Just... Wow. The early concepts in A Hat in Time's story were so interesting. Its story was longer and more logical, had much more detail and depth... Rather than only cute or funny, it had seriousness to it. It's disappointing that we never got to see that approach to the game's universe, as having an actual compelling and serious story like this would do wonders considering how much potential the game's settings have. What we got in the final version instead was a silly, cutesy game with a simple story - that isn't bad itself by any means, at most one could say some parts felt incomplete/plain or rushed, though I'd have loved to see a fuller, more complex story that goes deeper on each character and location, one that not only explains the origins before the beginning of the main story but also humanizes the characters, taking a more serious setting by making the characters more complex, having their own motivations and struggles. Just seeing these animatics is very investing. I wish there was so much as a completed draft of the fuller story, even if only written. Amazing work.
IT'S THEM! AAAAH! Shane, this looks absolutely INCREDIBLE. I'm so invested in this story, and the cinematography in this particular piece is AMAZING! Action sequences are super difficult to compose, yet you've mastered it here! I'm always impressed by your work, and I can't wait to see what's next!
yeeeeee shapeshifter tiiiiiiiiiiime~ they're so goopy! I have disagreements with myself all the time, but they're usually more like "I really should go to bed." "no :)"
Oh man! This is AMAZING! I never thought the Shapeshifter could have such a scary introduction. I don't quite understand what they're talking about. I guess we'll find out in the near future. I remember meeting the Shapeshifter in a mod where they were a lot friendlier and lead Hat Kid through a few cute puzzles before asking her to take them with, so they transformed into a time-piece. Super cute!
I know a different mod (And it's sequel or whatever it's called) with shape shifters.. I don't want to spoil much on it but failboat (If you know that RUclipsr) had played it a couple years ago? Oh yeah, It's called hat kid steals the declaration of independence!
@@MyStickWorld I'm hitting myself over the head because just looking at Shapeshifter's design makes it incredibly obvious that they're a shadow but the thought literally never occurred to me once
i can't stop watching this. i'm a little lost on the series right now, but god, this is so cool and the fight scene is veryy well choreographed. its nice to see new hat stuff, especially something as unique as this. love the goopy shapeshifter kid especially! i cant wait for more :D
Shane, I've been meaning to ask, but I'm A little curious on the concept of time travelers shadows. I've dug and come to the conclusion they're formed from three circumstances that were rather vague, but then I got thinking; do these shadows persist after the death of the original creature? Tim the CEO of time is older, so if he died, would his friend still be helping along as an incomplete whole? And my other one is about the shadows mentioned to be in the horizon with Moonjumper during some concept art I dug up. Beta lore is so intense and unique. sorry if these are a lot XD
Hey there dear. To answer your question, the shadows do persist, yes. The Snatcher is a prime example, being the shadow of a time traveler beyond that planet. The shadows will always outlive the traveler as they are fragments of them embedded in a damaged time line.
@@MyStickWorld Thanks for clearing that up :) This is a really interesting... Everything. (Imma stop asking questions now before I overwhelm you with like a billion of em-)
@@LumaedraHey you're all fine. There were a lot of wild and crazy idea's I tried to throw out there with the project that didn't make it. Heck, the literal first idea I presented for the Subcon was that an ancient, abandoned alien bird fell from the cosmos to that place, and a forest grew from where it fell. So it became cursed where all things lost and abandoned eventually wind up in that world. Like I said, crazy stuff hehe.
@@MyStickWorld Not crazy, this stuff is possibly the most unique lore in all existence- Its been what I've obsessed over for almost a year now. I always look close to see new chances to learn snippets of every small thing hidden in the corners and neglected by most because your ideas rival everything in the fantasy genre I've seen. (If I'm okay to ask a few more questions, how is the relation between the Prince and Moonjumper? I heard it was confirmed the Prince was Moonjumper, but then I also see Moonjumper possessing poor Neth. The shadows that locked the Cold thing behind the moon seemed to lock the Prince, yet somehow the Cold thing was there as well. Did the Prince function as an anchor to get the Cold Thing free? Or was he transferring his consciousness?)
@@LumaedraBless you for your generous and kind words. The "prince" was actually the painter, Neth. One of the paintings in the manor was requested by Vanessa in which showed Neth beside her wearing a crown, as she referred to him as her prince. The "cold presence" comes from a book buried upon the property after it was burned down, one of multiple objects left throughout time which are gateways to the being at the end of time, the one who dreams in darkness, whose nightmares flow through these objects. It slowly influenced and possessed Vanessa's mother, feeding off her love, then possessed Vanessa, then used her to posses Neth. I had a running concept that thoughts and creative energy can affect and distort time, allowing the presence to further become a part of that timeline by manipulating that energy from the painter as well the energy of the original hourglass broken in the Subcon long ago. The moon jumper fully engulfed Neth and was banished behind the moon in a separate dimension by the shadows (including Tim's shadow) who set things up for Hat Kid to finish. If you google "Shane Frost Subcon" it should pull up a tumblr page that links to all the comic shorts and videos I worked on!
Why is this so... cool? A Hat in Time is a "cute as heck game," but this would make the game a "cool as heck game." Shame that a lot of these awesome ideas got scrapped.
This is awesome; were these ideas you had when you worked on the game? Or just something you've recently came up with? Either way I love this little series you got going on.
There were a lot of idea's at different times as it developed. This was based off a few early idea's I mused on, both that were suggested and eventually fell through, or were kept to myself after the fall through. Though it has been a while, I hope to lay out some of these idea's finally in the limited means I can. Thanks for checking it out! :)

Hat in Time and Horror go together like PB and J
Cute and random has questionability, horror and shock also has questionability... Sandwich it between animation💕

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS ON MY BIRTHDAY

At first I was concerned that the melting shapeshifter was white, but then it come out of the wall and I realized it was just wall plaster

seeing these videos makes me think what the original story would be for a hat in time.
This is a really cool story. Also, I like how the music goes along with this.
Seven words:
Hat kid steals the declaration of independence
omg thats a cool story :0 owo
Is that Delirium?? The popular final boss from the popular game, the Binding of Isaac, an rougelike game created by Edmund Mcmillen???
Hmmmmm, Something ain't right.
Hat kid vs. delirium be like:
