  • In this video, you'll learn how to create routing in an assembly using SOLIDWORKS.
The Routing application is an add-in for SOLIDWORKS Premium that allows you to create specialized subassemblies for paths of pipes, tubes, electrical cables, or ducts between components.
When you insert certain components into an assembly, a route subassembly is automatically generated. Unlike other subassemblies, you don’t create a route assembly in a separate window and then insert it into the higher-level assembly.
A route subassembly consists of three main components:
Components: These are fittings and connectors such as flanges, tees, electrical connectors, and clips.
Route Parts: These include pipes, tubes, wires, cables, and ducts.
Route Feature: This includes a 3D sketch representing the centerline of the route path.
SOLIDWORKS Routing allows you to create several types of routes, including:
    - Piping
    - Flexible Tubing
    - Electrical: Including cable and wire, cable trays, ducting, and Trunking
    - Electrical Conduit
    - Ribbon Cables and Flex Cables
    - User Defined: For rectangular and circular cross-sections
Routes can be categorized into various types such as electrical wiring enclosures, fabricated cable, soldered copper, PVC, flexible tubing, welded piping, and their associated fittings. The user-defined route type enables you to create rectangular and round HVAC ducts, conveyors, and chutes, while the electrical route type supports the creation of ducting, trunking, cable trays, and cable and wire routes.
