CEO of Walmart. Also; apparently the way to read through those less good WoT books is to audiobook it. It's what they all say over on their subreddit!
Your year end video inspired me to start Sherlock Holmes. I’ve had “the Definitive Collection™” sitting on my shelf for over a decade. I finally picked it up and I’m loving it!
I bought one definitive collection when i went to england in 2022. Last year a friend of mine gave me another one,but in portuguese. I never decided wich one i should read so i never started it kkkkk
If you're into mystery like sherlock, ever tried poirot? Or Agatha Christie in general? She can definitely compete with sir Doyle. Currently reading through her stuff and I'm really enjoying it.
I read Murder on the Orient Express a long time ago. But I do remember enjoying it! I'll have to read her other books (and maybe that one again since I don't really remember it).
As a former employee of WM, I can tell you your analogy was spot on. At one time, the employees were cared about, and you could see that in some of the perks that were offered, but over the last couple decades, those perks (and even a lot of the basic benefits like good raises) were cut back on significantly or went away completely. Moby Dick is a book I ended up loving, but would not readily recommend because it really is dense and most people don't care for all the whaling information. My guess is it was put in there because the average person at the time didn't really know anything about sailing or whaling (plus he had some philosophical ideas he wanted to explore too). But the overall story really intrigued me and the ending... well, I won't spoil it, but it really solidified my opinion of the book.
The fact you are not giving up on Wheel of Time Will make you really happy and grateful later on, I promise!!!! 😊 Book 10 is kinda bad, but books 11-14 are terrific!!! ❤
I know it's apples and oranges, but you remind me of a mate that swore to me that I have to play Wasteland 3 because it gets really good 30 hours in. Cheers!
When I was a kid my dad took me to the whaling museum in New Bedford and on island of Nantucket. I loved it and read Moby Dick. It had art nouveau illustrations.
Wrote my thesis on Moby Dick. White whale, white wale, white wail, wight whale, wight wale, wight wale. That's the reason for the etymologies and extracts, I think it is a giant kenning. Ishmael is a skrimshander making art of the enduring material of the whale. He covers all of it. I think of it as a missal describing every part of a ritual action. And the end slays. It is so good. Hast seen the whale?
Good stuff as always Mike! I'll try to keep the whale industry rants in mind once I get to Moby Dick in the future (but procrastinating on that book seems more tempting now lol)
Incredibly random for me, because I'm not religous, but I love philosophy ... I picked up the Bible. I feel like I'm doing a sin when reading the bible, because I don't think it's supposed to be fun to read. But to me, it just is. Sure, I haven't gotten far, but everything I have read so far has just been so interesting and intriguing. I know it's probably not gonna last, and it's probably just so intriguing because I'm in the beginning with Adam and Eve, and Noah's Ark, which are all massive events, but still. I really hope I can finish the Bible.
Regardless whether you are religious or not, there is no denying that the bible is one of (if not the most) important books ever written. Having been raised in a Catholic family, I know there are definitely some good stories in there, but I haven't ever read the bible personally though
I haven’t gotten to the slog yet in Wheel of Time, so unfortunately I can’t tell you if it gets better, but everyone says that 11-14 are incredible, as well as New Spring. In January I finished: A Christmas Carol (Charles Dickens)(5 stars) The Time Machine (H. G. Wells)(5 stars) The Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway)(4 stars) The Sword of the Lictor (Gene Wolfe)(4 stars) What Is the Story of Godzilla? (Sheila Keenan)(4.5 stars)(It was for a book swap with my little brother, but I actually did learn some stuff) What Is Nintendo? (Gina Shaw)(5 stars)(Also a book swap; also learned stuff) The Apology (Plato)(5 stars) The Citadel of the Autarch (Gene Wolfe)(4.5 stars) Antigoné (Sophocles)(4 stars) Meditations (Marcus Aurelius)(4 stars) Empire of Silence (Christopher Ruocchio)(5 stars) The Art of War (Sun Tzu)(4.5 stars)
Hey man I don't know whether you have read the The Alchemyst:The secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flamel and Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz series but I recommend it for a try!
Kinda sad about your thoughts on The Wheel Of the Time series. I've only read the first two books and the experience was exciting. Since then I've been trying to improve my english just to read the whole series (The publisher stopped publishing it after the eighth book here in Brazil )

I see Carl Sagan, I click.

That's great to hear!

Really enjoy these videos, man! Keep it up! 👍🏻
Thank you!

wtf.... 14 books, 1000 pages each, and only books 11-14 are terrific?! If I were a teenager, maybe...
@Azarath26 books 8,9 and 10 are not that good, they are part of the slog.
Books 1-7 are amazing too. 😁
I know it's apples and oranges, but you remind me of a mate that swore to me that I have to play Wasteland 3 because it gets really good 30 hours in.

@@oberstul1941 Wheel of Time worked for me at least.Im glad I read The entire series in 2 years. 🙏
When I was a kid my dad took me to the whaling museum in New Bedford and on island of Nantucket. I loved it and read Moby Dick. It had art nouveau illustrations.
I also read The Art of War by Sun Tzu. It was great, and will help me out when I write the battle-scenes in my books.
Excellent video as always! Are you going to rank all the Carl Sagan books on a separate video? That would be fun to watch. 📚
I certainly can do that!
@miketravelsnowhere6557 Yay! I look forward to it! 😁❤️

At some point you should check out The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger after reading Moby Dick.
Cool, thank you for the recommendation!

Hey as a Christian the Bible is one of the most fun books for me to read! I’m a huge history nerd so all of the books fascinate me greatly.

I liked the video right from the start.
Thank you!
There's actually someone on Amazon selling 'The Pale Blue Dot' for $3,000!

Wow impressive! I really like the variety you have there
@@miketravelsnowhere6557 Thanks. It looks a lot more impressive than it is. That’s a lot of short books. Haha
I will have to check Carl Sagan out, his book sounds like a good read!
I hope you enjoy it!

You have to read Christmas carol during Christmas 😂

I read Moby Dick in 2023. It's very hard to find someone to talk to about this book in Russian.
