@@stevenmonte7397 it is at least 28, because I looked over the list they have on that website and they didn't even include the harmonica on it which he's playing IN THE VIDEO for "Thieves In The Temple" - also Bob Dylan (known for his harmonica-playing) is from Minneapolis, and Prince would have grown up with that type of music on a lot of the radio there. Which is one reason why Joni Mitchell was his favorite artist growing up.

I saw this movie in the theatre when it first came out. I think I was 15 or 16 and this scene at the end blew my little mind. And he was still fairly young here. You should watch the tribute to George Harrison at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where Prince joins the band for “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and he steals the show. He was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Honestly one of the greatest musicians of all time.

I get so excited when someone is just discovering Prince. He is one of the best guitarists of all time. What you saw there was just the tip of the iceberg. He wrote, played all the instruments, sang every note, and produced almost all of his songs by himself. His live performances are epic. I hope you’ll check out the live version of America, Purple Rain (there are many amazing versions. I think the one from the Purple Rain tour at Syracuse or the 1985 American Music Awards are the best), Motherless Child, Play That Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging/Fantastic Voyage… if you want to see his version of Nothing Compares 2 U, check out the one from the Glam Slam show (a duet with Rosie Gaines). To see what a great piano player he is, check out this piano medley from the Lovesexy tour in 1988. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop with those. Hope you’ll continue getting to know Prince. He is the best to have ever done it 💜💜💜

Not only could Prince play the guitar, but he is regarded as the BEST rock guitarist of his generation by many of his peers and critics. He was also proficient in dozens of other instruments. Prince was a musical genius. He wrote, produced, and arranged nearly all of his albums. He's played ALL of the instruments in several of his early albums. For his debut, he was told that Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire was going to be the producer. Prince flat out refused. He said, "Nobody is producing my album, but me." Prince was music. Prince was rock n' roll, soul, funk, R&B, pop, jazz and blues.

That doesn't mean he didn't love Jimi also though, but people do compare based on just the fact that they're black guitarists with multi-ethnic bands, which is a shame.

This song was written by the girls in the band and he kept blowing them off. In the movie, his father attempted suicide, and he was so upset that he was “Shocked” into listening to the song and then sang it with his band. He won the contest he was competing in with his band. You need to see the movie to understand his character and complicated relationship he had with his father who was a wonderful pianist who wrote his own music. The Minneapolis sound is where Prince Rodgers Nelson was introduced to the world!

To see Prince show I believe it was Rolling Stone and their guitar player ratings in their place, you need to watch him play While My Guitar Gently Weeps. He performed this at George Harrison's R&R induction along with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhanni Harrison and Steve Winwood. He killed it! Prince played every instrument. If someone in the band wasn't playing it exactly how he wanted he would show them. He has over 8000 songs that he has written. The only time it rained at the Superbowl was the day he performed. When they called him he just said could they make it rain harder. All time best Superbowl performance!

His music director and keyboard player for over 20 years, Morris Hayes, has done interviews that are so good. My favorite was the 4 part interview he did with Fil on the Wings of Pegasus channel. Morris Hayes is a fan talent and he recently has become friends with a young guitar player and has gone to his shows and even played Purple Rain onstage with him. He seems a fantastic guy. The guitar player is 14 yr old Taj Farrant. If you haven't seen him yet, you will. He's going to be one of the future superstars. Check him out even if you don't react to him. He was a musical genius . . . the Mozart of our time. One my collage classmates was an extra in this video, she was in the audience. I wasn't there for the movie shoot but was fortunate to hear/see him perform on the First Ave stage on several occasions both before the movie release when he really blew up big, and after when he would just pop in unannounced and play a set. One time he almost stabbed my hand with the heel of his boot when he jumped off a speaker. He was tiny in stature but an ENORMOUS presence on stage. Don't want to sound cheesy but he was one with the music, it poured out of him. That is the only way I can describe it.

Prince was also a musical genius. He taught himself how to play over 40 instruments. And he wrote some of the biggest hits the industries ever known. Sinead O'Connor rocked Nothing Compares To You, but Prince wrote it. He did it first, and he did it better! So many people don't realize the gift we lost when we lost this man.

