Naito opens his eye because early in his career he wrestled in Mexico and the fans used to mock him for being Japanese buy squinting their eyes.
But, has this ever been referenced on AEW programming? I'll give you one guess...

I disagree with one statement from Cornette during the entire video. He called Claudio "one of the two top stars [for AEW]". Claudio has diminished so much since leaving WWE he's barely an afterthought.
The only time he has been a top star was in old ROH.
@@12012channel I'd say he was a valued member of the midcard in WWE as a multi-time tag team champ. They gave him a pretty decent push in his final year or two there with wins over Rollins, a program with Roman, and teased a confrontation with Brock.
In AEW he's the 3rd, arguably 4th most important guy in his faction back when Tony and Danielson were trying to make Yuta a thing and the AEW stans were calling Wheeler the next Stone Cold or Rock.
PLEASE do more watch-alongs of bad modern matches, this is fantastic!

BCC is a faction with no direction it's just a faction for the sake of faction. The contribution of BCC is non-existent. Half of the time they aren't even working as Faction, rather a singles star.
Judgement Day have their own storyline but they still work as Faction same is the case for BCC.

Moxley is just so bad. Most of the time he just completely no-sells everything but the odd time when he sells something a little bit it still looks incredibly lazy. It's like he knows he has to occasionally sell something for his opponent so he's just doing it begrudgingly like he's really pissed that he ever has to make anyone but himself look good.
This needs to be a regular thing. Take the worst segment match/promo and have them watch along.

Loved prior watch alongs. This one with aew was depressing. Seeing why aew is insulting to the old wrestling business is sad.
Naito's eye thing is a reference to his time when he first wrestled in North America. The fans treated him terribly, making fun of his "slanted" eyes. Naito originally used that as motivation in his matches ever since.
The masked guy has a very successful chicken shack stand in Tokyo

I swallowed my pride and watched this along too. WTF did I just watch. This was horrendous and even Claudio has lost the plot.
This makes no sense, it was Shingo/Bryan and Naito/Moxley at the ppv, so why were Naito and Danielson not in this match, why do these guys have to fight couple days before the big show and Bryan and Naito just get to chill, and since when is Titan in LIJ, do they just add whoever they want in these matches just cuz they can
I don't get it, why not Takagi/Naito/Hiromu vs Mox/Bryan/Yuta, wouldn't have that made more sense, they were right there, we saw them, so why have them on the show but not wrestle, make it make sense

Just finished watching the match now, I highly recommend that for anyone who defends AEW, to watch this match. It's from the June 26, 2024 episode of Dynamite and this is the reason why AEW is bad. And there's a reason why wrestling is also called "professional wrestling" because the BCC vs LIJ is what you get when it's NOT professional.
Holy crap, from the looks of everyone in the ring and to the wrestling itself, this is what you get when you have some stupid high-school students pretending to play make-believe wrestling. One of the Japanese guys kept throwing forearm punches that was literally hitting the air. And when some Japanese guy made a surprise appearance at the end of the match, it was supposed to be some big deal but no one knew who he was. I somehow did but I still didn't care. Moreover, Moxley races to fight the guy and only for both of them to throw air forearm punches slowly. All the while the commentary is like, "They're throwing bombs!" This was just awful.
I kinda hope Jim and Brian do more watch-alongs of AEW lol.
I haven't watched an AEW match in a long time, because why would I? But I decided to watch this along with Jim...and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Unless Jim keeps doing these watch alongs, I probably won't watch another match for as long as AEW is a thing.
Phony, soft looking forearms that aren't landing anywhere near anyone's face. Yuta and the Japanese guys look like they should be wrestling at an anime convention. The match is moving 100 miles a minute at all times. Guys were legit just doing stuff. Nothing had any impact. Everything looked sloppy, and the crowd was just sitting there...staring

Tony loves "trios" because of THAT ROH match from years ago. Supercard of Honor 2006 Do Fixer vs Blood Generation. Amazing match, still holds up today. So that's why we have endless multiman matches.

I don't remember the name of Jim's kayfabe manager, but can he negotiate for AEW to pay Jim to do a watchalong commentary once a week? It would probably be AEW's highest rated clip on RUclips and Jim being paid to point out their bad product wouldn't hurt AEW credibility since they already have none.
Naito does the thing with his eyelid because when he wrestled in Mexico, the locals would mock him for having monolids and tell him to "open his eyes"

As critical as I've been of AEW, Ospreay may be exactly what they need BACKSTAGE. One would have thought Bryan, Christian, and Edge could have helped more but it felt like backstage was to self centered and immature. Maybe Ospreay can turn things around.
Speaking as someone who like Will is autistic, one thing we're good for is integrity, structure and questioning authority even when it may be uncomfortable.
