    Thinking about every Dallas loss this postseason.
    clippers: clips shot 60% from three and made WILD contested shots the whole game. Didn’t do that again for the rest of the series. Anomaly. The other loss, Clips started crazy hot from 3 like game 1 making an absurd amount of 3s but blew a 33 point lead and Dallas almost completed the largest comeback in playoffs history if PG didn’t hit a contested fadeaway 3 from behind the backboard.
    Thunder: first loss, Thunder legit beat the breaks off Dallas in the second half and made more threes in that half than they did for the rest of the series in a single half. Anomaly. Second loss: Dallas lost a nail biter but had their worst free throw shooting game of the season. Luka missed a game tying free throw with seconds on the clock. Anomaly.
    Wolves: Dallas lost another nail biter, but were without arguably their third best player who played a huge role in equalizing the effect of Minnesotas size advantage. He also didn’t miss a single shot the whole series. Got him back the next game and blew them out.
    Why write all of this? It’s taken anomalies to beat Dallas this playoff run. No team has just played a regular game or overcame an off night to beat them. They’ve had to fire on all cylinders to get a single W. On the flip side, Luka had his worst two playoff series EVER the first two rounds. Dallas won games where the opponent made 12 more 3’s than them and they shot 23%. They won games where they were out rebounded, shot less free throws and a lower percentage. They didn’t need huge games to win, they just won. The best part… they weren’t even favored. I’ve got Dallas beating Boston in 5 and shocking the world. The team is special.

    • @theSUBVERSIVE
      @theSUBVERSIVE 24 дня назад

      It's not just the anomalies, Luka for the first 10 games was a very different Luka than the last 7 games.
      (10 games)27/10/9 with 40/26/78 splits
      (7 games) 31/10/10 with 47/44/87 splits
      This means he got healthier by the end of the OKC series and the way almost every analyst talked about the Mavs, they wouldn't have a shot against the Wolves, nonetheless, they were a Lively injury away from being swept. That also means that a Clippers and OKC series would have been considerably different had Luka been closer in health as he is now and, for sure, the optics would have been different as well.
      The thing for Boston is that they can really get hot but sometimes to their own detriment, they fall in love with jumpers and they stop attacking the rim. But they might keep doing it even when shots are not falling. Tatum is not shooting that well but at the same time, guys that were shooting well BEFORE the Mavs had a different experience with the Mavs defense. Even guys like Reid who started scorching hot eventually cooled off. I'm not sure if the Celtics can keep having hot shooting after hot shooting and the Mavs even won a 12x 3s shooting deficit against the Wolves. KAT was playing very well BEFORE the Mavs, is that just a coincidence or is there more to it than people think? I mean, Ant only played well once Lively was out.
      What I don't get is, were the Celtics just playing with the Pacers? The Mavs won't commit the same type of TO late in the game like the Pacers did and lose games that were already won. Had the Pacers played like a more experienced team, the series could have been tied 2-2 even without Haliburton. Sure, similar thing could be said about some Mavs games but overall it was less about silly out-of-bounds TO rather than the Mavs were much better executing plays in the clutch. It's hard to measure the Celtics properly because of the competition they faced and all the injuries but they didn't assert the domination I expected from them, but maybe it was just them playing up to the competition.
      I don't know, Luka seems to possess that MJ thing that when you have him on the team - and finally with a decent roster - he won't let the team lose. It's a contagious feeling that role players feed off of it, it takes away part of the pressure and on the other hand, it makes opponents traumatized. It's the soul crushing feeling that Minnesota experienced in that 1Q or the Suns in 2022. Mavs were the underdogs every step of the way, aside from maybe Legler and Chris Vernon, everybody else picked the opponents over the Mavs and the Finals are no different.
      What I find fascinating is how before the Playoffs the Nuggets were favored against the Celtics. But once the Wolves beat the champions, they became the favorites and that the Celtics wouldn't be able to breath with the #1 defense but then when the Mavs made that same defense look just ok, people went back to the Celtics as the favorites. In some polls, you might see the Mavs winning but it's much more due to Celtics hate than actually picking the Mavs to win. Lots of people say "my heart says Mavs but my brain says Celtics".
      I think A LOT of people are still underestimating Dallas and I feel like if they win, most of them might say that it was because KP wasn't healthy rather than give the Mavs the credit. I'm very curious about game 1. I also think that Mavs in 5 is very much possible, I don't know, I don't see this going 7.
