0:19 Can we just appreciate how good this CG shot still looks for a film made 17 years ago? It may not be completely convincing as Hugo Weaving but the textures are still palpable and he feels like he's actually there, to me at least. Great sound design also!
it's definitely a combination of a digilat liveshot and computer animation. You can read how they made it in the book "software studies", by Lev Manovich.
playing this slow mo in slow mo .25 makes the water on smiths face look like it should stay were it was as the face goes to the left. see how neo punches the water drops the water stays were it was as his fist keep traveling to the left. anyway just a small thing i noticed it doesnt take away from the awesomeness
When CG Neo punched CG Smith I lost my mind for the first time. Watching it back now... I can't believe the studio let the wachowski's do this. They must have had so much freedom.
super epic just the idea of it the force the slo mo nobody was topping the matrix since it dropped in 99' then other movies tried to capture its art of effects 😂! yaw can't top the original! Every superhero show/movie etc tries to copy ✋ #fansince99
Good animation but bad physics of motion, the jaw of mr smith must remain iqual to the instant of the contact, but it's move in the opposite direction, this is not realistic by the inercia effect and the impact's velocity.
I think it's right tho, I'm no science dude and stuff but at the first few frames you can see how the jaw moves towards the correct direction it's supposed to however it then bounces to the left which is correct after I saw a bit of slow mo face punch vid in the internet
@@knightfallprotocol Or...it's good CGI because of how I justified it. As long as it doesn't break your immersion of the world and scene it's serving, it's fine. Some movies/shows succeed with this. Some don't. The Matrix movies and this scene in particular through its execution, succeeds . No two ways about it.
@@cuccamunga Agent Smith literally looks like a PS3 gummy person during this moment so..yeah..it DOES break my immersion and take me out of the world. Good CGI does not have you thinking "This looks fake as fuck" the whole time. 🤦🏿♂️

I'm not sure Smith's face is full cgi
The only painful part in the whole film! That is not Neo either! :(
It looks like a videogame compared to now but it was still amazing for 2003
This is the best face punch is cinema's history.
It's crazy
The best slow-mo punch scene ever :)
I couldn't agree more.
If Neo ever got into Mortal Kombat, this would have to be his first fatality
Fuck... Compared to resurrections this is a masterpiece.
This was a masterpiece before resurrections
Interestingly, Resurrections was intentionally shit
I was thinking through this whole thing of when Morpheus said "they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be"
Unless they're the other half of you

Looks like Neo killed his ass lol! I thought Smith was done when I first saw this part.
Will smith punching Chris Rock! 😂😂😂
they've used universal capture. 5 digital hd cameras have been put arround neo and smith to reconstruct the body of the actors as a visual rolemodel

This is the most on-the-nose Jojo reference I've ever seen in a movie
Wait is it actually a Jojo reference?
This is not a reference to Jojo
Maybe it is, maybe not
0:19 Perfect album cover for Pantera.

Yeah. I don’t even like this movie that much but this kind of action is something you just don’t see in studio action films these days.

Dude this movie came out in 2003
This is what we want to do to that one guy in our daily lives that we hate so much
For me is my PE teacher xD
Animation ! .. but cool :D
I would make fun of the fact that they made the rain drops elongated when that's not how rain actually works, but then again, they ARE in a simulation
WHY DONT THEY MAKE MOVIES LIKE THIS ?
@OreoMan951 click HD .. and stop at 0:19
Where can I get the theme that plays during the punch?
C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!!
Raindrops are not long like in this.
Kratos punches Thor.
EA Fight Night
the only thing wrong about this is that rain dont like like that XD, its just a sphere
Yeah Know how, Kratos Punched Thor in the Face…
Was inspired?
“Results This!”
watch this on 0.25 speed ^^ niice
why in sonic mania adventures in the parts of the fights when he hits him they put slow motion like matrix like this
eyes should have closed instantly
Giorno vs Bucciarati
Gorudo Ekusuperiensu!!!
honestly, the wachowskys are big fans of anime, and part 5 came out even before the first matrix
it could actually be a reference
Neo vs. Agent smith
POV: You're Chris Rock
Pwned Lmao!
@Spartan117SM yeah uh.. i still suspect that it's real.
the raindrops in this clip always bothered me. aren't they supposed to look like spheres/beads in slow motion?
Maybe matrix programmers dont care about slow motion physics?
Giorno Giovanna
No, drops change their shape when falling really fast
and smith down
😆
ah shit!
@pauls240
My name is Neo!

I love how people try to apply science to a movie about a simulated world where rules in physics can be broken.
@@cuccamunga bad cgi is bad cgi no matter what you use to justify it.

@Spartan117SM no i think he really did get punched in the face. if it was an animation, smith wouldn't have taken it like a man in real life.
This looks like a movie.
it is a movie
hahahaha lol smith has chubby cheeks
slowed down rain drops shouldn't look like sticks. they are round like little balls.
Have you ever seen one slowed down. Thats what they look like
Quensel Lawrence sure, just look for slow mo rain videos on RUclips for example. they look like drops as I already said.
ITS In the matrix. they have a realistic version of the rain textures from Minecraft
