Today is the 4th of July in the US and a few days ago it was Canada Day. If you don't already know, unmarked graves were recently found at multiple residential schools in Canada. The last of these residential schools was closed in 1996. It's important not to forget the history and present reality of the US and Canada, and the people and communities that continue to be oppressed in both.

Hello all! Quick thing with this video: firstly I want to make it clear that in no way am I saying 100% that any character is canonically any identity - as far as I'm aware the creator of Nozaki has never stated that Nozaki was ace, aro, or aspec in any sense. Also, more importantly, I'm absolutely not saying any other interpretation of Nozaki as a character is wrong - I just happen to headcanon him as being on the aro/ace spectrum and I know many others do as well, which is why I made the video. I personally have multiple different interpretations of Nozaki, some of which even overlap, so I am all for any perspective on any character. I used the term "ace" in the title as an umbrella term based on how I refer to how I see the character - similar to how I used "bi" in my other Nozaki video (you can also look at my pinned comment on that video to get a more detailed explanation for my perspective on that).
TLDR - Any interpretation of any character is great and up to each individual person to interpret for themselves! :D

I mean, the entire premise of the show is a girl trying to get with him, it’d be pretty odd if the love interest had no chance of being into her unless that was made clear from the start.
this show is such a comfort show for me because every character gives off such heavy chaotic bisexual vibes, and then there's nozaki who gives off chaotic aroace vibes

I feel like Chiyo is the token heterosexual + neurotypical character in the show. I read Kashima as nonbinary, and I don't think Chiyo expresses attraction for anyone other than Kashima and Nozaki?

I love that Nozaki writes a popular romance manga even though he himself shows no interest in romance. Just goes to show that you don't NEED to be into sex or romance yourself to write these stories well.
Some of the best written romance stories I’ve come across were written by people who were Aro/Ace!

@@moonrat1955 I also think a lot of allo romance writers tend to get very distracted by sex / sexual chemistry and end up making decisions in the plot that don't make sense/ aren't very emotionally compelling. Or don't give the relationship enough time to grow.
Like I swear one of the reasons there are so many romances with mean agressive MC's is because it's a turn on for some people. I feel like ace/aro writes usually stay more away from the toxic relationship stuff, probably because it only makes sense if you're attracted to that dynamic for some reason.

I'm an ace artist/writer and I found Nozaki's hyper fixation on relating everything to storytelling/art extremely relatable. While I can also see him as Aro, it would be cool if he ended up with Chiyo, I think they'd work so well together as a couple. I can see him as demiromantic, which ironically is also something that might apply to me (still figuring that out).
I kind of hope she gets over him for I see no hope in them becomeing a couple and probably would hate how it would be done. They are cute togeather, but not more than he is with his other friends.

honestly, stuff like this is always so refreshing. I get so tired of things always being romantic or having to have some sexual undertones. I mean, there's nothing wrong with romance stories or whatever, but it's just so tiring to see it all the time for no other reason other than "cause shows are supposed to have romance in them". Usually when romance isn't the core focus and drive of the story, the romantic parts are the weakest part of the show!

The whole thing with the sailor uniform, telling Chiyo she probably should remove her drenched uniform, the bishoujo figure or how he asks to be present for Mikorin nude modeing show that he is compleatly unaware of that too. so aro ace makes the most sense

MGNK is one of those shows I never found any queer subtext until I watched the dub. The subtitled version definitely played it "straight" for lack of a better term but once you watched it dubbed, a lot more things click in your mind like how Nozaki and Mikorin wrote a doujinshi about the protagonist and Tomoda because he wanted Tomoda to be happy.
It's one of the more prominent examples of queercoding (along with Kashima's androgynous appearance throughout the show) and it definitely could have been a localization effort moreso a translation thing. Either way, it's definitely there and I wouldn't want to change it for the world.
As an ace person most of my friends are pan or bi. This show represents that so well.
I relate to so much of this. Especially the 'use sexy figures for drawing references' bit. I have so much questionable stuff in my references folder and feel nothing for any of it.

I'm not dissing your head cannon of Nozaki at all, it's totally valid of course (more valid than mine really)! I personally never thought of nozaki as ace but that's probably because as a fellow writer I kinda projected parts of myself onto him so I just imagined him as totally socially awkward and he never really registers how others feel about him. I also probably just want that to be true because of the way it ended though

@@arianewinter4266 I'm pretty sure whoever wrote the manga of this did not have their goal to make him a "Ace icon", there goal was to break the cliche, "girl meets boy, boy falls in love with girl" by making Nozaki hard to get, if he really was ace and the writer was planning that then he probably would of told her
