Straight forward video, subscribed. It's disappointing to find out the CPU can't be upgraded. I wouldn't see much utility in upgrading Ram, GPU & Hard drive for it all to inevitably bottle neck at the processor. It's a shame, I was hoping to be able to upgrade. I can get a few of these for $50 a pop. I'd imagine they'd run Linux pretty well as is. Low on power with a laptop charger haha. That is actually quite appealing to me, ideal for solar.
Cheers, glad this has helped you.
if you can get free or cheap parts then it might be worth doing it to get it as a simple web browsing tower
otherwise they aren't too good
Bought it 3 years ago, as I was looking for something cheap with a CD ROM. It's very slow indeed and HDD is noisy. Last month, added another 8GB stick and replaced 1TB HDD with a Crucial MX250, installed ESXi 7.02, had to buy HP 1GB 2P 361T NIC(for ESXi). Runs 4 Linux machines smoothly + pfsense. Will use 361T in new built to run VMs, as 310s 08asr is low on power consumption, thinking of using it as a dedicated firewall with a cheap NIC.
Good to hear you had a decent use for this model
would this work as a NAS, if upgraded to 8gb ram? and of course big tb hard drives?
Don't see why not
Did you say that the mounted CPU cannot be upgraded? Can an ITX motherboard fit in the case? Got a hold of a similar model (& an HP slimline pavilion) Lenovo a couple days ago. Thank you
correct, also case would probably be useless for another motherboard to go in, due to the motherboard cutout at the back
@@rickstechrepairs I watched a couple other videos that did a HDD to SSD swap. I think the m / b is made for the case. An ITX m/b may fit but in order for it to be correctly supported, some modifications would have to be made. Thank you 🤓
this heaped me pull parted my pc and take out part's to use as place holders for now
Good to hear it has helped
Have this and hoping to find a decent way to upgrade the graphics card. Honestly, I don't need any expensive or brand new, just a better version than the original one so It can run more modern games better.
Not like I want it to run Crysis or anything, just a more stable and less lowered looking games. Would be nice to place Necrovision and Iron Harvest with decent framerate and detail.
you might be able to get something like a RX6400 or a GTX1650 (low Profile Versions)
@@rickstechrepairs Yeah, something small will suit my pc just fine.
@@rickstechrepairs Looks like I'll have to buy secondhand. Can't find a good seller anywhere.
@@rickstechrepairs The GTX 1650 seems the best case for me. Had a look, might be able to get one second hand.
Isn't it better to get 2 4gb sticks instead of 1 8gb??? Also can it take more that just 8gbs???
on a budget i would simple add another stick thats the same size (so 2*4gb)
It doesnt have psu? Or uses that portable laptop adapter?
Laptop power adapter
Will a atx motherboard fit
nope , custom case and I/O Cutouts
2:17
that be 8GB DDR4 2400mhz
sadly, the Single-Channel-RAM-Controller does not support Dual-Channel
Damn
The company that owned the one I found the other day, took and made the HDD unusable by drilling a screw into it! A 500GB Seagate! 😡😠 Is the system a 64-bit? What is the max RAM it can support? I get the impression that the GPU is sort of as no-name or Lenovo made card. Thank you 🤓
I'm a bit late to this comment but yeah, it's 64-bit, supports up to 16GB of DDR4 and they are usually integrated graphics but some models have a GT 730 GPU.
@@gt8200-0 I haven't looked into the unit close, so not sure if it has a GPU card or the graphics chip. Thank you 🤓
@@j.lietka9406 No problem :)
So that's why my computer is so shitty the graphic card was not in it
very low spec machine
