They were always a good unit this change doesn't make or break them. I do wish they countered cav as intended instead of almost as intended. I had a game last night with them they killed 76 units and 2 heroes. So one thing to keep in mind about your test against the Yanyudao is two things. 1. The yanyudao are moving freely through large open ground and using multiple abilities and movement to their advantage. (CAVALRY HOME TEAM ADVANTAGE YOU COULD SAY). 2. You only sat in brace and never moved or used other abilities. Once the cav hits your initial brace you can use 2 to get in some damage on the lingering cav that are slowed by the SWAMP passive. it also will give your modao some increased defenses. Then you brace again more clumped up and get the bonus again from hitting a second time with brace. Then you use 2 again. Then when the enemy cav is bunched up or weakened you use carnage to chase them down and finish off a few more. You have to cycle between the abilities with modao to get the full bonuses of the unit. That's what i have found. They are more unique and harder to use than Fortebraccio for example but can do more they are more versatile.
Getting cav into the Modao's blades has been the bane of my last week to complete the doctrine dash event XD They have a potential 3000 extra armour for completing defence and march moves but there is no UI indication of where they are at, much like the Reapers diminishing damage reduction %. Glad for the doctrine reset event to test out the stun not really doing anything so don't need to burn a epic selection box.
Thanks for testing the doctrines on them, now I know not to move the doctrines onto them. I find that I need to use modao march more often. Swapping between march and brace aside from doing a decent lunge dmg also clumps them up since they will rush towards a target. This also helps you land point blank carnage. The modao march and the brace both stack the armor buff so I find that rather than using them like a forte where you move them up and brace you want to modao march forward, brace, carnage then repeat. I still prefer forte but they are good in a blob push if you use them the way I described.
I highly recommend NOT to do yout last option with carnage. The get an armor increase of 100 for every hit they land with Brace or Modao-March up to +1500. But Carnage resets this armor bonus. You basically only use carnage in your first encounter and then never again for the whole siege
These are the only thing that has a chance at stopping the new cav... I don't know how to play them so I'm here... Miss you muh dude. Hope you are well.
Started playing them on top line and was very unsatisfied how brittle they were. While low cooldown carnage sounds nice, it does not do much (low dmg and it seems like the moment few models collide with the enemy, the entire unit makes a swing regardless if there are any enemies infrnt of them, leading to the skill often missing its target). Switching to bottom line and utilising their brace more it actually far more efficient
I remember an old clip of them doing 10k damage to a hero. They really need that anti charge because now onna musha and cav can kinda just walk through them
Personally i dont like them, madao i mean. Their playstyle is not really fit into my own style of play. I would rather pick shieldmaidens, reapers or orochi over them all day every day. And i had way more success against cav with forte and orochi this last couple of days, even tough i was using madao in every 2-3 sieges i played, just to test them and get a good feel of them. Great video as always. Keep up the good work mate.
The Yolo cal top lane is Ignore all type Reductions on enemy unit, even if modao have top or bottom lane still get over run by it. only Fortebillo Pike have slightly chance to win over Yolo Cal.
Agreed on the brace infantry, the numbers they were bringing up was pathetic, I use sommander mastery to test infantry units as its the same map everytime
I'm testing Modao with top line too, and it's not worth it. The dmg is obviously high, but they don't last enough to be worth it. I recomend you a mixed vet line: top until you get 1 ranged dmg reduction node, rest on bot
Hi plum! I dont know if you changed lines because of me but now after the buff you should go for the bottom line. If you also put tanky doctrines on them to the are insanely tanky. Test it sometime!
I have the same experience with the stun brace doctrine, it's not working for some reason maybe because Modao have short polearm so only 3-4 unit hit at the same time while Forti can actually stun unit longer because it is the whole group attack at once so it's not worth putting the doctrine on Modao. And also Plumsion what is the effect of the other Modao doctrine, there are 2 modao's doctrine, one you use in the video and another one but idk what it do
@@PlumsionModao has a trait similar to "Swamp" but without the +26% extra dmg dealt to cav. It only slow down cav movement speed for 1 second, and that doctrine makes it last 2 seconds
@@Roctech44 thank man, but that slow never work anyway cav either die when they touch my modao or they just run through my modao while my modao don't do anything to them, like not a single tick of damage.
Please do a Monastic cav video like you said. I find them really hard to play due to them being slow, stupid, and needing a big space to charge. I find I get better results with my green cav lol.
I'd be interested in the Monastics rundown.. how do they compare vs yolo, hussars, Chevys, Liao's, and cataphracts now. Thank you for your content, only current source for CB!
Are Yolo Cav slashing damage mainly? I was thinking of putting slashing defence on my madao. Also why were you planning to put on blunt defence? I was planning initially to do this, my housemates are all sayinf piercing defence is best bit i dont agree with this in the current state of the meta.
Yeah yolo cav is slashing damage. I but blunt defence on them because it was their lowest defence stat, plus with the amount of mauls running about it seemed like a good idea.
@@Plumsion Yes also Madao have that passive that stack piercing and slashing defence. In Liao Meta they were almost unuseable because Liaso would just Bludgeon them to death!

The stun doctrine doesn't seem to be working since their jabs should be also stunning.
