The sooner and more often they get cleaned, the easier they are to maintain later on down the road! Plus it'll give you a chance to catch any issues before they get too serious!
I use chemical guys total interior cleaner and protectant. It's it's mild cleaner and it had some anti static properties to help with dust. Leaves nice finish.
I just started using their upholstry cleaner for cars! I really like their stuff. What's funny is that I used armorall to clean and protect consoles for years and wasn't until fairly recently that I found out a lot of gaming museums use that too! The antistatic properties are absolutely key!
The polyethylene sleeve? Those can be a bit tricker, any white abrasions or markings is proper full damage to the material itself. Novus Step 1 will work to a point, googone will reduce the markings (but also can increase hazing in some cases). I've got a series planned for those sleeves, all the way up to how to remove and replace them!
I accept that Until Dawn and Dark Pictures is basically what FMVs are moving forward. And since FMVs are the highest form of video gaming, I cherish each and every one!
I'm currently using Method: All Purpose Cleaner (in clementine scent), mostly because it's partially plant-based. The polyethylene sleeves on DVD cases can be a bit fragile over the years, so the less chemicals (and chemical based cleaners) I can use the better. Regular dish soap and water works just as fine too! My goal is to have a chemical-free cleaning process for every type of media. But you mostly just want to stay away from anything alcohol based or anything that's heavy with glycols (those will be thicker). But like, I've filled a sink with soapy water and scrubbed X360 cases in there. Works just fine once they're completely dry. The less chemical impact you have on the cases, the less likely you are to impact the poly layers. I'm moving away from using cleaning wipes as I've found their levels of alcohol are getting higher, so you'll see some streaking/hazing on the sleeves from them. A "cleaning chemicals" video is def in the works!

If the plastic cover on the case is scratched can you buff these out with Novus? Or some other cleaner?