Cool reaction. Watch the movie, it puts the great song in better context. If u watch "making of the rain" concert on you tube the version of purple rain became the album version. He added the orchestra later. Before this tour started, he was tired of purple rain.
At rehearsal, stage was three tiers, ten feet higher than the other. He was on top tier in the bath tub, tub wasn't nailed down, he stood up a little, the tub flipped over w prince inside, hitting each tier til he hit the floor. They though he died. After that, every night, playing in pain.
    Good prince guitar songs:
    "Feline" rehearsal
"Computer blue" st louis studio version
    "Temptation"
"The ride" 1998 from crystal ball album
"Head" live 1981 houston has cool guitar distortion
    "Alexa de paris" 1986
    "3121" from BET awards show
Cool reaction. Prince dremed purple rain a country western song. He got the melody from a journey song

Quick comment as I didn’t see anyone had made it - he DID do a version of “nothing compares to U”. Apparently - and this is from memory and also could have been a bad source, he didn’t approve it being given to Sinned to do, and kind of resented her having the success she had with it. I think she spoke about it in an interview, and also…hmmm…there may have been an accusation of him trying things on with her and being a tool about it - I’m fairly sure I remember either her speaking about that, or someone saying it is in her autobiography.
The impression I get is that he was an incredible talent (often playing all the instruments on a track and producing it himself - reminds me of Ren), but could also be a tool at times. I’m sure he was nice to his mum etc and there are lots of people who have good things to say, but I think there are a few credible sources that …he could be a tool too.

Yeah - checked and from one report after her death:
“Prince and O’Connor’s relationship became turbulent after the Purple Rain singer reportedly called her to his mansion to chat.
According to O’Connor, the megastar turned violent after giving her a piece of his mind and bizarrely insisting she eats soup while visiting.”
      And
“Over the years, the This Is The Day singer has accused Prince of being furious at her success with his record which she transformed into a power ballad.
O’Connor’s version became a chart hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and staying there for four weeks as well as reaching the tops of the UK charts.
The pair had not met before this moment, although O’Connor believed her manager and Prince had had some disagreement prior.
Prince apparently summoned O’Connor to his mansion for the dressing down but allegedly turned violent, offering a pillow fight to settle their differences.
She claimed the music legend hit her with a hard object hidden inside a pillowcase, although she backtracked on her claims in 2004.”
‘It’s not just drugs he was into, it was darkness,’ she told investigators from the Carver County Sheriff’s Office in a recorded interview which took place two weeks after the death.
When she tried to escape his ‘macabre’ Hollywood home, O’Connor claimed Prince blocked her and then physically dragged her to his car.
She sprinted away on foot to a neighbour’s house and rang the doorbell desperately, at which point Prince abandoned the pursuit.
In her memoir, Rememberings, O’Connor wrote: ‘Firstly, Prince didn’t like people covering his songs. Secondly, he had all these female protégés and he was annoyed that I wasn’t one of them.
‘Thirdly, my manager Steve Fargnoli had been his manager and they were involved in a legal case. On top of all this he was a woman-beating ****. I’m certainly not the only woman he laid a hand on.’

Also - although Prince apparently publicly said he liked her version:
“The Prince estate did decline the use of the song for the 2022 documentary Nothing Compares, focusing on O’Connor’s life.
Prince’s half-sister Sharon Nelson told Billboard: ‘I didn’t feel [O’Connor] deserved to use the song my brother wrote in her documentary so we declined. His version is the best.’”

@@sputukgmailNeither of his wives, nobody who ever knew him, worked for him, or had any kind of relationship with him thought he had even a hint of violence in him. Whereas Sinead had a lot of mental health issues. She accused Arsenio Hall of drug supplying and only retracted when he threatened to sue her.

@@sputukgmail No evidence of what you recall re: neighbours. You’re obviously unfamiliar with Paisley Park and its surroundings. There weren’t neighbours as we would understand it.
Also, what the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard case taught us is that you need evidence for an accusation and not to assume man = bad/ woman = good. Sinead O’Connor made many claims about people but never had anything to back it up. Nobody who knew him thought Prince was capable of such behaviour, least of all the two women he married. You obviously know nothing about Prince or his life. You’re spreading smears about someone who isn’t here to defend himself.

It always amazes me when people take Prince for granted. Dude was bonefide. Purple Rain is about God, communion with God and his prayer for a lost love who was real. It has nothing to do with the end of the world, That was 1999. Per, Prince.

As soon as someone says “I had no idea Prince could play guitar”… I already know they have zero music intelligence, and I tune them out. So, Less than 2 minutes in, and I’m leaving this video.

Oh wow, god help someone who's never listened to prince eh?
How about this..... Instead of being offended and disappointed, how about you try to guide someone who hasn't listened to a song before instead of shitting on them? .......
I think the ignorance is on your side, you should try to be better.
